Walk Aims To Raise Epilepsy Awareness, Research Funds

Aaron Wingert of Lancaster was 30 when he experienced his first epileptic seizure.

“Everything is normal in your life, and then you wake up in the back of an ambulance,” he said.

Nineteen-year-old Nadine DeBalko of Adamstown was diagnosed with epilepsy at age 12 and had to change her perceptions about the disorder.

“I thought it was just older people who had it,” she recalled.

Lancaster resident Kerri Michnya never remembers a time without seizures. She was diagnosed at age 10.

Now age 42, she has been seizure-free

for 11 years. Both Michnya’s and Wingert’s seizures are well-controlled by medication. DeBalko opted to have surgery two years ago to remove her amygdala, the area of the brain where her seizures were centralized. She considers herself cured.

“Epilepsy is a spectrum disorder,” Michnya explained. “It looks different and treatments are different in each person.”

Navigating life with epilepsy is challenging, the trio agreed. “There didn’t seem to be a lot of resources available,” Wingert said. “I saw my neurologist every six months, but they couldn’t help with the emotional aspect.” Thankfully, he said, he discovered the

In 2017, Woodcrest Retreat added a Kids Camp Bonanza, complete with camp-style activities for children, during its annual benefit auction. The activities, which feature a variety of stations, such as crafts, a nature lesson, and camp games, proved so popular, Woodcrest made them a regular part of the event. This year’s Bonanza will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and include regularly scheduled activities from 9 to 11 a.m. and carnival games for a nominal fee from 12:30 to 3 p.m.

Located in the courtyard of the Aspen personal care building at Landis Homes is a miniature setting that is home to a steam engine, three diesels, a trolley, two train stations, and a number of houses, churches, and businesses. “We call it the Garden Railroad Village,” said

“Celebrating Faith, Friendship, and Family” is the theme of the gala that Faith Friendship Ministries will host on Thursday, Oct. 10, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Star Barn, 1 Hollinger Lane, Elizabethtown.

“Our goal is to educate the community on who we are and what we do,” said executive director Gwen Didden.

Faith Friendship Ministries operates the personal care home Faith Friendship Villa, 128 W. Main St., Mountville, where 74 people live.

“We are probably Lancaster’s bestkept housing secret,” Didden asserted.

“On one hand, I’m glad, because that means we’re good neighbors (and not drawing a lot of negative attention). This is a spiritual community that provides housing. Our family members just happen to be low-income and have a mental health diagnosis.”

home. All of the family members - as residents are called - have limited incomes, and many have some kind of mental health challenge. Both men and women live at the villa, and their ages range between 32 and 90, with the average age in the mid50s. “These are people who have the desire to have a fulfilled life,” Didden said.

Care directors at the villa serve as case managers, working to get newcomers qualified to receive the government assistance for which they fit the criteria. The goal is to get their lives stable as soon as possible, so Faith Friendship Villa accepts individuals without the ability to pay. For qualified individuals, the home is reimbursed only $37 per day per person.

“Small personal care homes across the state are closing, but we’re able to survive because we’re nonprofit,” Didden commented. “If we didn’t have the ministry piece of this, we wouldn’t continue to be sustained.”

“Then Sings My Soul: Beloved Hymns and Songs Inspired by the Ministry of Billy Graham” will be presented by LeeP Productions LLC at locations across central Pennsylvania and beyond from Sunday, Sept. 29, through Sunday, Dec. 1.

“Then Sings My Soul,” an original musical presentation, will feature four professional vocalists from the Lancaster area - Bryson Buffington, Sarah Poague, Kat Prickett, and Ric Zimmerman - with Jon Rider as cover. Pianists will include Lynette Eby and Katrina King.

Highlighting historical musical moments of the 1950s and 1960s, the vocalists will perform hymns made famous by George Beverly Shea, Dale Evans and the ministry of the Rev. Billy

Graham. The program will include a look at the history behind some of the most famous hymns and songs of faith, most of which were made famous by, or written by people saved at, Billy Graham’s crusades. Featuring 30 favorites such as “How Great Thou Art,” “I’d Rather Have Jesus,” “His Eye Is on the Sparrow,” and “Just As I Am,” the program will also include an old-fashioned hymn sing.

The show will travel to churches and retirement communities in the Lancaster County area this fall, as well as to Lebanon, Carlisle, and the Johnstown area.

