Honoring Fallen EMS Heroes BY COURTNEY MENGEL
To kick off National EMS Week, Lancaster EMS hosted “A Celebration of Life Remembered Dedication Ceremony” for staff and family members at the EMS Millersville Station, 100 E. Charlotte St., Millersville, on May 17. Heritage Monuments and Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home donated a granite monument including personalized photo and name remembrances of seven fallen EMS heroes from Lancaster County. Those remembered are Kathy
Wiley (1953-2011), Polly Oakes (1965-2014), Craig Hohman (19562013), Larry Joe (1951-2014), Bob Thompson (1955-2014), Bob Hinkle (1954-2015) and Bobbie Stewart (1933-2017). Previously, there were individual bricks engraved with the names and birth and death dates of the seven individuals. Marisa Seubert, director of marketing and development at Lancaster EMS, contacted Heritage Monuments and Charles F. Snyder Funeral Home last year. “The memorial garden needed a refresh and a more personal touch,” See Lancaster EMS pg 4

general psychology. While enrolled, she plans to join the university’s bowling team. In an interview with the Advertiser, Delaney reflected on her time as a senior. Advertiser: What was the most challenging part of your senior year? Delaney: I think the most challenging part of being a senior this year was changing from being hybrid, then all virtual, then all in person, then all virtual, hybrid again, and finally all back. It was just a lot to be changing from one type to another. I think the other most challenging part was accepting that this year was not going to be anything that we all imagined our senior year would be.

Advertiser: How did you get through it? Delaney: I was very fortunate to have amazing teachers this year, which helped me get through the year. All my teachers were very open with communication and understanding when all the changes of this year happened. They were so considerate and caring for the situation that was thrown at us this year. They always tried to make this year the best it could be. I also had a few core friends that got me through this year, and I love them for it. Advertiser: Are there any moments you think you will remember for the rest of your life?
Before Project Lifesaver came to Lancaster County on Oct. 20, 2012, an elderly man wandered from his home during the winter. Much effort was put into finding him, but he was not located until a day or two later. He had passed away 250 feet behind his home. “If he would have had a working wristband from Project Lifesaver, we more than likely would have
