Fundraiser Will Support PM Boys’ Lacrosse By Dayna M. Reidenouer

Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in North America, said Penn Manor High School boys’ lacrosse coach Zack Charles. “It really is an awesome sport to watch, with a lot of action and very little down time,” Charles remarked. Penn Manor (PM) High School introduced its first team in 1998, and the current coaching staff members are all Penn Manor graduates. “We try to have a big family feel to our program,” Charles said. “We hold our athletes to a high standard and expect nothing except their best, not just on the lacrosse field but also while they are out in the community. They are a great group of kids.” Between 30 and 40 students are typically part of the boys’ lacrosse team. The season runs from March through May, with home games played at Comet

Field. Last year, the team finished with nine wins and eight losses. The previous year, the team made it to the district semifinals before losing to Cumberland Valley. “It was the first time ever in District 3 lacrosse that a No. 9 seed - PM - beat the No. 1 seed - Central York,” Charles said. “(It was) also the furthest that a PM team has made it, missing qualifying for states by one game.” The team held its preseason meeting on Dec. 9 and has begun preparing for the season. “The kids have been working their butts off this offseason, and they deserve a lot of recognition from the community,” Charles commented. One of the ways community members may support the team is by attending a designer purse bingo on Sunday, Feb. 9, at the high school cafeteria, 100 E. Cottage Ave., Millersville. The doors will open at noon, and the first See Boys’ Lacrosse pg 3
