Oxford Area Historical Association (OAHA) will meet on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Oxford Masonic Lodge Hall, 245 N. Third St., Oxford. “The Visionary World of Humphrey Marshall” will be presented by artist Adrian Martinez. Martinez will discuss his artistic renderings of the Colonial period, 1750 to 1800, covering the life of the noted Chester County botanist. The public is invited to attend. Octorara FBLA Students Advance To State Competition By Francine Fulton
Several members from Octorara Area High School’s (OAHS) Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter recently scored high marks in a regional competition that included different categories relating to business. Members had the option of competing as individuals or as teams in a category of their choice. First-place winners of the regional event included Consiglio Roselli, Accounting II - Individual; Casey Carr, Graphic Design - Team; and Gavin Camerote, Graphic Design Team. Samantha Tellez was a secondplace winner in Social Media Campaign - Individual. Third-place winners were John Beecher, Sports and Entertainment Marketing - Individual; Jack Jobe, Marketing - Team; and Makayla Roccia, Marketing - Team. Winning fourth place were Benjamin Pratt, Global
Business - Individual, and Jesus DuenasGonzalez, Advertising - Individual. By placing in the top four spots, the OAHS FBLA members will now move on to compete at the state level in Hershey in April. FBLA adviser Tammy Simon explained that students in the Accounting, Global Business, Sports and Entertainment Marketing and Marketing categories participated in objective testing that took place on Oct. 29, 2018, at OAHS. Students in the Graphic Design and Social Media Campaign categories competed in front of a panel of judges during a competition held on Dec. 6, 2018, at the Downingtown STEM Academy. “(Some students) did not have a performance part; it was just objective testing,” Simon said. “For the online testing, they had a two-hour window to complete the test. Young Missionary Hopes To Visit Compeer Chester County Names New Program Director Every Country In The World By Francine Fulton

While people in recovery from a mental illness are treated by professionals and various therapies, they may lack the support of personal friends. Helping to fill that gap is Compeer Chester County, a nonprofit organization that pairs people living with mental health conditions with volunteer friends from the community. “We want to add friendship therapy to a person’s life,” said Donna Kueny, who was named the new Compeer Chester County program director on Dec. 17. “Both people benefit from that. The volunteers truly make a difference in someone’s life, and for the person in recovery their self-esteem level goes up and See Compeer pg 8

Conner Haines, an 18-year-old homeschool graduate from Honey Brook, has set a major goal - to share the Gospel in every country of the world within the next five years by working with ministries, missionary groups and Christians in each country. He also offers the groups his videography and photography services to help them document their work. Conner began his adventure six months ago and has visited 59 countries so far, including Croatia, Hungary, Germany, Guatemala, Mexico and El Salvador. He has had the opportunity visit with orphans and refugees, take part in building projects, volunteer at vacation Bible schools and help the homeless. See Missionary pg 7
