The Oxford United Methodist Church (UMC), 18 Addison St., Oxford, will host its monthly all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 7 to 10 a.m. The breakfast will include French toast, pancakes, scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, bacon, sausage, oven-roasted potatoes, specialty breads, and chipped beef and sausage gravy on alternating months. Separate costs have been set for adults and for children ages 3 to 10. Tickets may be purchased at the church office in advance or at the door. All proceeds will benefit the church’s general fund. Atglen Community Day is set for Saturday, Sept. 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. rain or shine. The popular event will be filled with fun activities, shopping opportunities and entertainment intended to please people of all ages. Prior to the start of Community Day, the Atglen Parks and Recreation Commission will present the second annual Covered Bridge Family Fun Run/Walk. Registration will start at 8 a.m. at the Penningtonville Presbyterian Church, located at the intersection of Main Street and Ridge Avenue in Atglen. Runners and walkers will be asked to bring a food donation for the Octorara Food Cupboard. The 5K run will start at 8:30 a.m., followed by the walk. No pets will be permitted. The course will run down Main Street to Steelville Mill Road to Creek Road, under the covered bridge and

Penn Hill Meeting House, 2239 Robert Fulton Highway, Peach Bottom, will host a benefit yard sale on Saturday, Sept 14, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will be held rain or shine. Spaces are available to rent for a donation by contacting lindajcoates@gmail.com. Proceeds from the event will benefit Right Sharing Resources, a group that raises funds for women in Sierra Leone, Kenya, and India. The women are then able to start businesses and pay back their loans.

New this year will be a magic show by Mystery Circus Arts, starting at 11:30 a.m., followed by a supervised interactive circus experience where children can learn simple circus skills. “The kids are up and doing something and involved in some way, not just sitting and watching,” said Cristi Hahn, parks and recreation committee co-chair. The Critter Connection will present a live animal show, and there will be live music by Matt Holub. Cornerstone Sets Fifth Annual Walk-Pull For Life Fundraiser By Marcella Peyre-Ferry
The congregation of St. John’s Episcopal Church, located at the intersection of routes 340 and 10 in Compass, will hold its 290th anniversary service on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 10:30 a.m. The service will be led by the retired Rev. Daniel G.P. Gutierrez, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Pennsylvania, headquartered in Philadelphia. The community is welcome to take part in the anniversary celebration along with past and current congregation members and past clergy members. According to a written history of the See St. John’s pg 2
St. John’s Episcopal Church in Compass, founded in 1729, will celebrate its 290th anniversary on Sept. 15. The interior of the current church building features the same light fixtures and ceiling medallion as it did when it was constructed in 1838. The light fixtures were later electrified.
Pregnancy Resources at Cornerstone will hold its fifth annual Walk-Pull for Life fundraiser, featuring a 5K walk and flag football competition, on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Salisbury Township Park, 777 White Horse Road, Gap.
