Spring registration open for Octorara Area Little League

E

ven though the calendar says January, Octorara Area Little League (OALL) members are already thinking about warmer temperatures and the start of the spring 2024 season. Registration is currently underway for spring play at the league’s website, www.octoraralittleleague .org, and the deadline to register is at midnight on Saturday, Feb. 10. Boys and girls ages 3 to 16 are invited to participate. “We are projected to have over 20 teams and (more than) 200 players for

the spring 2024 season,” said Brianna Kowalchik, the league’s events/social media coordinator. “Practices will begin in the middle of March, and games will commence in early April. We will officially kick off the season with our opening-day festivities on Saturday, April 13.” Games are played at the league’s main fields, 325 N. Bridge St., Christiana. The four fields are located behind the Christiana Lions Club building, and there is also a concession stand. Octorara Little L eague is volunteer-run, and its mission

statement reads, in part, “Our dedicated coaches and volunteers are committed to instilling values of teamwork, discipline and responsibility, both on and off the field.” “ E v e r yo n e o n t h e b o a rd , coaches and assistant coaches are volunteers,” Kowalchik pointed out. “Our concession stand is volunteer-run. It take a lot of manpower and willingness to help, but we get good people.” Players pay a registration fee, which entitles them to a uniform and hat. Agency seeks diaper donations BY FRANCINE FULTON

Cornerstone Reproductive Health (formerly known as Pregnancy Resources at Cornerstone) is currently in need of diaper donations. Especially needed are sizes 4 to 6, but all sizes are welcome. Donations can be dropped off at the Cornerstone office, located at 5280 Lincoln Highway, Gap. “People are asked to call and schedule a time to drop off donations on Mondays through Thursdays between 10 a.m. and

6 p.m. We can schedule appointments around our clients,” explained Olivia Imchen, Cornerstone’s director of client services and advancement. The diapers will be used to supply Cornerstone ’s baby boutique, which is currently running low. “When (clients) are involved in our parenting program, they can get diapers, wipes, formula and clothes from our baby boutique,” Imchen explained. Every year, people around the globe gather to celebrate the life and work of famous Scottish poet Robert Burns. The celebration, most commonly referred to as Burns Night, is typically held close to Burns’ birthday on Jan. 25, and it incorporates many Scottish traditions. The Octorara Covenanter Presbyterian Foundation, based in Quarryville, invites members of the public to attend a Burns Night Supper at 5:30 p.m. on S aturd ay, Feb. 3. The event will be hosted at Beale Manor, 200 S. Church St., Parkesburg. Upon guests’ arrival at Beale Manor, they will be greeted with music from bagpiper Thompson McConnell.
