Parkesburg Library Offers Knitting Group By Marcella Peyre-Ferry

All stitchers - no matter their age, whether they prefer to knit or crochet or whether they have many years of experience or none - are welcome at the Parkesburg Library’s weekly knitting group, nicknamed “Knit This - Purl That.” Held every Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m., the gathering offers a way for a beginner to learn how to knit and for a more experienced needleworker to gain inspiration for new projects. Last year, the Parkesburg Library was looking for new community activities to add to its programming. “(The library’s event coordinator) Kathleen Hood gave us a list of things we might want to try

to start in our library. I thought maybe a knitting club would be something people would enjoy coming to,” library staff member Sandy McLaughlin explained. “She started it.” McLaughlin and fellow staff member Cheryl Johnson now attend the weekly club meetings at the library. Attendance varies, with young knitters participating more during the summer months when they have fewer school commitments. “One little girl did finger crochet. She sat here and had a scarf done before anybody could blink,” McLaughlin said. “Another lady brought two of her girls; they knitted on looms. They still come, but not as regularly as they had before school started.” See Knitting Group pg 8
