Fire Company Announces 2019 Fundraisers By Dayna M. Reidenouer

For sale: one red firetruck in good condition. Ready to go immediately. For the past year, the Conestoga Volunteer Fire Company (CVFC), 3290 Main St., Conestoga, has been trying to sell its 1990 E-One engine. Several fire companies from out of state have been interested, but so far, no one has opened their checkbooks to cover the $19,900 asking price. “It’s a good, solid truck,” commented Missi Frankford, who is an active supporter of the fire company. “We used it until we got the new one,” agreed fire company president Troy Bresch. “When we got this one (new in 1990), we thought we were in heaven. Now, 30 years later, we got (another) one, and now we’re thinking we’re in heaven again.” He explained

that for rural fire companies that are still using engines from the 1960s and ’70s, the 28-year-old E-One will be a dream come true. The newest occupant of the CVFC’s engine bay is just over a year old. It is a 2018 model manufactured by 4 Guys Fire Trucks. It was built to the CVFC’s specifications, which included a rescue body so it can carry more tools and other supplies. “It’s our first-out piece,” Bresch said. “It was at the (Enola Low Grade Trail) trestle bridge fire.” Considering new engines start at about $600,000, the members of the CVFC are pleased that only $85,000 is left to pay on the purchase. Community donations and fundraisers will help to continue to reduce the debt, along with funding the general operations of the fire company. See Conestoga Fire Company pg 6

The members of the Conestoga Volunteer Fire Company have planned a series of fundraisers for 2019, beginning with the annual spring dance at the Millersville VFW on March 9.

“Pastor Steve (Doutrich) loved trains,” recalled Dottie Klase, sharing how Kids Express Preschool (KEP), a ministry of Grace Church at Willow Valley, 300 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, got its name when it was founded almost three decades ago. The railroad theme has been carried through the 25 years that the preschool has operated. When the school opened, it offered classes for children ages 3, 4, and 5. A Toddler Junction program was hosted on Fridays before it was replaced by a class for 2-year-olds. The rooms where the 77 students currently enrolled in the See Kids Express Preschool pg 5