Admission is free at all locations, and reservations are not required. At the majority of performances, a freewill offering will be accepted, with a portion of the

WYPA Seeks New Members The Workshop for Young Performing Artists (WYPA) seeks new members for its 2019-20 season. WYPA is one of the student organizations of the Musical Art Society, a member of the National Federation of Music Clubs. Its purpose is to provide opportunities for serious young musicians to develop performance experience in stage presence, concert demeanor, and

verbal and musical presentation.

By recommendation of their teacher or one of the WYPA counselors, membership is extended to qualified students between the ages of 10 and 19. Monthly meetings are held on the third Sunday of the month from 3 to 5 p.m. in September, October, November, January, February, and March.

Public recitals are held in December, April,

and June. Students will perform classic piano or instrumental works they are studying and receive constructive feedback from counselors and students.

Suicide Prevention Lecture Slated The Suicide Prevention Coalition of Lancaster County will host an educational presentation by the Lancaster/Lebanon staff from the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs. The program will be held from noon to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26, at Lancaster Vet Center, 1817 Olde Homestead Lane, Suite 207, Lancaster.

The presentation will provide an overview of the services offered at the Lancaster and Lebanon Veteran Centers. It will discuss the option of Mental Health America’s free guidance and support available to help navigate residents through the mental health system locally, including how to access local support services, as well as crisis intervention teams, that work within in the county.

“The need is great,” Didden observed.

“We’re getting calls from retirees who move here and have siblings or children with mental illness. When they can no longer be caregivers, what can they do with (their loved ones)? We may need to be the premier agency for this issue.”

Didden expressed a hope that by creating a signature event, more people will learn about Faith Friendship Villa and support its ministry through finances or volunteerism. There are many volunteer opportunities at the villa, and training is provided. Among other tasks, volunteers may help to serve dinner, paint fingernails, and mend clothing or sew on buttons.

The gala will open at 5:30 p.m. so guests may tour the barn. Dinner will begin at 6 p.m., and diners will be treated to a buffet that will include artisan cheeses, candied bacon skewers, spanakopita triangles,

Kim was married to country and pop musician Glen Campbell for 34 years until Glen’s death in August of 2017, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. The documentary “Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me” shared the family’s journey and opened a national conversation about Alzheimer’s. Determined to help other families on the same journey, Kim founded CareLiving.org to encourage caregivers to take care of themselves and to improve the quality of life of families living with dementia through education, advocacy and real-world change.

A Monument Conservation Workshop will be offered on Wednesday, Oct. 2, through Friday, Oct. 4, at the historic Lancaster Cemetery, 205 E. Lemon St., Lancaster. Through a mutually beneficial project, grave marker enthusiasts, preservation advocates, and conservation specialists will have the opportunity to share their time, talent, and skills while making a difference at Lancaster Cemetery.

Preservationist and conservator Robert Mosko will lead this hands-on workshop daily from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Lancaster Cemetery. Participants will be introduced to the baseline knowledge, theory, techniques, and materials that underpin gravestone preservation.

The collaboration will also include hands-on training in cleaning headstones, repair practices, and resetting fallen monuments. People of all skill levels are welcome.

The annual benefit auction attracts hundreds of visitors. Funds raised by the auction are used to offset expenses and help keep camp fees affordable for families. All families that send their children to Woodcrest will benefit from the fundraiser because summer camp prices are set at 75 percent of actual costs. Woodcrest is a nonprofit organization that provides summer camp experiences yearly for more than 1,500 children on 110 acres of woodland. A family campground and yearround retreat facility are also available.

Foundation’s Fundraisers Lead To Treatment Hope

Walk To End Epilepsy from pg 1 challenges, Wingert suggested: the seizures themselves and the side effects of the treatments available. The uncertainty of the disorder, the restriction from driving and from certain occupations, and the financial costs of medication, ambulance rides, and hospital stays can create a lot of stress. For people like Wingert who have idiopathic seizures, stress can trigger more seizures. Thus, having a community of understanding people is hugely important.

Michnya is EFEPA’s Lancaster County resource coordinator. She coordinates a support group and other programs to ensure people with epilepsy have the encouragement, guidance, and information they need. “My job allows me to give back,” she said. “I feel really fortunate.”

Michnya is also helping to coordinate Lancaster County’s inaugural Walk to End Epilepsy along with Wingert and DeBalko, who are both volunteers.

