Festival To Feature Acoustic Music, Children’s Games By Dayna M. Reidenouer

2007 Penn Manor High School graduate Matt “Hutch” Hutchinson will be the featured entertainer at the annual festival hosted by the Conestoga Volunteer Fire Company, 3290 Main St., Conestoga, on Saturday, June 29. The kitchen will open at 4 p.m., and the music and games will start at 5 p.m. Hutchinson plans to sing classic rock and country music while accompanying himself on his acoustic guitar. His repertoire includes pieces made famous by Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, Bill Withers, and the Marshall Tucker Band. Hutchinson grew up in Washington Boro and now lives in Conestoga. “It makes me feel proud (to perform at the festival),” Hutchinson remarked. “I’m honored to give something back to my community.” The festival is a crucial part of the fire company’s operating budget.

“(Festivals) used to be our main source of income,” said a fire company member who declined to provide his name. The man recalled a time when the organization held three festivals a year. The events are labor-intensive, however, and volunteers are difficult to find, so the number of festivals has been cut back to one, president Troy Bresch said. This year’s festival will be a bit different from those of previous years. “We’ve changed it up: We have more children’s games than we had before,” Bresch related. In addition to the activities geared toward youngsters, the festival will include the traditional opportunities to win a wide variety of prizes. Folks may also win cash by playing bingo. The kitchen will sell burgers, hot dogs, pulled beef, macaroni and cheese, fries, chicken corn soup, ice cream, and beverages. See Conestoga Festival pg 3

“Ride it, push it, tow it - we’ll accept it,” said Lancaster County Cruisers member Gary Heim of Willow Street, inviting owners of cars, trucks, and motorcycles to enter the club’s 20th annual car show on Saturday, July 6. In addition to no requirement for the vehicle to be operational, there are no rules regarding age, make, or model.

“Bring anything; we don’t discriminate,” said club vice president Jack Parke of New Providence. “We get some cool hot rods and rat rods,” club member Barry Harsh of Mountville commented. “Even some barn finds,” Parke added. Club member Don Teeter of Willow Street is the proud owner of an antique 1983 Honda Accord SE. It might be surreal to think of vehicles from the 1980s See Car Show pg 5

Moon Jung Kang from Ilsan, South Korea, performed a royal court dance in a brightly colored hanbok at Eastern Mennonite Missions’ 2018 Global Fair in Willow Street. This year’s event will be held on July 13.
