Dover Farmers Market

he Dover Farmers Market opened last year with a mission to offer locally produced foods and produce to the northern York County region.

The market carries produce, locally raised meats, local dairy products, freshmade baked goods, locally made snack foods and pretzels, local honey, Pennsylvania maple syrup and locally made teas and other beverages, as well as an assortment of locally crafted canned goods including pickles, jams and jellies and nut butters. The market has a selection of German imported foods as well.

The Dover Farmers Market carries milk, butter and cream produced by Apple Valley Creamery in East Berlin.

Apple Valley Creamery is one of the few farms in Pennsylvania to allow its cows to graze naturally and to be Animal Welfare Approved. The market also specializes in locally raised meat, all of which has been raised in humane, smallfarm conditions. Meat offerings include grass-fed beef from Locust Point Cattle Company in Dover; free-range, pastured chicken from FoxWood Run Farm in Dover; pork products from Triple L Farms in Carlisle; and lamb cuts from Breslau Farms in Dover.

n November of 1987, James Weire started a small hardware store at 37 S. Main St., Manchester, after purchasing an old Turkey Hill building.

Weire started with two employees, and in 1993, he purchased the store’s current location, known to locals as “Fun Bowl,� at 4335 N. George St., Manchester. Manchester Hardware now has 16 employees.

Weire joined the Ace Hardware corporate co-op in December 1998. This opened new opportunities that have helped the store grow and add new services for its customers.

Weire’s daughter, Wendy Snyder, has worked alongside her father for the past 22 years, and several grandchildren have also worked at the store throughout the years.

Manchester Hardware features a large rental department, a greenhouse, and services including screen and window repair, key cutting, locksmith services, fax and copy services, mower repair and mainte tion. The business offers free shipping on items ordered from Ace Hardware.
