With the exception of a few laps walked by Keystone Pet Enhanced Therapy Services (KPETS) canines, dogs are not allowed to take part in Relay For Life events. But some Relay For Life team members wanted to hold an event where dogs could be featured. “Relay For Life (fundraisers are typically held) at a high school, and you can’t take your dog,” lamented Angie Woolf, a member of the Misfit Bankers team. “But more often than not, a dog is someone’s caregiver. “My favorite time of the auction is when we auction off the special projects,” said Cliff Martin, executive director at Woodcrest Retreat. “It is humbling to have people bid just to support the ministry with nothing to show for it but a tax-deductible receipt.” Martin noted that this year bidders will have the opportunity to donate funds for two special projects if they attend the annual benefit auction and Kids’ Camp Bonanza, which will be held on Saturday, Oct. 6, at Woodcrest Retreat, 225 Woodcrest Drive, Ephrata, beginning at 9 a.m. “This year we have trees and shrubs to finish the Indian Rock Center project and two golf carts to replace the two (we have) that are over 20 years old,” said Martin, who See Auction pg 3

To meet the growing need in the community, COBYS Family Services purchased a building on Murry Hill Circle in Lancaster and moved a number of staff to that location. Christened the Murry Hill Center, the building is the site of monthly foster parenting orientation classes, as well as adoption and foster care services.
When organizers of the Friendship Community 2018 fall banquet were searching for a keynote speaker, one staff member remembered that a friend of hers had heard “Chewbacca Mom” speak. “(The friend had) said, ‘This person is great, and she has a great message,’” recalled Kyle Gamble, marketing assistant at Friendship Community. “We were looking for someone to bring laughter and joy with a faith background,” added Gamble, noting, “This is a speaker (who) will be different from those we have had in the past.” Candace Payne, also known as “Chewbacca Mom,” filled the bill for Friendship organizers, who have engaged her to speak at the annual Friendship Community banquet on Thursday, Nov. 1, at the Shady Maple Banquet Center, See Friendship Dinner pg 4

There will be a beekeeping demonstration with a portable hive, and a cow will be on-site, allowing attendees to learn about the different products that her milk will produce. There will also be an opportunity to learn about hog butchering. Food may be purchased from vendors, and pumpkins may be bought from the patch to decorate.
Additionally, attendees will be able to try apple varieties and watch them get processed into apple butter, cider, and pies. Separate admission fees have been set for adults, for seniors age 65 and up, and for youths ages 6 to 11. Children age 5 and under will be admitted for free. All proceeds will benefit the museum. Situated on 100 acres, Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum is a living history
crossroads village that collects, preserves, and interprets the history and material culture of the Pennsylvania German community from 1740 to 1940. The museum is administered by the PHMC with the active support of the Landis Valley Associates, a registered charitable organization. The Veterans Honor Park of Lancaster County will benefit from Supercars for a Super Cause on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Benecon Group, 201 E. Oregon Road, Lititz (Neffsville). Proceeds will go to the Veterans Honor Park of Lancaster County, a permanent tribute to every generation of warriors in every branch of the United States military - Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard - being built in Warwick Township adjacent to Lititz Public Library. Supercars for a Super Cause will feature the public debut of the Lombardo Collection, a private landmark gallery of classic and modern European and American automobiles. Owned by U.S. Army Vietnam War veteran Sam Lombardo, the collection features a quartet of McLarens, starting with the 2009 McLaren Mercedes SLR 722S Roadster and leading to a 2018 McLaren 720S. Earlier models include a 1956 Austin Healey 100M, a 1964 Porsche 356C Cabriolet, and a 1967 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Roadster. Other marques on display will include Maserati, Aston Martin, and Ferrari. Additionally, the event will feature an all-Americanmade 2006 Ford GT-40 Heritage Edition, a road-going continuation of the original race machine that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans four consecutive times from 1966 to 1969. Making a cameo appearance with the Lombardo Collection will be the 2018 A.J. Foyt/ABC Supply No. 14 IndyCar. Light hors d’oeuvres will be available. The attire is casual. Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum, 2451 Kissel Hill Road, Lancaster, will host its annual Harvest Days festival from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 13 and 14. The venue will feature an assortment of educational activities, including a pumpkin patch, wagon rides, music, food, and demonstrations of historic crafts, trades, and farm chores. Harvest Days will feature demonstrations that tell the story of the historic harvest. After a fruitful summer, raw materials like apples, flax, wood, and hogs would be processed many times by hand - into usable products that would be used for food, warm clothing, or building materials. added that organizers hope to raise $5,000 for each special project. For this year’s live auction, organizers have gathered a variety of items to sell to the highest bidders, including two gift certificates toward orthodontic services, a new gas grill, an ice cream maker, home décor, fall plants, tools, and loaves of homemade bread. Gift certificates will be sold on a cash-andcarry basis throughout the day, with remaining certificates auctioned at 2 p.m. Kids’ Camp Bonanza activities will begin at 9 a.m., allowing parents time to enjoy the auction while their children take part in various activities at rotating stations. Martin noted that children will be able to take part in slingshot and archery activities, visit the animals at the camp’s Nature Shack, launch rockets, paint pumpkins, and more. Competitions will include a gelatin-eating challenge at 11 a.m. In the afternoon, the camp ballfield will be the site of several carnival-style
games. A bounce house and a barrel train ride will be on-site. There is a nominal charge to participate in the afternoon games. It is a tradition at Woodcrest to auction baked goods. Children who attend the event are encouraged to enter a baked good - such as a cookie, a cookie bar, a pie, or a cake - which will be judged for prize money. At 11:30 a.m., the sweet treats will be auctioned. The special baked goods sale gives children who attend camp at Woodcrest a way to help support the ministry. The event will feature a variety of food items throughout the day. Breakfast items, including pancakes, sausage, and quiche, will be sold beginning at 8 a.m. Bidders who register prior to 8:45 a.m. will receive a free cup of coffee and a doughnut. Foods that will be available for purchase in the food tent during the day will include chicken barbecue meals, baked potatoes with toppings, hot dogs, french fries, baked goods, beverages, and more.
The annual benefit auction attracts hundreds of visitors. Funds raised by the auction are used to offset expenses and help keep camp fees affordable for families. All families that send their children to Woodcrest will benefit from the fundraiser. Woodcrest is a nonprofit organization that provides yearly summer camp experiences for
more than 1,400 children on 110 acres of woodland. A family campground and year-round retreat facility are also available. Readers who would like to donate to the auction may call 717-738-2233. Doors will open at 6 p.m., and dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. Payne, of Grand Prairie, Texas, a wife and a mother of two, was shopping one day when she came across a mask depicting the hairy character from the “Star Wars” movies. “She bought it and put it on, and she (made a video and posted it to social media),” relayed Gamble. “She lost control and started laughing, and it took off from there.” According to some estimates, Payne’s video has been viewed more than 200 million times. Payne, who is a Christian and
an Ouachita Baptist University alumna, began making the rounds on television shows, and she began speaking about the subject of simple joys. “(Payne) focuses on the simple joys in life, how to achieve them and what she does to bring about simple joys,” said Gamble. “(Her speech is) about appreciating all the moments in life.” Payne also began writing about her experience, and she is now the author of two books: “Laugh It Up” and the recently released “Simple Joys.” She is also the creator of the small group curriculum “Defiant Joy” study guide.
