LMHS To Present “Seven Keys To Baldpate” By Ann Mead Ash

Dean Sauder, director of the Lancaster Mennonite High School (LMHS) production of “Seven Keys to Baldpate,” is at no loss for words when describing the show. “It’s mystery. It’s comedy. It’s melodrama. It’s farce,” stated Sauder, who added that the 1913 play by George M. Cohan has been on his shortlist for several years. With a cast of 18, an almost completely black-and-white set and costumes, and a couple of unexpected twists near the end, “Baldpate” will play in the LMHS Fine Arts Center, 2176 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster, at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25; Friday, Oct. 26; and Saturday, Oct. 27. The plot centers on writer William Magee, played by Noah Schnabel, who enters into a contest with his friend Irene Bentley, played by Grace Reinhart. See LMHS Play pg 2

Charitable Basketball Tournament To Benefit Lancaster Youths By Ann Mead Ash

When the Rotary Club of Lancaster/ Franklin & Marshall (F&M) College Charitable Basketball Extravaganza started nearly 40 years ago, the idea behind the event was to fill an empty spot in the January F&M basketball schedule. Bruce Holran, then F&M director of public relations, approached then school athletic director Dr. William Marshall with the idea to establish a four-team men’s collegiate basketball tournament early in January. The event would bring people to the college and raise funds for a local nonprofit organization. Since that time, the event has grown dramatically, now including eight top men’s and women’s NCAA Division III games. The men’s William Marshall See Basketball Tournament pg 10
