“Catch The Spirit” At Summer Music Camp BY MARCELLA PEYRE-FERRY
Grace Community Church of Willow Street will offer a summer music camp as part of its Outpour Kids program. The weeklong camp, set for Monday, July 18, through Friday, July 22, from 9 a.m. to 1:45 p.m., will serve children entering first through eighth grades.
Children of all experience and ability levels are welcome. “It’s kind of like secular musical theater camp meets VBS (vacation Bible school),” said Katie Wieand, director of Outpour Kids and the children’s music ministry and administrative coordinator for Grace Community Church. “We’re able to help all of them at their different levels grow in their abilities.” See Summer Music Camp pg 2

Spring Concert To Benefit The Cottage BY FRANCINE FULTON
he community is invited to enjoy an evening of music while supporting a good cause. A spring concert is being offered by The Cottage, a nonprofit organization that supports women in crisis with dependent children as they search for permanent housing. The concert will be held indoors on Friday, May 20, at the Hope Campus of Millersville Community Church, 242 Bender Road, Millersville. Food trucks, including

Soulfully Famous, will be on-site from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. for people to purchase dinner before the concert, which will run from 7 to 10:30 p.m. There will be ample free parking, and the venue is wheelchair-accessible. Featured musicians will be church member Jay Eddie, a soloist performing country and gospel music; Grace Notes. a praise band from Wayside Presbyterian Church in Landisville; and Blues on the Loose, which performs blues music from the early 20th century through today. The Cottage previously held a spring concert in 2019, but subsequent events were canceled due to the pandemic. “We had one fully planned and had to cancel in 2020. For this one, we have different (performers),” said Diane Duell, marketing chair and The Cottage cofounder. Admission will be free, but a freewill offering will be received. There will also be a brief program describing The Cottage ministry.
The summer camp will culminate in a musical performance.

The Conestoga Sharks swim team will compete in the Lancaster Summer Swim League this summer.
The Conestoga Sharks swim team dates to at least the 1970s. The goal of the team is to provide a balance between being competitive and enjoying the sport. The goal is for every member to have an opportunity to improve his or her swimming skills and achieve success at his or her level of ability, from novice to elite competitor. In addition, there is a focus on instilling team camaraderie and a love of the sport.
Run Valley Exteriors, a team sponsor, is holding an aluminum can drive to benefit the Sharks. Community members may drop off aluminum cans at the Conestoga Community Pool, 49 Kendig Road, Conestoga, from 8 to 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, or at Full Circle Recycling, 965 Lancaster Pike, Quarryville, between now and June 4. Comets Win Three Straight, Now 9-6 Overall
Playing four games over six days, the girls’ lacrosse team improved to 9-6 overall. Their hectic schedule began with a 7-5 loss to Warwick on Friday, April 29. In a competitive first half, the Comets entered intermission with a 4-3 lead but couldn’t hold off the Warriors, who sit one win ahead of them in the section standings, after the break. Warwick exploded with four goals, held the Comets to one and escaped Millersville with the victory. Keegan Dings tied Warwick’s Maya Shirk with a game-high three goals. Erin Shipley, Mia Jones and Jarliah Ferko also scored for the Comets. Saturday morning the Comets bounced back with a 19-8 mercy rule victory over visiting Conrad Weiser. Manor scored three goals in the first minute and never looked back.

“Stamp Out Hunger” Food Drive Planned The Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is timed to resupply local food pantries when they are usually depleted and entering the summer with low supplies. The annual event has collected over 1.88 billion pounds of food nationally over the last 29 years.
Participating households are asked to place nonperishable food items in a bag either in or around their mailbox on the morning of May 14. All donations collected will be donated to local food pantries. Duell, along with Judy Schroeder, formed The Cottage Ministry of Millersville Community Church in 2017. Currently, the ministry is working with Good Samaritan Services (GSS), as well as social workers in the Penn Manor School District to identify families in need. Duell noted that the charity recently helped a local family struggling with homelessness. “They were staying in hotel rooms, which is still considered homeless, and not good for children who are trying to focus on their education,” said Duell. The Cottage volunteers found the family affordable housing and helped the mother find a job she could walk to since she did not have transportation. “We found them a house in Millersville to rent.
