New Holland police officer Wendell Metzler and his family had participated in the Relay For Life of Lancaster County for many years in support of a close friend who was fighting cancer. Then, in the summer of 2018 on a family vacation to Virginia Beach, Metzler had to be taken into the emergency room due to excruciating pain and the sudden inability to walk. He was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma. “As a public servant, I had always taken great pride in helping others,” shared Metzler. “Through my times as a volunteer firefighter, EMT, and

The 11th annual Romeo Softball Tournament will take place on Friday and Saturday, June 21 and 22, at Paradise Community Park on Londonvale Road. Softball games will take place both days. The FUNguys For Life team (pictured) was one of 112 teams that participated in the Relay For Life of Lancaster County on June 7 and 8 at Conestoga Valley High School. Team captain and Cochranville resident Brenda Shelton (back, second from right) said the team name is in honor of her husband, Robert Shelton, who had a mushroom business and passed away in 2009. The FUNguys For Life raised $18,312 toward the event grand total of more than $672,462.

In the village of Georgetown, there is a place where students with special needs gather three days a week. Guided by up to five teachers, the students at the Sunny Sunbeam Center begin their days with devotions and then spend time in song. Ranging in age from 15 to 30, the students take part in a variety of planned activities including lessons,