Wingert had attended a version of the event in Philadelphia and was so

impressed by the camaraderie and sense of community among the participants that he suggested that it be brought to Lancaster.

“It was more than time to have it here,” Michnya said. “It sends a great message: You are not alone in your diagnosis.”

The Walk to End Epilepsy will be held at the Lancaster Barnstormers’ stadium, 650 N. Prince St., Lancaster, on Saturday, Oct. 12. Registration will open at 9 a.m., the walk will begin at 10 a.m., and the event will conclude by noon. Both DeBalko and Wingert are slated to speak during the opening ceremony. The walk will mimic Philadelphia’s event by taking place inside the stadium. “It really brings the community together,” Wingert said of keeping the event contained.

The event is family focused, so there will be activities for children throughout the morning. These include entertainment by a magician, face painting, balloon sculpting, and play on an inflatable slide.

Refreshments will be provided at the event, and an afterparty will be held at Yorgos, 66 N. Queen St., Lancaster. There will also be opportunities to win gift cards and other prizes at the walk. Additionally, vendors will be on hand to offer information about pharmaceuticals, CBD, and more.

The Walk to End Epilepsy will be held rain or shine. There is no charge to attend the event, but fundraising is encouraged.

A minimum fundraising amount has been set to receive an event T-shirt. Proceeds from the walk will fund research into treatments and cures as well as resources for people with the disorder.

Gala To Build “Foundations For Transformation”

The fourth annual gala to benefit Mom’s House of Lancaster will be held on Friday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. at Lancaster Country Club, 1466 New Holland Pike, Lancaster. The theme will be “Foundations for Transformation.”

“If you don’t have a good foundation, it sets you up for a life of poverty,” explained Dawn Wardell, data management specialist and educator at Mom’s House, 415 S. Queen St., Lancaster.

Since 1991, Mom’s House has provided free child care and other support services to single parents while they attend school full time in hopes that completing their education will help the parents find meaningful and gainful employment.

“Mom’s House is a transformational organization, not a transactional one,” Wardell said. “Parents do not give us a dime for anything. We’re walking alongside of them, doing it with them as much as we can. We’re a big family.”

Just as in a family, the parents who are accepted into the program have chores that they are responsible to complete.

They are required to be in class or studying for at least 20 hours a week, receive good grades, perform several hours of service at Mom’s House - such as cleaning toys, serving meals, or sorting donations each week, and attend parent meetings.

During the meetings, parents receive enrichment, oftentimes through life skills training they might need. Wardell noted that because the fall school semester just began, time management has been a popular topic. A single mother whose children are older teaches that class.

Wardell noted that the benefits to parents are extensive. Mom’s House is a four STARS accredited child care center, serving youngsters from 6 weeks to 6 years.

The organization prefers children stay at Mom’s House at least 20 hours a week for stability and for nutrition. For many youngsters, the meals they eat at Mom’s House are the only ones they get during the day. Parents also have access to an onsite food bank, a children’s clothing bank, mentoring, referral services, resume and interview training, career planning, prayer, encouragement, and support.

“This is a great resource,” said Lauren Lesher, who participates in Mom’s House with her 16-month-old daughter. “It gives me time to go out and do what I need to do, to study.”

Last year’s gala raised money to purchase equipment for the infant/toddler playground. This year’s gala will help to buy items on the wish list. All parents have access to computers, a printer, a laminator, and school supplies like pens and pencils, notebooks, sticky notes, and index cards in the parent resource center.

It has been eight years since Samantha Brazzo, now an 11-year-old in West Hempfield Township, was diagnosed with limbgirdle muscular dystrophy type 2i (LGMD2i), a rare and progressive form of muscular dystrophy. At the time, treatments and cures were wished for, but awareness of the disorder was minimal, and research was nearly nonexistent. To change that and to improve the lives of Samantha and others with LGMD2i, Samantha’s parents, Keith and Kelly Brazzo, formed what is now the Cure LGMD2i Foundation.

In those eight years, the Brazzos’ foundation has awarded more than $550,000 in research grants, with $116,500 distributed in the last year. The foundation has supported 26 different programs, and two significant treatments are on the horizon.

“People talk about ‘one of these days,’ but that day has come,” said Kelly, who is the foundation’s president and CEO. “It’s about to take off. We’re pretty thrilled, to say the least.”