In addition to the keynote speaker, Friendship will present two annual awards at the banquet. The Haverstick Award will be given to a Friendship client who has shown growth in giving back to the community, overcoming significant obstacles, and surpassed previous capabilities. The Gochnauer Award will be given to a direct support professional who has advocated for community inclusion to help individuals impact the world with their capabilities. Milt Stoltzfus, who serves as spiritual nurturer and community life coordinator, will work with Friendship clients at the banquet to share stories of their experiences at Friendship. On the menu for dinner will be hickory-smoked ham, stuffed chicken breast with gravy, mashed potatoes, glazed carrots, and green beans. The meal will begin with a salad and bread bar, and iced tea and coffee will be served. Dinner will conclude with a full dessert bar featuring an
assortment of sweet and sugarfree treats. The mission of Friendship Community, which is located at 1149 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, is to help individuals with disabilities impact the world with their abilities. To that end, the organization serves 120 clients in 24 group homes. Friendship offers two day programs, home-based services, and an apartment complex in Ephrata. There is no charge to attend the banquet, but seating is limited, and reservations must be made by Friday, Oct. 12. A freewill offering will be received at the event. Light the Night Lancaster and York will take place rain or shine on Friday, Oct. 5, at John Wright Restaurant, 234 N. Front St., Wrightsville. Registration will open at 5 p.m., and the opening ceremony will begin at dusk. The event will take place from 7:15 to 8:15 p.m. Light the Night takes place in 150 communities across the country. Family, friends, and coworkers gather together to celebrate, honor, and remember those touched by cancer. All participants carry illuminated lanterns in one of three colors: red lanterns are carried by supporters, white lanterns are carried by survivors, and gold lanterns are carried by those walking in memory of a loved one. Participants walk as individuals or as teams and corporations can get involved as a team or a sponsor. The walk route for the Lancaster and York event will be approximately 2 miles across the Veterans Memorial Bridge
(Route 462) spanning the Susquehanna River between Columbia and Wrightsville. Additional activities will include a Kids Zone and fireworks. Food will not be for purchase beyond what is available for Champions for Cures. Parking will be available on the grassy lot next to the restaurant. Dogs will not be permitted, but wheelchairs, strollers, and scooters will be allowed. All registered participants will receive a lantern. Registration is free, but walkers are encouraged to raise funds to support the mission. All participants who raise a set minimum amount will receive a T-shirt and food benefits. The 2018 Bark For Life of Lancaster will take place on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Manheim Township Park, 209 Petersburg Road, Neffsville. The event honors the lifelong contributions of canines to cancer survivors. Bark For Life came to Lancaster six years ago when the Captain Morgan Relay For Life team held the first event. When the Relay For Life Leadership Team took charge of the event, other Relay For Life teams began to participate. Bark For Life supports the American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Lancaster. Funds raised through the events helps support the American Cancer Society’s mission to save lives by funding research, supporting education efforts, and providing free information and critical services for cancer patients. “My
COBYS from pg 1 During the last few years, COBYS has grown extensively in response to the drug epidemic. “You read stories in the newspaper about people affected by the opioid crisis,” said Fitzkee, “but you don’t read about the children involved.” Fitzkee noted that many of those children go into foster care. “COBYS is trying to care for those children while their parents deal with those issues,” explained Fitzkee. In response to the crisis and to legislation that has resulted in more children going into foster care, COBYS has its increased staff - nearly doubling in size from early 2015 to January 2018 - and increased its organizational budget to more than $5 million. According to Fitzkee, the COBYS building at 1417 Oregon Road, Leola, which housed foster care, adoption, administration, and counseling, was getting a little overcrowded. “We had three to four people in offices, and we were shuttling (employees) to a church for parking because we didn’t have enough space for people coming for counseling (appointments),” said Fitzkee.
