rowing up in L os A ngeles , Jael Chambers never dreamt he would one day become a college president, much less in some far-off place like Lancaster, Pennsylvania . But C hambers made the most of his Godgiven skills and abilities and nurtured them through faith and education. Because of that experience and inner strength, officials at Lancaster Bible College (LBC) have entrusted Chambers to lead the college into the future. “Education is the second most important thing that God has allowed me to experience,” said Chambers. “None of my family members went to college. For me, going to college was the first time I could sit and not be judged. I didn’t feel like

I had to survive. I owe so much to education. It’s hard for me to think where I’d be if I didn’t go to college.” Recently, Chambers was selected to become the new president of LBC, which is located at 901 Eden Road, Lancaster. Chambers will officially assume his important responsibilities as the nondenominational college’s sixth president on July 1, 2027, when current president Tommy Kiedis transitions out of the position. Follow ing a thorou g h application and interview process, LBC ’s governing board of tr ustees chose Chambers from a handful of fellow candidates. Since January of 2023, Chambers had been ser ving LBC in the role of executive vice president. Chambers’ selection was aided by a recommendation from Kiedis.

Steve Wilson tells stories without words. Steve Wilson paints big pictures with broad strokes. Steve Wilson uses colors to express emotions. He is an artist. He is a mural artist. “A mural is typically a large painting on a wall or part of (a) building,” said Wilson. “Murals bring color and the use of beautiful art into the community. They beautify an existing area or building, convey a message, enhance the purpose of the building or business residing within or honor an historic figure.” See Steve Wilson pg 6 This mural is a perfect example of Steve Wilson’s work.

There are many meaningful ways to memorialize a loved one who has passed. All of them are heartfelt, comforting and inspirational. But one of the most moving ways is assisting someone who is experiencing life challenges which are similar to the ones your beloved faced. Ta k e t h e Z e k e M u m m a Memorial Golf Outing as a great example. “We do know it’s a good thing,” said Laurie Mumma, Zeke’s mom and one of the organizers of the benefit golf outing. “We’ve always wanted to help people, but we don’t have thousands (of dollars) to give away. There are so many different things you need for these kids; it’s just a world of expense. If we can help people, we’re just like, ‘Let’s do it.’” Recently, the Mumma family helped stage the 15th edition of the annual Zeke Mumma Memorial Golf Outing at Manor Golf Club in Sinking Spring. The event raised about $6,000, proceeds that were donated to the family of 15-year-old Conestoga Valley High School student Miles Brenneman, who has been diagnosed with cerebral palsy. About 150 players and supporters participated in the golf outing, as well as a handful of generous sponsors. The Brenneman family is using the money as a down payment on a handicapped-accessible van. “The goal of the Zeke Mumma Memorial Golf Outing is to help other families who have special needs kids and give them financial support in honor of our son,

God put it on our hearts to keep going. Over the years, we’ve had so many people help us, we wanted to help others. It brings the community together. People just see love in progress.” Zeke Mumma suffered a brain injury when he was eight months old and spent the rest of his life in a wheelchair. Jael Chambers from pg 1 “There was a list, and I was on the list,” said Chambers. “The board knew my work. I wasn’t a stranger to the board. I was in a role that supported the current president. We’ve had three years of record-breaking enrollment. I think the board thought if they went external, it might take the college in a different direction. They wanted to be on the current trajectory.” LBC was founded in 1933 and counted 16 students among its original enrollment. There are currently 3,200 full-time and part-time students pursuing degrees at LBC, both in person and online. LBC offers 32 professional programs, 18 of which are ministry and Bible-related programs. LBC is one of the largest Bible colleges in the country by enrollment, and second only to Millersville University in Lancaster County in total college enrollment. “Most people don’t know who their president is when they’re in college,” said Chambers, a resident of

Manheim Township. “The president is responsible for direction and the fiscal wellness of the college, and the mission and the vision of the future for the college. It is a lot of responsibility, but I don’t feel like I’m in it alone.” Chambers holds a bachelor’s degree in Christian ministries from George Fox University in Newburg, Ore., and a master’s degree in urban studies from Eastern University in St. David’s, Pa. He also earned an executive women in leadership certificate and a diversity and inclusion for HR certificate from Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y. “I don’t think there’s any campus like LBC’s,” said Chambers. “If you step on campus, you’re going to have people talk to you. You’re going to have eye contact. I just love the students. Education changed my life, and I don’t see me being here without God guiding my journey and without an education.” For additional information, go to www.lbc.edu.

Wilson is the owner of Wilson Design Group and a partner with Masterpiece Murals, who also paints fine art, designs graphics and illustrates books and magazines. In addition, Wilson, who earned a communication design degree from Kutztown University, teaches watercolor painting classes. “A mural is a large piece of public art,” said Wilson. “They can depict almost anything. A lot of times they represent the area where they are located.” Murals aren’t just some spontaneous, freelanced oversized painting; they are deliberate, wellthought-out, detail-oriented works of art. Wilson’s murals can take a few months to complete, and the process can include between 10 and 30 hours of design and planning. That process also includes bud-

gets, customer meetings, photos of the walls and buildings, photoshopped images, preparing the surface to accept the paint, painting and finally a finishing varnish. “I start with the customer input, then design from there,” said Wilson. “Every mural is different. The design really drives the style of the mural. I have designed murals that look like a fine art painting, and others are very graphic, with large shapes and bright color.” “Murals are very time consuming, and the painting is the fun part of the process,” he added. “I enjoy any type of painting, and to see the finished product is always exciting.
