Loft Community Partnership Moves Into Larger Facility
BY GEORGE DEIBEL

“We’re not just opening a building. We’re strengthening a community.”
Those were the words of Loft Community Partnership (LCP) board president Tom Keller during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 26 at the nonprofit group’s new home located at 100 E. Charlotte St., Millersville.
The Olcott Family Community Resource Facility, which will serve members of the Penn Manor community, hosted a soft opening for high-risk clients and families with children on April 2 and officially opened six days later.
“It’s our own building, so we have the keys, we open the doors,” LCP executive director Jenna Graeff said. “We bring people in

and welcome them in our own way, in our Loft way.”
Christening the new building is
the culmination of a journey and the start of discovering a world of potential. “The concept and the
theme is about the unlocking of doors, so the unlocking of possibilities and improving of access

Restaurant Unveils Name Change and New Menu
Elimar’s Bar & Grill, located at 2309 Columbia Ave., Lancaster, has been renamed Elimar’s Cantina and Taqueria, reflecting a new focus on regional Mexican cuisine inspired by the culinary traditions of Mexico. The restaurant is owned by the Ramirez family, which also operates two other restaurants in the Lancaster area.
Chef Gerardo Ramirez recently made the decision to transition away from the Italian and American fare previously served at Elimar’s and return to the bold flavors of his Mexican heritage. The updated menu features several signature dishes, including Jerry nachos topped with steak, chicken, and shrimp, as well as El Patrón tacos and birria tacos, and the signature Elimar burrito. The restaurant also offers a distinctive Mexican burger prepared with a blend of ingredients and seasonings that create a flavor profile unlike a traditional American burger.

The name change to Elimar’s Cantina and Taqueria reflects the restaurant’s renewed emphasis on authentic regional Mexican flavors and a vibrant dining

Jazz Ministers Big Band to Perform
Mountville Church of the Brethren, 60 Clay St., Mountville, will host a concert by the Jazz Ministers Big Band on Sunday,
April 26, at 2:30 p.m. Founded in 2000, the Jazz Ministers Big Band consists of 20 musicians who present a varied repertoire emphasizing hymns and gospel songs. The members perform in a variety of bands in the Lancaster area.

Fire Company Posts Activities
The Conestoga Volunteer Fire Company has posted its upcoming events, including its annual turkey supper on Saturday, April 25, from 3 to 6 p.m. or until sold out. Takeouts only will be available. Each meal will include roasted turkey, mashed potatoes with gravy, filling balls, glazed carrots, applesauce, a roll, dessert, and a drink.
All proceeds will go into the fire company’s annual operating fund, which helps to cover essential expenses such as maintenance, training, emergency supplies, fuel, and protective gear for the firefighters. The fund also supports the purchase of

new equipment. Most recently, the fire company acquired a new Kenworth T880/4-Guys Tanker, which carries 3,000 gallons of water.
The fire company will host an open house on Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free, and the event will include demonstrations, activities, and free food. The fire company is located at 3290 Main St., Conestoga.

In addition, the organization partners with the American Red Cross to offer free smoke alarms with free installation to all Conestoga Township residents. To obtain smoke alarms, call 717-584-5649 and leave a message, or fill out a form at the fire prevention table at any of the fire company’s events. A member of the installation team will reach out to set up an appointment. Nonresidents may obtain smoke alarms by calling the American Red
Cross at 833-315-0882 or visiting www.redcross. org/local/pennsylvania/ greater-pennsylvania.
The Conestoga Volunteer Fire Company is made up of approximately 25 men and women who are ready to respond to emergencies 24/7. The fire company responds to vehicle accidents, brush fires, house and building fires, search and rescue operations, river and swift water rescues, and more. The volunteers also spend many hours training to stay prepared.
New members are welcome to join, and opportunities include firefighting, administrative support, and maintenance. To apply, stop by the fire station any Monday after 7 p.m. All training is provided.
For more information about the fire company, search for “The Conestoga Volunteer Fire Company” at www.facebook.com.

to resources,” said Graeff. “One journey we’ve been on is having many different spaces, being in two different churches, in a Millersville University building, all different types of doors, all different types of access. Here, it will be about the doors are unlocked, we’re open to the growth and the possibilities that can happen here.”
After Graeff made some remarks at the beginning of the ribbon-cutting event, project manager Joy Olcott recognized volunteers, construction partners, and supporters who helped to make the group’s vision come to fruition. Community leaders
addressed the gathering, and then the building was named in honor of the Olcott family.
CCS Building Group began the project on Oct. 27. LCP started a capital campaign to pay for those improvements and has raised $1,427,000 of its $2 million goal.
“We need furniture in the multipurpose room,” said Joy Olcott, who is LCP’s development coordinator, project manager, and capital campaign chair. “We need to fit that out as well as the greenhouse needs to be fitted out, and we want to raise also the money to pay off our mortgage so that we can be debt free so that we can put then all the other contribu-
Ceremony to Honor Buchanan
The annual wreath-laying ceremony memorializing James Buchanan, 15th president of the United States, will be held on Saturday, April 25. It will begin at 10 a.m. at Woodward Hill Cemetery, 501 S. Queen St., Lancaster. Participants
will include Scout Troop 58 from Willow Street, the Fencibles, the Rev. Joel Petruschke from Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, and the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. For more information, call 717-615-5925.