World War II Encampment Event Set LancasterHistory.org, 230 N. President Ave., Lancaster, will host a World War II Encampment on Saturday, Oct. 6, and Sunday, Oct. 7. The weekend will feature opportunities for visitors to talk with re-enactors, “Thank a Vet,” attend a period appropriate church service, and go swing dancing at a big USO dance, among many other activities throughout the weekend. On Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., visitors can walk the grounds of the Campus of History to view various educational World War II displays, talk with knowledgeable re-enactors, see what life was like at home during the 1940s
in the “Homefront” trailer, and view vintage vehicles. A “Thank a Vet” letter writing station will also be available throughout the weekend. Children are invited to write a letter to a veteran thanking them for their service. Supplies will be provided for free. Free swing dance lessons will be offered from 6:30 to 7 p.m. on Saturday. Visitors can stay and show off their dance skills at the evening’s USO at LHO Dance from 7 to 9 p.m. Lancaster History.org will recreate a classic USO dance with a live band, sweet treats, and some 1940s flair. 1940s attire is encouraged, but not required. “We were just running out of space.” Fitzkee said that COBYS engaged a local consulting group to determine the best way to move forward. “One of the things that came out of that process was that we began looking for a new building,” said Fitzkee. In January, COBYS purchased the building located at 444 Murry Hill Circle, Lancaster, and christened it the Murry Hill Center. “On Martin Luther King Day, we had 59 volunteers there removing carpet, sanding, priming, and painting for nearly 700 volunteer hours in renovations,” Fitzkee recalled. In February, COBYS adoption and foster care staff moved to the new building, and later the Family Life Education staff joined them at that location. COBYS administration remained in Leola, and the counseling center moved to the main floor of the Leola building. Fitzkee noted that COBYS also owns two buildings in Lancaster city, including one at 171 E. King St., where the organization’s Family Life Center offers parenting programs, and the permanency
unit at 134 E. King St., where a specialized foster care program operates in relationship with the Lancaster County Children and Youth Agency. “We work with (the county agency) to reunite children with birth parents when they can (or facilitate adoptions),” Fitzkee explained. An additional counseling center is located in the First United Methodist Church of Palmyra, where COBYS works in cooperation with Palmyra Caring Community. The same situations that have caused COBYS to expand the number of staff have also led to the need for more families willing to provide foster care. “The first step (for people) interested in becoming a foster parent or adopting through COBYS is to attend (a) free, no-obligation orientation (to) get an overview of what the process involves,” said Fitzkee. Introductory sessions are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Murry Hill Center. (Relay For Life) team is the Misfit Bankers,” explained Woolf. “But for Bark For Life, we are the Misfit Barkers.” According to Woolf, registration on the day of the event will begin at 8:30 a.m. At 10 a.m., there will be an opening ceremony to honor cancer survivors and caregivers, both human and canine. “We will take the opportunity to remember those we’ve lost,” said Woolf, who added that the ceremony is unifying. “There isn’t anyone who doesn’t know someone who has had cancer,” Woolf said. The somber ceremony will be followed by a type of pet parade. “ We do a Strut Your Mutt parade,” said Woolf. “(During the parade), people who register can be in the contest for biggest, smallest, cutest, (and more categories),” said Woolf. The strut will be followed by a game of musical sits and a pet trick contest dubbed Barks Got Talent. “Last year, George, a white Shih Tzu, won because
when you say ‘Fire,’ he stops, drops, and rolls,” said Woolf. “That was adorable.” Paula Auerbach, whose golden retriever Rylan is a KPETS dog, said that she got involved in Bark For Life after seeing how humans and dogs interacted when the KPETS dogs were allowed on the track at Relay For Life - Lancaster. “What was amazing to me was that during the Survivor Walk and the Caregiver Walk, there were so many people who broke ranks to hug the dogs,” she said. “People were so impressed.” Woolf added, “The dogs were very comforting to the survivors and the caregivers during their walk.” Woolf noted that past walks have attracted 80 to 100 walkers, but she hopes to see more this year. Past events have raised up to $10,000, and Woolf hopes to meet or exceed that goal this year, as well. There is a minimum per-dog registration fee to take part in Bark For Life. Rizzetta’s Tones Will Perform Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1905 Broad St., East Petersburg, will present the band Rizzetta’s Tones on on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 7 p.m. The event is part of the Music at Zion concert series. Rizzetta’s Tones is a Celtic American band, comprised of “fraternal twin� hammer dulcimers, silver flute, high and low whistles, and guitar. Other instruments include button accordion, melodica, Greek bouzouki, mandolin, autoharp, ukulele, as well as
bodhran, djembe, and other percussion instruments. All members sing lead and backing vocals on songs. The band’s repertoire includes music from Ireland, Scotland, and the U.S., drawing as well from the traditions of Sweden, Brazil, France, Hungary, and many other lands. A freewill offering will be received in support of future Music at Zion concerts. Additionally, the next Art at Zion exhibit will feature works by Ross Sachs.
