Designer Purse Fundraiser To Benefit Help The Fight magine having the opportunity to win a designer purse every day during the month of April. That is exactly the premise of a new fundraiser being planned by Help The Fight, a nonprofit organization that supports individuals living with breast cancer. As part of the designer purse giveaway, community members are invited to purchase a ticket, which will be entered into a random drawing. There will be 30 winners in the 30 days of April. In March of 2009, her sister was diagnosed with breast cancer. Soon after, the charity began. “Within weeks of our sister’s diagnosis, the assistant at our office was also diagnosed,” Charles recalled. “My husband, Dave, and I wanted to be able to help. We held a bake sale to help with their expenses. We raised over $9,000.” She said that in addition to the bake sale, the money was raised through sponsors and a sale of T-shirts.

During the pandemic and the subsequent changes to shopping, dining, and business practices, websites have been indispensable. “More and more during COVID, (the internet) becomes the place where transactions happen. (People are) placing orders and buying products (online),” explained marketing expert Adam Grim. “ Websites are the first impression for the business. In most cases these days, people are looking at your website before they’re willing to have a call with you or stop by your location.” Grim has worked in digital marketing in Lancaster County for nearly a decade. With a business partner, he built Sparrow Websites before recently shifting his focus from doing the design work to helping business owners develop content and opening Bootstrap Local.

To be held Saturday, March 13, from noon to 6 p.m., the event will feature live music, food trucks, small businesses, crafters and more in Froelich Park, 350 W. Main St., Mountville. “ We both have had very successful careers in sales and marketing before the pandemic,” Kalbach said. “We felt a calling after helping with the Mountville Carnival’s food truck event last year. We felt God was calling us to help support local businesses. We saw small businesses struggling to get set up online this past year, struggling with figuring out how to do curbside pickup or to-go options. We had the knowledge, and so we just sat down and created MJ Small Business Squad.”

The Lancaster County Conservation District (LCCD) anticipates granting two $1,000 scholarships to Lancaster County high school seniors in 2021. Applications will be accepted from students continuing their education in the 2021-22 school year with the intent of majoring in a curriculum that focuses on natural resources and/or conservation. Examples of acceptable programs of studies include environmental sciences, wildlife and/or fisheries biology, environmental resource management, or other related programs, leading to a degree such as a two-year associate degree or four-year baccalaureate degree. The completed application must be received in the LCCD office by Wednesday, March 31. The scholarship committee of LCCD will conduct a review of the applicants. Selections will be determined based on past performance and activities, current school and community involvement, future purpose and direction, and communication skills. Prior to the final selection, the scholarship committee will interview the top candidates. An announcement of the successful candidates will be made by Saturday, May 15. This is the first event MJ Small Business Squad is hosting, and Kalbach said attendees can expect a fun afternoon. “We’ll have more than 40 vendors and small businesses and lots of local churches with kids’ activities,” she stated. “Miss Agriculture USA will be there with kids’ games and Cosplayers Care will be doing photos with superheroes and princesses.” The Easter Bunny will be there, along with Mountville Fire Company, which will assist with parking by donation and hold a giveaway

I got comfortable with them, and now I do videos.” Podcasts are a significant missed marketing opportunity, Grim said, as there are large databases of podcasts looking for guests. Even if a podcast is not local, the link will point back to the business page, which will improve rankings in search results.

Use dump truck and/or loader to retrieve materials and fill or empty bins, assist with plant maintenance, and take care of precast block production. Successful candidates must have a valid driver’s license; safe driving record; stable employment history, be able to lift up to 75 lbs, and work outside in all kinds of weather, heat, cold, dusty & muddy places, with extremely loud equipment, and be available for regular overtime. Experience with heavy equipment, concrete operations, and/or any type of plant maintenance is preferred, but not required.