This past Labor Day weekend, the foundation co-sponsored the first National LGMD Conference in Chicago, which turned into an international event, thanks to the magic of social media. More than 400 people representing greater than 20 countries attended the conference, where they discussed various aspects of life with

and research into the more than 30 types of limb-girdle muscular dystrophy. “If we all come together, we’re more appealing to drug companies, and we benefit from building community,” Kelly remarked.

Kelly related that she was especially touched by meeting a 17-year-old boy from the Netherlands who was the first person to be successfully treated in a clinical trial four years ago. “I just lost it. I bawled,” Kelly said. “I’ve been telling Sammy for years, ‘You will get better.’ I’ve been cautiously optimistic, but now I have data.”

Also in attendance at the conference were two companies, ML Bio Solutions and AskBio, that are gearing up for human trials of promising treatments. ML Bio Solutions has identified a sugar molecule missing in people with LGMD2i, and the trial of a medication to replace it will begin at the end of October. The Cure LGMD2i Foundation has supported the research into the medication.

AskBio is preparing for a clinical trial with gene therapy. Researchers are predicting that this treatment will work well with ML Bio Solution’s product and the combination will essentially be the cure for LGMD2i. In the event of successful trials, it can take five years to bring the treatments to market, but Kelly is encouraged by the progress.

“Dreams are coming true,” Kelly commented. “Eight years ago, these are things we never would have thought

Wardell noted that Rivera was raised by a single mother who took him to school with her. Rivera is slated to talk about how twogeneration education is important and how it laid the groundwork for his career.

A social will be held immediately following the gala.

Resurrection School Holds Picnic Resurrection Catholic School began the year with a picnic in the recess lot on Aug. 25, giving families and staff members an opportunity to reconnect the day before school began.

This year, the decades-long picnic tradition included magician Erick Hershey.

Hershey has performed for 34 years, ever since his parents bought him a magician’s suitcase at a yard sale when he was 10.

Hershey performed as he strolled amidst the families of students and staff members as they shared a meal provided by the school and desserts they had brought for each other.

Quilters, crafters, and all others interested in the arts are invited to attend the Quilt Show and Artisan Market (QSAM) hosted by the Lancaster Modern Quilt Guild (LMQG) on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Manor Church, 530 Central Manor Road, Lancaster. “Sew You Want to Create a Modern Quilt” will be taught by LMQG past presi-

dent Kathy Dunkle from 9 to 11:30 a.m. “(It) may appeal to those who are new to modern quilting or those who would like to stretch themselves with new ideas in creating a modern quilt top,” Althouse said. “Participants will be sewing with Berninas supplied by Hinkletown Sewing, one of our vendors.”

Award-winning quilter Cindy Carey will take students through her design process in the class “Quilting a Modern Quilt,” which will run from noon to 2:30 p.m. Althouse noted that this class might appeal to newcomers to quilting as well as those who would like more ideas on how to quilt the completed top.

used to support LMQG programs and charity projects. Brethren Disaster Relief Auction Slated The 43rd annual Brethren Disaster Relief Auction, known as the largest disaster relief auction in the world, will be held at the Lebanon Valley Expo Center, 80 Rocherty Road, Lebanon, on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 27 and 28, beginning at 9 a.m.

The auction, in cooperation with the Atlantic Northeast and Southern districts of the Church of the Brethren, began in 1977 and has provided more than $16 million in disaster relief to victims of natural disasters both in the U.S. and internationally. Funds raised by the auction not only pay for emergency supplies for disas-

ter victims, but also support volunteer disaster relief trips throughout the year.

In the past few years, funds and volunteers from the auction have helped immediate relief efforts and long-term cleanup and rebuilding in response to disasters ranging from earthquakes in Haiti to a tornado in Campbelltown.

Separate auctions will include the general auction, the children’s auction, the quilt auction, the theme basket auction, the silent auction, the heifer auction, the coin auction and two pole barn auctions.

The two-day event may have as many as five auctions taking place at once.

In recognition of National Hunger Action Month in September, Giant Food Stores announced that its customers raised $780,676 to support local hunger relief efforts during the biannual Bag Hunger campaign. The company’s Bag Hunger campaign ran from Aug. 25 through Sept. 7 across all Giant and Martin’s stores.