Classes Designed For Students With Developmental Disabilities By Ann Mead Ash
Julie Haney, dance teacher with Cavod Academy, is excited to be instructing students in a new program the academy is developing for students with special needs. “Intro to Dance is for (students) age 13 and up,� said Haney, who has experience teaching students with developmental disabilities. Two classes, which are being held weekly, will explore a variety of types of dance. Students who take the class will have the opportunity to perform in Cavod’s annual recital. Intro to Dance classes are held on Mondays from 4 to 5 p.m. and on Thursdays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. at Cavod, 665 W. Main St., New Holland. Savannah Huyard is teaching one of the classes, and Haney teaches the other class. According to Connie Dienner, executive director with Cavod, the idea for the program grew out of caregiver Deb Bacon’s requests for a class. “(Bacon) brings her clients to Cavod, and she has asked us to (hold dance classes),� explained

Dienner, who added that seeing the value in each person is a foundational concept at the academy. “Cavod is a perfect place for (this) program because of the loving and accepting atmosphere here,� said Dienner. “No one will be treated differently. It’s about who you are as a person and not what you can or cannot do.� Twenty-two-year-old Lydia Leibee of New Holland has taken private dance lessons at Cavod for some time, but this fall as a member of the Intro to Dance program, she will take a class at Cavod for the first time. Lydia, who has taken worship dance with lyrical dance mixed in, shared that she loved taking lessons at the academy. “My teacher is awesome,� said Lydia, who noted that Huyard has been reassuring and always takes time to pray with her when she asks. Lydia’s mother, Helen, said that Lydia likes dancing because it gives her exercise and energy, but she added that the benefits are more than physical. “It has opened a window (for Lydia),� said Helen, who added that Lydia had always dreamed of becoming an Olympic gymnast. “Even though (Lydia) recognizes she can’t do gymnastics, her
(dance) recitals have been amazing.� Helen also spoke glowingly of Lydia’s experience meeting other students at Cavod. “She hasn’t had a lot of contact with other students, but when she has (met them), they have been welcoming and kind,� said Helen. “That doesn’t always come naturally, (so) that speaks highly of the academy, (and) it means so much to (Lydia).� Intro to Dance will delve into a number of types of dance, including jazz, modern, and hip-hop, but Haney said she plans to start with a focus on ballet. “Students will come in, stretch, work at the bar practicing positions and steps, (perform) some technical work, and then do across-the-floor progression type steps,� said Haney, who added that she plans to end each class with some imaginative guided dance to reinforce freedom and joy of movement. Dienner noted that the students with developmental disabilities taking private lessons have enjoyed their accomplishments. “The students ... here have just blossomed,� she said. “We thought, ‘Let’s start a program where they can learn to dance at a (comfortable) pace, with a goal of transitioning

Aubrey Kreider, director of marketing and communications at Lancaster Mennonite School (LMS), wants area residents to know that they need not have an affiliation with the school to attend the homecoming barbecue. “People who aren’t connected to the school should feel welcome to come to the barbecue,� said Kreider. New additions to the Friday night activities designed especially for children will include a hayride and face painting. Lancaster Mennonite School (LMS) will hold festivities on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 5 and 6, which will combine homecoming events with opportunities to invest in the futures of LMS students. The homecoming and Fall Festival fun will begin with children’s activities at 4 p.m. on Oct. 5, at the school’s Lancaster campus, 2176 Lincoln Highway East, Lancaster. A

Pennsylvania College of Art and Design (PCA&D) has announced the artists for the 2018 Mosaic Project, an annual multicultural exhibition and educational program for students and families in Lancaster County. Several public events for the Mosaic Project are planned at PCA&D, 204 N. Prince St., Lancaster. An artist lecture with Stan Squirewell will take place on Friday, Oct. 5, at 10 a.m. An opening reception with Maria Dumlao and Squirewell will be held on Oct. 5 from 5 to 9 p.m. An artist lecture with Dumlao will take place on Friday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m. The artwork will be on exhibit from Oct. 5 through Friday, Dec. 7. The project will feature Dumlao’s recent work, which explores individual and collective history as viewed through lenses of history, popular culture, mythic folklore, landscapes, and creatures. Squirewell’s work is multilayered and tackles themes such as race and memory through mythology, sacred geometry, and science.
