N

ew Octorara Primar y Learning Center principal Angela Regrut feels like she is right where she belongs.

Having bounced back and forth from working in school administration to being a special education teacher, the New Jersey native feels like Octorara is the perfect place to combine her skills into one position.

“I (had) been (at Radnor) for the last five years, working with the wonderful teachers and people there, and then decided that it was time to come back into administration,” she said. “Working with the teachers as their coach got me back into that flow again, and then this opportunity at Octorara popped up, and I jumped all over it.”

Regrut brings decades of experience as an elementary and middle school teacher, instructional coach, multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) facilitator and special education teacher to Octorara, where she is beginning her role with the start of the new school year.

As the new school year gets underway, there is certainly plenty of change at West Fallowfield Christian School (WFCS).

Along with the ongoing expansion project and ensuing Growing Together Capital Campaign, the school is welcoming a new principal and first ever head of school this fall.

The 14th annual Atglen Community Day, featuring food, craft vendors, children’s activities and entertainment, will be presented by Penningtonville Presbyterian Church (PPC) and the Atglen Public Library (APL) on Saturday, Sept. 19, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Activities will take place at Atglen Community Park, 400 Ridge Ave., Atglen.

Each year, the organizing committee plans a new attraction; last year, it was a combination rock wall and bungee trampoline.

This year, it will be a zip line, like it was in 2024.

“It goes right down Ridge Avenue,” said Cristi Hahn, manager of Atglen Borough. “It can go as long as there’s no power lines or anything. … It comes from on a tractor trailer, and it takes them a couple of hours to set it up. … I was amazed, it was really popular. Kids and adults loved it.”

Entertainment will include Matt Holub, who will perform pop music on an acoustic guitar; a presentation by Critter Connections at 2 p.m.; and a science show by Innovation Train at 11:30 a.m., which will consist of hands-on science programs and STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics) programs.

“Matt Holub has done music for us every year since the beginning,” Hahn said. “He’s a beloved member of the community, and I think it would be disappointing if we didn’t have him.”

“I was reading up on the history of the school before I came,” he said.

“Back in the ’90s, they had put together a 50th anniversar y booklet . I was reading through that, and my dad was actually mentioned because they said they had gone to a MACSA convention over in Lancaster.”

She has an undergraduate degree in English Education from Millersville University and a master’s degree with principal certification from Wilmington University.

Originally a two-room schoolhouse, WFCS has expanded greatly over the past eight decades. The school originally served grades one through eight and now offers preschool through 12th-grade education for the first time this school year.

WFCS enrollment has g reatly ex panded over the last half-decade. It enrolls over 180 students this fall. The new building project includes five new

classrooms, four of which are on the new second floor of the school’s existing academic building. It also includes a facilitator planning space, testing rooms and a mezzanine that is intended to serve as an event and collaborative learning space.

“Much of the construction is completed,” Jonathan said. “We’re still (putting) finishing touches on the elevator; some of the final painting and final finishing elements; getting our certification of occupancy; and making sure that the security and the fire alarms, some of the electrical elements, T Vs and projectors and things (work).”

As par t of the Grow i n g To g e t h e r C a p i t a l Campaign, the school projected that a total of $850,000 was needed for the project. Currently, around $500,000 of that has been collected.

O n e b i g f u n d ra i s i n g event for the school is its annual auction, the 45th edition of which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 10.

WFCS, founded in 1941, serves students from the Avon Grove, Coatesville, Octorara, Oxford, Pequea Valley, Solanco and Unionville- C hadds Ford area school districts. Busing is provided, and financial aid is available.

Canine Partners for Life (CPL), a nonprofit organization that raises, trains, and provides service and companion dogs for individuals with disabilities, has launched a $3.2 million capital campaign, the Partnership for Independence Campaign. The funds raised will go toward constructing a training facility that is safe, accessible, and respectful of the needs of the individuals the organization serves. The construction project is the last of two planned phases of campus expansion over the past 10 years, and CPL has raised more than $2.4 million thus far for the final phase. Once the project is completed, CPL’s 45-acre campus will be the site of the dogs’ full cycle with CPL, from birth to graduation.

The new Mollie and Minor Barringer Training Center, featuring the Gerret and Tatiana Copeland Education Hall and Auditorium, will offer a next-level experience for dogs, clients, trainers, and volunteers. Her dissertation for her doctorate was on the relationship between teachers and special education teachers and how they handle conflict and communication.

Wreaths Across America Prepares for Annual Fall Bingo The Pequea Valley Cemeteries chapter of Wreaths Across America will host its annual fall bingo night on Saturday, Sept. 19, at The Cellar at Houston Run, 836 Houston Run Drive, Gap. Doors will open for the event at 4 p.m. Early bird games will commence at 5:15 p.m.; regular bingo will start 15 minutes after.

Sheller most recently served as acting warden after the previous warden, Howard Holland, was promoted to deputy county administrator in March.

Sheller had served as deputy warden since February 2024.

Prior to holding that post, Sheller served for 36 years with the Parkesburg Borough Police Department,

including more than 30 years as chief. In that role, he developed Parkesburg’s contract policing model, which continues to provide full-service police coverage for several surrounding municipalities.

Church Posts Tent Revival Pa r k e s b u r g Wo rd o f Faith Church, 501 Lenover Road, Parkesburg , will host a tent revival from Sunday, Sept. 20, through Sunday, Sept. 27. Worship services will be held every evening at 7 p.m., with an additional 10 a.m. program on Sundays.

The revival will feature evangelist Gary Bailey and the Rev. Jim Lantz. Bailey has ministered in churches and tent meetings in the U.S. and abroad for 30

years. He accepted Jesus in high school and then went to Rehma Bible Training Center. He worked for the Rex Humbard Ministries for two years before returning to Pennsylvania, where he met his wife, Gwen.

Bailey is a pastor, author, and grandfather.

We are seeking a reliable and hardworking Nursery Operations Specialist to keep our woody, plant nursery running smoothly. This hands-on role splits time between the plants, maintenance, and nursery operations. You will be responsible for operating equipment (tractors and skid steers), driving 16’ and 26’ box trucks for local deliveries, assisting in facility maintenance, and participating in the hands-on growing of plants. Horticultural work may include but is not limited to seed collection, propagation, shearing, pruning, and staking of plants. Collinson Joins Penn State Extension

Penn State Extension in Chester County has welcomed a new Extension agent, Cordelia Collinson.

She is from northern Virginia and was first introduced to agriculture through a summer camp on a dairy farm in Pennsylvania. This experience sparked her passion for agriculture, leading her to pursue an education in soil and plant sciences.

Before joining Penn State Extension, Collinson worked in agricultural consulting, research, and youth education, including roles in southeast Pennsylvania.

As an Extension agent, she will work with producers and community partners throughout Chester County, connecting them with Extension resources and educational programs.

Her responsibilities include providing support and technical assistance to producers, identifying local agricultural needs, developing educational opportunities, and building relationships with the agricultural community.

Shakespeare Production Posted SALT Performing Arts will present Shakespeare’s comedy “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” on Friday, Sept. 25, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 26, at 2 and 7 p.m. The performances will take place outdoors at the Eagleview Town Center, 565 Wellington Square, Exton.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” features an enchanted world of mischievous fairies, mixed-up lovers, and humorous misunderstandings. Each show will run approximately two hours.

Tickets not needed. As part of a 10-year partnership with Chester County Food Bank, SALT will collect food for the food bank at every performance. Attendees are asked not to donate food items in glass containers.
