Spectacular To Inspire Wonder, Raise Funds By Dayna M. Reidenouer
“I like sparking wonder in the hearts and minds of our audiences. Wonder is the moment that takes your breath away, that moment when time seems to stand still and anything seems possible,” said illusionist Brett Myers. He and his wife, Labrina, will aim to provide many such moments when they perform as part of the 19th annual Comedy and Magic Spectacular that will be hosted by the Rotary Club of Lancaster South on Saturday, April 13, at 7 p.m. at Lampeter-Strasburg High School, 1600 Book Road, Lancaster. Brett grew up in Chambersburg and began learning illusions as a hobby when he was 14. He first performed for his parents and then for classmates and friends. As a high school senior, Brett began partnering with churches and other nonprofit organizations to use
illusions as a way to share a message of love and hope. By his mid-20s, Brett was performing full time, both in the United States and around the world. “We partnered with organizations like HOPE International to help raise funds to make poverty disappear,” Brett quipped. Labrina brings comedic talents and dynamic performing to the Myerses’ act, Brett said. Labrina grew up in Tennessee, and the couple met at a magic conference in Pigeon Forge, Tenn. Brett’s magic mentor, Duane Laflin, had hired Labrina to help him with his magic theater shows. When Brett arrived for the conference, Laflin’s wife, Mary, played matchmaker. Brett and Labrina balance a career and raising a family. The couple has been performing regularly, and for nine months in each of the past four years, they have performed their Magic & Wonder Show at a theater in See Magic Spectacular pg 5