Dumlao, a visual artist working in various combined media, including film, video, sound, photography, and installation, was born in the Philippines and immigrated to the U.S. with her family. She received a bachelor’s degree in studio art and art history from Rutgers College and a master’s degree in studio art at Hunter College CUNY. Dumlao is currently an associate professor at Bucks County Community College. Squirewell, a painter, photographer, and installation and performance artist, was born in Washington, D.C., and currently lives and works in New York City. He is a graduate of the Hoffberger School of Painting, where he studied with the late Grace Hartigan. Squirewell is the first winner of the Rush Philanthropic and Bombay Sapphire Artisan series. The Mosaic Project, held annually since 2009, is composed of two distinct, yet interconnected components: The Mosaic Project exhibition and educational programming for high school and junior high school students. Every year,
two nationally renowned artists are invited to participate in PCA&D’s Mosaic Project. These artists are selected for their commitment to creating highquality artwork, which explores themes of individual and cultural identity. The educational component of The Mosaic Project is specifically for high school and middle school students. High school students from the School District of Lancaster and the Pequea Valley School District will spend a full day at PCA&D with the Mosaic Project artists, as well as PCA&D faculty and students. A retired copy editor of a local newspaper will launch her book, “Keeping It Together: A Memoir of Familial Love and Acceptance,” at Community Mennonite Church of Lancaster, 328 W. Orange St., Lancaster, on Friday, Oct. 5, at 6:30 p.m. Marichelle Roque-Lutz started writing her memoir five years ago for her four daughters, and she waited two years for their
approval to publish it. The 300page memoir encompasses her life and those of her daughters in the Philippines, a three-year sojourn in Nigeria that separated her from two of her daughters, and the family’s reunification and assimilation into American life as immigrants. Roque-Lutz previously was an associate research editor of Chicago magazine. In the Philippines, she was editor of the
weekly magazine Woman’s Home Companion before marrying her second husband and immigrating to the United States in 1981. Now retired, she reads, writes, gardens, plays Scrabble as a rated member of the North American Scrabble Players Association, and sings with the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra Chorus. Schreiber Hosts Rubber Duckie Race Schreiber Pediatric held its 30th annual Rubber Duckie Race and Festival on Sept. 9. The event raised more than $115,000, which will go directly to support Schreiber’s array of therapy and educational services. This year’s Duckie Day at Lancaster County Central Park was curtailed because of heavy rain. Schreiber still managed a successful Duckie campaign because of higher-than-expected Duckie ticket sales and generous sponsorship support. Day-of sales fell short of the average total of $10,000 because of the weather, but supporters have helped erase that shortfall by making contributions after the event. The largest post-race gift came from Orrstown Bank, which had originally sponsored the event and sold tickets in its Lancaster County branches. Orrstown Bank contributed an additional $15,000. Donations can still be made via check or at www.schreiberpediatric.org/donate. This year’s event sold about 15,000 yellow and blue tickets. At the end of the festival, Schreiber ambassadors Kami Appleby,

In a Section One girls’ soccer match, Manheim Township posed a 2-0 victory over Penn Manor on Tuesday evening. The Blue Streaks improved their Lancaster-Lebanon League record to 2-2-1 (2-3-2 overall) with the shutout. Ali Quinn saved seven shots by the Comets, helping to cement a shutout. On the offensive end, Quinn’s teammates finally broke through the Manor defense with Caroline Wood’s goal 14 minutes into the second half.