tions toward the operations of the organization.”
For information about Loft Community Partnership’s capital campaign, operating hours, and food pantry, go to www.loftcp.org.
The renovated 10,000square-feet building is approximately three times the size of LCP’s previous location space in Jefferson Hall at 164 W. Cottage Ave.
“Having a building that’s much larger and has landing space for gathering and conversation and connection will be the biggest asset to being here,” Graeff said. “This is our perma -
nent location, and you’ll be able to find us here during normal business hours. We hope that we will be able to have more community programming and more events for people and neighbors. We hope to be able to host groups that want to rent space or use space, classes, and that kind of stuff will be here in the kitchen, and then the greenhouse. Just having a space that really fits for us is a miracle because of Millersville real estate not being that prolific, but we found the right place for us.”

experience for guests. The updated menu was put into place at the end of winter and is now available for customers.
Gerardo and his family became restaurant entrepreneurs after losing their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic. Gerardo had worked as a chef for 15 years at Leeds Ltd restaurant in Harrisburg, and he and his family had been talking about opening their own restaurant for years. So, they pooled their saved money, took out a loan, and purchased what had been a
vegetarian restaurant on Rohrerstown Road. The Tequila Mexican Grill & Bar was born, and it was a family affair involving Gerardo plus his parents, sister, brother-in-law, and girlfriend. In 2023, the family purchased a restaurant on Richmond Avenue in Manheim, and it became the second Tequila Mexican Grill & Bar. Two years later, they purchased Elimar’s on Columbia Avenue.

founders never could’ve imagined. But the company will always be linked to the New Holland area - its farming, its work ethic, its ingenuity.
“Here in Lancaster County, we see a lot of farms and a lot of farmers,” said Mark Lowery, the director of dealer development for CNH in North America. “Do people know our story? Certainly, people involved with agricultural production do. It goes back to, ‘Do you know where your food comes from?’ The broader population in Lancaster County might not know the story. But there’s been a long history of agricultural production here.”

It’s a story of innovation, mergers and acquisitions and small-town values playing well on a world stage.
The roots of CNH can be traced to a New Holland barn 131 years ago and a gentleman named Abe Zimmerman. Today, CNH, which is headquartered in Great Britain, operates 40 plants around the world; employs a total of 35,000 workers; and generates in excess of $20 billion in global revenue.

“CNH is a global brand, but a lot of people don’t know it was originally named after a town in eastern Lancaster County,” said Lowery. “We owe a lot to this local area and the innovations that made us a global brand.”
CNH still operates a location in its 6,000-resident hometown of New Holland, at 500 Diller Road. But thanks to advances in technology, the operation looks a lot different than it did a century ago.
CNH’s New Holland location is a 350-acre campus consisting of five buildings - an administration building, a technical center focusing on research,
development and design, a building for combine field testing, a technical training center and a home for CNH industrial capital. The local campus also operates a company farm at the site.
The New Holland location of CNH employs about 900 workers.
“I think one of the keys to the evolution is that our pace never slows down for research and development,” said Lowery, “and one of those research and development centers is here in New Holland. It’s about a lot of talented people and having them in the right places. It’s about investing in sites like New Holland and bringing in people who are passionate about the products.”
CNH manufactures offroad equipment for agriculture and construction, everything from tractors to harvesting equipment, from balers to sprayers, from utility vehicles to implements. Every product CNH makes is designed to maximize human energies.
“We have 11,000 patents registered for products that we invented or innovated,” said Lowery, a resident of Willow Street. “Engineering influences all the products we make.”
“As far as agriculture goes, the farmer and rancher are our primary customers,” continued Lowery. “They use our products to feed and make food. Certainly, the focus is, ‘How do we help people be more efficient?’ Farmers and ranchers have to continue to be more efficient. Our challenge is

to use technology to make machines that are more efficient and make people’s lives easier. We help farmers be more profitable.”
After Zimmerman’s initiatives were incorporated in 1903 as New Holland Machine Company, four Lancaster businessmen bought the company in 1940 and partnered with Ed Nolt, the inventor of a small square baler.
“The key innovation that made the site important was the square baler,” said Lowery. “That propelled New Holland as a company. It had immediate success and it had a global effect.”
During the 1990s, the New Holland enterprise became affiliated with both Ford and Fiat. In 1999, the company that is now CNH was created.
“To have a homegrown company - with local
people who have supported it - make a global impact is important to New Holland and Pennsylvania,” said Lowery. “For a lot of folks, from here and across Lancaster County, this company has been very important, and I think they want to see that success continue. There are so many people who have a connection, either people who worked here or whose parents worked here.”
The New Holland location of CNH operates a tour center and company store on site that caters to the curious. The center offers guided walking tours on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. and the company store is open from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on the same days.
