Penn Manor Post Prom will hold a designer bag bingo event that will take place on Friday, Jan. 24, in the cafeteria at Manor Middle School, 2950 Charlestown Road, Lancaster. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and games will start at 6 p.m. The cost of a ticket includes 20 games of bingo, with three bingo cards per game. Penn Grant Road, Willow Street, will offer “Joseph’s Table,” a free community meal, on Thursday, Jan. 16, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Doors will open at 4:30 p.m. The meal will include pork, sauerkraut, mashed potatoes, applesauce, rolls, and dessert. In the case of bad weather, the church will follow Lampeter-Strasburg School District’s schedule; if the district is closed or dismisses early, there will be no activities at the church.

The title of OperaLancaster’s next event reflects the performers, not its intended audience. Life, love, and friendship will be celebrated at the “Ladies Night Out” event on Friday, Jan. 17, beginning at 7 p.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church, 110 N. Mulberry St., Lancaster. Vocalists Amy Yovanovich, Carolyn McLain, Heidi Shannon, and Kristin Sims will be accompanied by Maria Thompson Corley. “The program was developed to promote the depth of talent in Lancaster County, which has always been the guiding philosophy of OperaLancaster and an important reason to support the organization today,” said Sims. “On a purely selfish note, I wanted to collaborate with these four wonderful musicians, who also happen to be generous, kind people

However, such a scenario would be disastrous for Earth and its inhabitants, entomologists have said. “Insects are integral to the health of the planet and people,” explained Michael Skvarla, director of the Insect Identification Laboratory at Penn State University (PSU). “They pollinate our crops and feed on pests, help decompose dead animals, form the base of food webs, and stabilize natural environments.” PSU Department of Entomology graduate students Brooke Lawrence and Ginamaria Roman Echevarria will offer a perspective on the worldwide decline of insects in their keynote presentation, “A World of Insects: The

Multi-instrumentalist and producer Damien Sneed, who specializes in classical, jazz, and sanctified soul, recently premiered his new opera, “We Shall Overcome - Our Journey: 400 Years From Africa to Jamestown,” at Carnegie Hall’s Isaac Stern Auditorium/Ronald O. Perelman Stage. The opera showcases musical styles from the African American diaspora from African rhythms to spirituals to gospel to jazz, all interwoven in the classical genre. will host its annual Bill Beck Scholarship Fundraiser on Saturday, Jan. 25, from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Millersville VFW, 219 Walnut Hill Road, Millersville. Tickets may be purchased in advance for a discount or at the door for a higher fee. Tickets include dinner, beverages, music provided by a disc jockey, and dancing. For an additional fee, attendees can join in a cornhole tournament. Prizes will also be available to win via giveaway drawings. The fundraiser honors Penn Manor’s first football coach, Bill Beck, who started the program in 1969.