Samantha Bennett added another goal with five minutes remaining in the game. Sydney Hoover provided an assist. “They were both very well-struck balls from the 30-yard range,� head coach Terry Law explained. “We have kids who can hit ‘em, we just don’t always get the open look.� Law mentioned that Township needed to make some halftime adjustments, which helped put the goal scorers in those scoring opportunities. “We struggled a little bit in the first
half to get ourselves going,� he said. “We weren’t playing the style that suits us - a lot of long balls rather than our style. “We made the adjustment at halftime and played particularly well after halftime,� he added. “We kept the ball on the ground and knocked it around more, creating and building more chances. When we build, our offense tends to function better.� Quinn played another excellent game on a drizzly Thursday night at Conestoga Valley. The Buckskins scored in the 18th minute for the only goal of the game in a 1-0 Section One win. However, Law remarked that the Streaks played a technically sound game. “That was probably the best total game we’ve played,� he said. “We dominated the time of possession and level of play. We just didn’t finish.
“They scored on a restart and we weren’t able to capitalize,� continued the coach. “Ali has been playing well for us.� Township suffered a non-league loss in overtime on Saturday at Lower Dauphin. Wood and Gabi Brown scored second half goals that actually put the Streaks ahead 2-1 with just over 12 minutes to play in regulation. The Falcons scored the equalizer late in the match and Mayson Light scored the game winner three minutes into extra time. “We weren’t able to close it out. It was a game we should have won,� said Law. As far as District Three Class-AAAA is concerned, the Streaks (3-4-2 overall) are holding on to the final spot with six more games to play, including four in the L-L League. “We are sitting right on number
16 and they take 16 [for district playoffs],� Law remarked. “We have been playing much better.� GOLF In the L-L League Championships, Township’s Ellen Wager came up just short in competing with Cocalico golfer Ammala Moua on Monday at Conestoga Country Club. Moua won the girls’ championship with a score of 81 – only one stroke ahead of defending champ Wager. Meanwhile Shaun Fedor earned aa individual title for the Blue Streaks who also won the team crown. Township compiled a team score of 318 as Fedor shot a 2-over-par 72. Penn Manor’s Logan Hess finished second with a 74. Brock Fassnacht shot a 77 to take third place. Hamilton Naughton scored 81 on the day. The MT junior finished eighth. Connor Strine was in a
four-way tie for 11th place, shooting an 83. Among the three other golfers with that score was sophomore teammate Sean Cliff. Graham Calhoun, who finished with a score of 84, was in the top 25 and made the District Three Class-AAA cut. Maire Chathasaigh and Chris Newman will perform a blend of traditional Irish, hot jazz, bluegrass and Baroque music on Friday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the Owen Salon at the Ware Center, 42. N. Prince St., Lancaster. The performance is co-presented with Susquehanna Folk Music Society. Chathasaigh is a traditional musician from Ireland. In 2001, she received Traditional Musician of the Year, a prestigious Irish music award, from Gradam Ceoil TG4. Chathasaigh began to play the harp at the age of 11. A West Cork background steeped in the oral tradition led her, while still a teenager, to develop new techniques that made it possible for the first time to play traditional music on the harp in a stylistically accurate way. She won the AllIreland and Pan-Celtic Harp Competitions several times and in 1985 recorded a harp album concentrating on traditional Irish dance music. Newman is an English master of the acoustic guitar, a composer, an arranger, and a record producer. He began to play guitar at the age

Road Scholar Transport (RST) won the championship of the Tri-County 50 and Over Senior Modified Men’s Softball League, started in 2013, a threepeat performance that earned the team its fourth championship in six years. Members include (from left) Joe Williamson, Ron Grant, Jim Weidemoyer, Chris Sanchez, Tony Zambino, Joe Bonavita, Ruben Torres, Randy Lane, Scott Ryan, Dan Yost, Dennis Shelly, Ken Romig, Wayne Taylor, Rick Lasak, and (not pictured) Jose Rodriguez. Up two games to one in the best-of-five series finals, RST generated 33 hits and outscored its opponent 23 to 4. Sanchez hit five for five. Zambino, Torres, and Yost added four hits each.
