A major fundraiser of the year for the Moores Memorial Library in Christiana is the annual golf tournament. Now in its 10th year, the popular best ball tournament is being held on Monday, Sept. 16, at Tanglewood Manor Golf Club, 653 Scotland Road, Quarryville. A light lunch will be provided at noon and there will be a shotgun start at 1 p.m. Dinner will be served at the conclusion of the tournament. The single player fee includes green fees, use of a cart, lunch, dinner and on-course beverages. Preregistration is encouraged by Tuesday, Sept. 10, but walk-on registration will be accepted while space permits. Golfers may sign up with friends as a foursome or enter as an individual and be placed with a team. There will be a number of contests and prizes throughout the day, including

Pet Rescue Seeks Volunteers

The West Chester Chapter of the Philanthropic Educational Organization (P.E.O.), a nonprofit organization that promotes positive educational opportunities for women, will present a fundraiser on Saturday, Sept. 21, that will feature an English tea party and a premiere showing of the “Downton Abbey” movie. The tea social will take place at the West Chester United Methodist Church, 129 S. High St., West Chester, from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The tea will be followed by a private showing of the movie at the Regal Downingtown theater, 100 Quarry Road, Downingtown. In addition to needing foster families and people willing to adopt dogs and cats, Spay and Save Inc., a nonprofit pet rescue organization that serves Bucks, Chester, Delaware and Montgomery counties, is in need of people willing to spend time with cats and kittens that are housed at local pet stores while

waiting for their permanent homes. Prizes will be awarded to first- and second-place teams, plus there will be a $1,000 cash prize for a hole-in-one, compliments of Hershey Motors. There will also be many door prizes, including gift cards from local businesses. This tournament is designed for amateur golfers, and no prizes will be awarded to professionals. The goal of the day is to enjoy a round of golf, have fun and support the Moores Memorial Library. The event is being organized by the library board and the Friends of the Library. Proceeds will go directly toward funding library operations. The money helps in maintaining free use of computers and free internet access for library patrons. Golf Tournament To Benefit Christiana Library

The Oxford Rotary Foundation will host an all-you-can-eat crab feast at The Wellwood, 523 Water St., Charlestown, Md., on Sunday, Sept. 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. The cost per person will include all-you-can-eat steamed crabs, steamed shrimp, Maryland crab soup, fried chicken, corn on the cob, potato salad, coleslaw, cookies, and brownies. Tickets will be discounted when purchased in advance and full price at the door. Tickets will also be discounted for youths age 12 and under. Tickets are available at www.oxfordrotaryfoundation.com.
