The congregation at Middle Octorara Presbyterian Church, 1199 Valley Road, Quarryville, will hold special events during the holiday season. The community is invited to participate. A Communion service will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 2. Church members will go caroling to individuals who are homebound on Sunday, Dec. 9. Carolers will leave the church on a bus at 5 p.m. and return at about 8:30 p.m. to enjoy some special treats at the church. A Christmas Eve service will begin at 7 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 24. Noble Hill Rescue and Sanctuary, 2002 Noble Road, Kirkwood, will hold a Christmas “open barn” event on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Horses and ponies will be available for adoption. Pony rides will be offered, weather permitting. Crafts, horse saddles, and holiday wreaths will be for sale. Hot sandwiches with meatballs and with sausage and peppers, along with baked goods, coffee, and cider, will also be available for purchase. Orders will be taken for homemade cheesecakes. A holiday fundraiser, featuring a sale of arts and crafts handmade by local artisans, will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Freedom Village at Brandywine, 15 Freedom Blvd., Coatesville. All proceeds will benefit Lucky Dawg Animal Rescue. Adoptable cats and kittens will be present at the event. Admission is free and open to the public. The auditorium will be filled with tables of handcrafted items created by volunteers, adopters, transporters and community supporters of the rescue, which provides a safe haven for local animals in need through foster homes. Among the crafts offered for sale will be handknit and crocheted items, handstitched blankets, dog and cat items, holiday decor, handmade jewelry, tote bags, gift baskets, custom-made tapestry accent pillows, custom-painted signs and

metal art made from horseshoes, such as miniature Christmas trees. In addition, there will be a silent auction and an opportunity to win gift baskets. Participants do not have to be present to win. Photos of and information about the crafts, silent auction items and gift baskets can be found on Facebook by searching for “Lucky Dawg Animal Rescue.” Lucky Dawg Animal Rescue Inc. is a nonprofit, no-kill, all-volunteer organization. The goal is to rescue homeless, abused or unwanted dogs and cats in the local vicinity. It was officially founded on Jan. 1 of this year. “We are brand new, and we have already adopted out over 80 dogs and approximately 40 cats,” said organization founder Mary Bauer. “We are all foster-based. All of our animals are learning how to live in a home before being adopted out.” See Animal Rescue pg 8

WREATH WORKSHOP

Church of the Ascension, 406 Second Ave., Parkesburg, will present a Make and Take Wreath Workshop on Sunday, Dec. 2, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Participants will make a wreath for themselves or a friend. The annual Leacock Presbyterian Church Treats ‘N Treasures Christmas Bazaar has been held for many years, but each holiday season, organizer Loretta McClarigan likes to mix things up by changing the offerings at the event. For 2018, McClarigan and fellow organizers Lois Snader and Carol Shearer have added a Fashion Corner, a Disney table, and more to the seasonal sale. This year’s bazaar will be held on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 3181 Lincoln Highway East, Paradise.