According to Feeding America, each dollar raised helps to provide at least 10 meals, meaning that the funds raised during Giant’s Bag Hunger campaign will fund more than 7.8 million meals. Funds raised during the campaign go to more than 100 hunger-relief partners, including food pantries across Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Creative Works of Lancaster will present a special night of theater, “The 24 Hour Plays: Lancaster,” on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. at The Stone Independent School, 480 New Holland Ave., Lancaster.

This is the ninth year for “The 24 Hour Plays: Lancaster,” a project that has inspired 62 new works and has brought hundreds of local and regional theater artists together.

Six writers, six directors, 25 actors, and one production team will write, rehearse, and perform six short plays in a 24-hour period. The process will begin on the evening of Friday, Oct. 4, with writers choosing actors from a pool of talent. “Showcase In Sight And Sound” Planned Manheim Township High School (MTHS), 115 Blue Streak Blvd., Lancaster, will host its annual Showcase in Sight and Sound, which has been held for more than 40 years, on Saturday, Sept.

28, beginning at 6 p.m. For the past six years, as a member of the Lancaster County Marching Band Coalition, the Manheim Township marching band has been participating in and hosting adjudicated, noncompetitive showcases, with the prior 34-plus years of marching band history as a competitive band.

According to Landis, the 25-by-50foot area that now holds the tracks and trains was a lot smaller when the club first laid it out in 2005. “(We started) with a couple of tracks and a minimal amount of money,” recalled Landis, who added that the club has expanded the layout significantly. “I have been here four years, and we have added many buildings and four trains in that time.”

G-gauge trains, which can be used indoors as well, travel on approximately 300 feet of track. One of the diesels pulls a passenger car, and another pulls freight cars. The third pulls coal cars and a whimsical Lifesavers car. The trolley makes regular stops, but sometimes a club member replaces the trolley with a brightly colored ladybug that zips around the tracks. The trains whistle, and the bells ring.

Buildings that were not constructed by club members are German made, and some are ceramic. The layout includes a miniature replica of the Lancaster train station, along with a tiny Harrisburg station. Kim Klinepeter of Mechanicsburg, daughter of club member Bruce Allison, is working on a replica of Hans Herr House for the garden. There is a mill at the east end of the layout, and a water tank is available to service the steam engine.

Throughout the garden, most of the

vegetation is natural to the area, with moss mixed in with the plants. A few of the plants surrounding the pond are artificial. “We have a fountain and a couple of fishermen there,” said Landis. “There’s a gazebo.”

The garden opens in May and closes in October. During the regular season, the garden is generally open Tuesdays through Saturdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. It is also open for special occasions, such as Father’s Day, Mother’s Day, and Grandparents’ Day. Club member John Buckwalter has done the math to calculate how far the trains travel during a typical season. “They run approximately from Landis Homes to Des Moines, Iowa, or Halifax, Nova Scotia, or Tampa, Fla.,” said Buckwalter. “(That’s) 1,023 miles per season.”

GIRLS’ TENNIS Township continued to dominate with three more shutout wins this past week. The Streaks blanked Donegal 7-0 in a non-league tennis match on Monday, shutout Exeter 5-0 the next day and posted a 7-0 win

against Section One foe Cedar Crest on Friday afternoon.

The Streaks came into the Cedar Crest match with an 8-0 record. They improved their L-L League mark to 5-0 with that win (9-0 overall).

Avery Palandjian, Scotland Reynolds, Kayla Kurtz and Julia Briner were each involved in obtaining two team points in the Crest match. Palandjian and Reynolds partnered for an 8-1 win at first doubles while Briner paired up with Camielle Henneman for the second doubles, winning 8-1. Kurtz and Sarah Pestana won by a shutout at third doubles.

Palandjian won her singles match 6-1, 6-0. Reynolds won the number two singles 6-2, 6-0 while Kurtz (6-0, 6-0) and Briner (6-1, 60) also won in straight sets.

was a 3-singles, 2-doubles format.

The Blue Streaks defeated Ephrata on Monday evening in a Lancaster-Lebanon League field hockey game at home. The victory evened Manheim Township’s league record at 3-3-0 as the Streaks improved to 4-5-0 overall.

They kept the shots coming against Mountaineers goalie Anika Galen (13 saves) to the count of 18 shots on goal.

The big culprits were Rea Fox, who scored twice in the second half, and Kayte Moist, who scored at the 3:12 mark of the first half and again at 17:52.

