Faulkner Chevrolet helped spearhead a campaign, alongside Faulkner BMW, in conjunction with The Salvation Army to bring Christmas cheer to 75 children throughout Lancaster County. It was the first collaboration between the two Faulkner dealerships and the local Salvation Army’s Angel Tree Program. The Angel Tree Program is an annual event. Children ages of 2 to 18 can request gifts, and the Lancaster community supports

the efforts to grant their wishes. Children provide their size for a new jacket and request hats, gloves, and scarves to keep them warm during the winter months. Requested toys include crafts, board games, dolls, stuffed animals, and more. The goal is for donors to give what they are able and bring joy to children during the holiday season. Faulkner Chevrolet general manager Chad Berger organized the dealerships’ participation in the project.

Lancaster Farmland Trust (LFT) celebrated farmland preservation and Lancaster County agriculture at its annual dinner on Oct. 30. More than 260 friends, farmers, and supporters attended to honor the commitment the Lancaster County community has made to the land. The event, held at the Eden Resort and Suites, raised more than $160,000 for farmland preservation. Jeff Swinehart, chief operating officer for LFT, announced that over the past year, the organization worked with 11 farm families to preserve 650 acres of Lancaster County farmland. Since its

start in 1988, the nonprofit has protected a total of 504 farms covering more than 30,600 acres. Pennsylvania Secretary of Agriculture Russell Redding attended the event and spoke about the ongoing importance of farmland preservation and Lancaster County’s foundational role in the movement in Pennsylvania. He cited the partnership between the Lancaster County Agricultural Preserve Board and Lancaster Farmland Trust as a model for achieving success in preserving what is special about Lancaster County. The highlight of the evening was the annual Acres for Auction,

at which attendees entered “bids” to preserve two family farms. During this year’s successful “auction,” LFT raised enough money to preserve a 77-acre farm in Drumore Township and a 50acre farm in Elizabeth Township. Farm families in attendance received a token of appreciation for their commitment to farmland preservation. Also during the evening’s festivities, LFT honored partners and volunteers who contributed to another successful year for LFT. The Amos Funk Spirit of Cooperation Award was presented to Salisbury Township for its partnership with LFT to improve

water quality on farms in the municipality. The Darvin Boyd Service to Agriculture Award went to Christ Taylor, a longtime supporter, board of trustees member, and preserved farm owner, for his efforts to preserve farmland. Kay Collier received the “Consider It Done” Award for generously contributing her time and talents to support the mission of LFT. The event saw the support of the local and regional business community, as well. More than 30 businesses supported the event, including Turkey Hill Dairy as the Heritage Sponsor.

Giant Customers Can Earn A Free Ham Giant Food Stores recently announced that from now through Saturday, Dec. 28, customers can earn points toward a free ham certificate every time they shop in-store using their card through Giant Choice Rewards. Customers can earn their free ham certificate by redeeming points in-store or digitally through the Giant or Martin’s Food Market app or website with an online account. Customers who earn 400 points from now through Dec. 28 can choose to redeem the points for a certificate for a free Giant brand spiral sliced half ham. Paper reward certificates can be redeemed through Dec. 28 at any Giant or Martin’s Food Market location; digital reward certificates can be redeemed during that same period in-store. Customers can

A partnership between Lancaster City Alliance and Community Action Partnership of Lancaster County (CAP) has employed city residents in need of work and resulted in the completion of its first project at 602 Saint Joseph St. The project, known as Front STEPS, combines the expertise of both CAP and Lancaster City Alliance to engage the neighborhood and train workers to repair facades on various city streets. The property, formerly a condemned laundromat, received significant work to its Victorianera storefront, including installation of period-appropriate storefront windows, doors, and railings as well as repairs to the crumbling foundation. With these enhancements, the property can now offer neighborhoodserving business opportunities on the ground floor as well as safe and affordable housing on the upper floors. There are nearly 50 façade improvement projects currently in the works, with the goal to complete 65 façade projects by the end of 2020.

Bible Study, Discussion Group Set An Exploring, Growing Together study, “A Clash of Kingdoms: Paul Proclaims Jesus As Lord, Part I,” will be held on Mondays from Jan. 6 to Feb. 24. Sessions will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lititz United Methodist Church (UMC), 201 E. Market St., in room 101 on the lower level. Attendees will learn how the apostle Paul shared about Christ in Philippi, a Roman colony. Teacher and historian Randy Vanderhaan will highlight the historical, geographical, and cultural contexts of Scripture in the DVD sessions. If Warwick School District schools are closed, class will not be held. A Discovery Guide book may be purchased for class sessions. Additionally, Exploring, Growing Together, a forum learning series at Lititz UMC, will continue its 2019-20 forum learning series, which aims to offer a safe learning environment in which to discuss and explore topics and beliefs. The group meets on Thursdays on the lower level of the church from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. On Jan. 16, 23, and 30, 2020, the group will discuss “Redeeming Love” by Francine Rivers, a retelling of the biblical love story of Gomer and Hosea, set against the backdrop of the California Gold Rush. A discussion guide will accompany the sessions led by Gerry Gwinn. Flyers for the 2019-20 series may be obtained from the lobby Missions Table and the Room 101 lower-level bulletin board. Flyers and brochures are available at the small group kiosk. Readers may contact Linda at 717-626-0745 or raven303@ ptd.net for more information on “A Clash of Kingdoms,” as well as the forum learning series, including to offer suggestions for books and leaders.
