Addictions Workshop Scheduled By Ann Mead Ash

In late 2016 when TTC/Potter’s House approached leaders at Conestoga Church of the Brethren about the possibility of holding a two-part educational program concerning the heroin epidemic in Lancaster County, church members responded. “It’s needed in the community,” said pastor Jere Cassel. The first effort led to a second collaborative workshop in April of this year. According to Cassel, church members then suggested a fall workshop. Cassel met with TTC/Potter’s House ministry director Lanny Millette to discuss content. “The holiday connection was Jere’s idea,” noted Millette. “I said, ‘It’s close to the holidays; See Workshop pg 5

Working to organize “Holidays and Realities of Community Addictions,” scheduled to take place at Conestoga Church of the Brethren, 141 E. Main St., Leola, on Nov. 7, are (from left) Lanny Millette, Samuel Mwangi, and Jere Cassel. The workshop will include Mwangi as keynote speaker, along with a panel discussion and a question-and-answer period.

The Lancaster Housing Opportunity Partnership (LHOP) has announced the completion of the Lancaster Veterans Barracks, a first-of-its-kind home dedicated for veterans who are part of the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas Veterans Court Program. A ceremony marking the completion and opening of the Barracks was held on Sept. 20 at the renovated home at 455 Fremont St., Lancaster. Retired Maj. Gen. Eric Weller, Deputy Adjutant General - Veterans Affairs, served as the guest speaker. Commander James Vollrath of the American Legion, Department of Pennsylvania, was also in attendance. Ron Bradley, who officially became the lead pastor at New Life Assembly of God, has been visiting Lancaster for more than 30 years, but he never realized that he and his family, which includes his wife, Jemma, and son, Ian, would live in the county. “Lancaster is so peaceful. We would come here just to get away,” shared Bradley, adding that his family especially enjoyed visiting a local Christian theater on their visits. Bradley has been to Lancaster so many times that when a fellow pastor from the area contacted him in early May about an opening at New Life, he recalled the church with the large blue dove on the side he had seen when

Conestoga Valley High School, 2110 Horseshoe Road, Lancaster, will host its annual fall craft show on Saturday, Nov. 10, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. More than 60 vendors selling homemade soaps, jewelry, candles, and more will be featured at the show, located in the Rill Gymnasium.
