Six Honorees Will Be Added To Sports Wall Of Fame By Marcella Peyre-Ferry
The Oxford Area Historical Association (OAHA) will host the presentation “Why Can’t We Grow Roses? The History of Star Roses in West Grove” by Scott Steele on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. The program will be held at Oxford Presbyterian Church, 6 Pine St., Oxford. The public is invited to attend. WFCS Slates Auction, Falcon 5K, Fun Run/Walk By Marcella Peyre-Ferry
This year, the 36th annual West Fallowfield Christian School (WFCS) auction is being paired with the inaugural
Falcon 5K and 1-mile Fun Run/Walk. The 5K and Fun Run/Walk will take place Friday, Oct. 19, starting at 5:15 p.m. Registration will begin at 4 p.m. on race day, or participants may preregister by
Oxford Area Senior Center, 12 E. Locust St., Oxford, will hold a takeout spaghetti dinner on Thursday, Oct. 18. The cost of dinner will include spaghetti with meatballs, salad with dressing, a roll, and homemade dessert. Tuesday, Oct. 16, at www.wfcs.org/5K. All 5K entrants who preregister will receive a T-shirt and a fast-food chicken sandwich at the completion of the run. Fun Run participants have the option to preorder a sandwich when they register online. Individuals who are not participating in the run or walk may call the school office to preorder a sandwich for a fee at 610-593-5011. Those who register on race day for either event will receive T-shirts while supplies last. No sandwiches will be available unless preordered. The 5K will be an out-and-back course on the road, with two slight hills and rural scenery. There will be awards for the top-finishing male and female, as well as awards for seven different age groups. The Fun Run/Walk will take place on campus. No pets will be permitted; however, children in strollers equipped to travel on grass are welcome. See WFCS pg 3
Library To Mark Comic Book Anniversary By Francine Fulton
The Oxford Public Library, 48 S. Second St., Oxford, will celebrate Walking Dead Day on Saturday, Oct. 13, from noon to 4 p.m. Events are designed to celebrate the 15th anniversary of “The Walking Dead” comic created by Robert Kirkman, with art by Tony Moore for the first six issues and by Charlie Adlard starting with issue seven. “‘The Walking Dead’ is very popular. A lot of people read the comics and watch the television show,” said library director Carey Bresler. “The TV show is based on the graphic novel.” As part of the celebration, a zombiethemed craft will be offered at the library, from noon to 4 p.m. “The craft is a make-it-and-take-it,” said Bresler. SPAGHETTI DINNER
Six new honorees will be inducted into the Oxford Sports Wall of Fame on Monday, Oct. 15, at Oxford Area High School (OAHS), 705 Waterway Road, Oxford. The community is invited to the free event to celebrate the honorees with a fellowship time and light refreshments in the OAHS cafeteria beginning at 6:30 p.m. The event will move to the school auditorium at 7 p.m., where each honoree will be recognized and receive a commemorative plate. They will each have an opportunity to make remarks. This year’s inductees are Greg Deaver, Nichole Blaesser Monette, Jaclyn Kulesza Herr, Nicholas Ruggear, Sean Harvey and John Lilley.
