PAWS FOR READING

Parkesburg Library, 105 West St., Parkesburg, will offer PAWS for Reading sessions. The program allows children to read to dogs so children may improve their reading skills. Fifteen-minute sessions will be available on the third Tuesday of each month between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. The next sessions will take place on Aug. 21. To register, call 610-857-5165. UPCOMING MEETING

The Atglen Public Library, 413 Valley Ave., Atglen, has announced that its board of trustees will meet on Monday, Aug. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the library. The board of trustees meets on the third Monday of each month to manage the business of the library. The public is welcome to attend. For further information, contact the library at 610-593-6848.

Relay For Life of Lancaster County will host Cruise for a Cure on Saturday, Aug. 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Memorial Park, 297 Park Ave., Quarryville. The event will include food, music, prize drawings, and a firetruck candy drop. The first 75 vehicles will receive dash plaques. Trophies for first and second places will be awarded for the following categories: car, truck, motorcycle, tractor, and semi, as well as Best in Show, Best Club Participation, and third place in the car and truck categories. Voting will end at noon, and winners will be announced at approximately 1 p.m. There is a registration fee per vehicle, though admission is free for spectators. Octorara Little League Team Plays In State Tournament By Francine Fulton

Members of the Octorara Area Little League (OALL) seniors team, ages 15 and 16, recently advanced to the 2018 Pennsylvania Senior League State Baseball Championship held July 11 to 15 at Showers Field in DuBois. This was the first time that a team from OALL advanced to the state all-star tournament. Team members include Justin Bray, James Colligan, Ryan Dorbich, Sean Foster, Anthony Georgette, Christopher Hamrick, Zachary Hurrelbrinck, Nicholas Palmer, Kaden Salada, Kyle Stauffer, Weston Stoltzfus, Parker Wiley, Zane Wolownik and Christopher Zary. The team’s coaches are John Foster, Gerald Stoltzfus and Brian Zary, president of OALL. Brian explained that following the regular season, an all-star team is chosen See Little League pg 6

“It turned out to be one of the best things I have ever done for myself,” said Donna Trace when recalling her decision to attend GriefShare, a support group for those dealing with the death of a loved one. “It is something we all have in common. We all lose people,

and we all need help.” The fall session of GriefShare will begin on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at Gateway Church, 160 Cowan Road, Parkesburg. The seventh annual Lanchester Fiddlers’ Picnic is set for Saturday, Aug. 18, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Landis Woodland Preserve, 610 Zion Hill Road, Atglen. This year’s event will feature a wider variety of performers and musical styles than ever before. “I wanted to make it a variety this year - country, folk, bluegrass and oldtime (music), and I’m pretty much on the way to doing that,” musical organizer and master of ceremonies Dave Armstrong said.

will be held outdoors at Upper Oxford Township Park on Catamount Road in Oxford on Thursday, Aug. 16, at 7 p.m. The program, “A Teddy Bear’s Picnic,” will be presented by local churches and community handbell ringers. The ringers will present a variety of music, including some sing-along pieces. Attendees may bring lawn chairs or blankets. A freewill offering will be accepted, and all donations will go to Russellville Grange 91. In the event of rain, the concert will be held at the Grange hall, 245 Old Limestone Road, Oxford.