Leading 2-0 at the half on Moist’s goals, the Streaks scored three times in the second half, including a goal by Sophia Rockwell, who also assisted on another.

Also chipping in with assists were Keliah Santiago and Abby Laubch.

Vanessa Daniels earned the shutout, having to make only one save.

The Streaks bounced right back with a 5-0 trouncing of Crest on Friday. There were two sets of goals scored within a short period of each other. With the score 1-0 at the half on Robbie Irizary’s goal, the Streaks doubled the lead on a goal by Beers at the 45-minute mark. Irizary made it 3-0 one minute later.

Winning 3-0, Pierson converted on two more opportunities within three minutes of one another, scoring in the 72- and 75-minute junctures.

Beers, Baylor Zerbe, Andrew Sheehan, and Jake Whitaker each registered an assist. McCarty made three saves for the shutout.

The Township defense held Crest to one shot on goal - a shot which Ali Quinn obviously saved. The assault on the Falcons’ net netted goals by freshmen Liza Suydam and Eloise Warfel, and another by junior Emma Hagg.

Caroline Wood dished out two assists.

Chloe Miller was also credited with an assist.

Two more freshmen led the scoring on Monday. Anika Krasnai scored a first-half goal and Jada Tuner scored 17 minutes into the second half while Wright and sophomore Noa Blumenthal each notched an assist.

Professor emeritus Al Schaub will continue his book discussion series that started with “Paul Among the People” by Sarah Ruden. Part two of “The First Hundred Years of Christianity: An Era of Clashing Cultures, Then and Also Now” will be held in room 103 on the lower level of Lititz United Methodist Church, 201 E. This program will present a behavioral science model of culture conflict combined with an exploration of Greco-Roman, Christian and Jewish cultural attributes of the era being discussed. Lutheran Church Plans Pet Celebration Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 3131 Columbia Ave., Lancaster, will host its fourth annual Community Pet Celebration Day along with a Blessing of the Animals service on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

According to the Rev. Clifton D. Eshbach, pastor of Holy Spirit, the event is a time to celebrate pets and the love they give their owners. “We want to share with our neighbors a fun event that will celebrate the happiness pets provide and to give them a blessing for the coming year,” he said, adding that more than 100 people and their furry, feathered, and scaled friends

participated in the event last year.

Each family in attendance will receive a free “pet pouch” that will include items for both animals and owners. Door prizes for children and adults will be awarded following the Blessing of the Animals service, which will take place at noon. Volunteers will be available to assist families with their pets and offer tours of the church. While at the event, every pet must be kept on a leash or harness or be stowed safely in a crate.

Additionally, a diverse group of nonprofit organizations will provide presentations and information about their organiza-

tions. Groups slated to be represented include VisionCorps, Personalized Greyhounds Inc., Keystone Pet Enhanced Therapy Services (KPETS), UDS Service Dogs, Pet Pantry of Lancaster County, Delaware Valley Golden Retriever Rescue, the Lancaster unit of the Pennsylvania SPCA, and the Lancaster Spinners and Weavers Guild.

“This is the largest group of organizations we have had in the four years of this event,” Eshbach remarked. “Over the years, this event has become a ‘one-stop shop’ for the community to learn about these important organizations that provide wonderful services in our area.”

The pet celebration will also include a petting zoo and games for children. Refreshments will be available for purchase from Nanalyn’s Full-Filling Feasts.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone for a happy, enjoyable day with our pets,” Eshbach said.

October MT School Board Meetings

The MTHS Homecoming football game will be played on Friday, October 11th at 7:00 pm at War Memorial Stadium vs. Cedar Crest High School.

MTHS Athletic Hall of Fame On Friday, September 13, 2019 the Manheim Township High School inducted three alumni into the Athletic Hall of Fame during the home football game against Penn Manor High School. The Class of 2019 inductees were Dan DeMasters, Class of 2004 (soccer); Alexandra Leslie Class of 2014 (basketball); and Matt Grossman Class of 2014 (wrestling).

Alexandra was unable to attend the ceremony.

The October School Board of Directors Work Session will be held on Thursday, October 10th at 7:00 pm in the District Office Boardroom. The School Board Voting Meeting will be held on October 17th at 7:00 pm in the District Office Boardroom. Agendas are posted the week of the meetings on the district’s website.

MT School Board Saturday Morning Conversations The MT community is invited to attend the Manheim Township School Board Community Conversations held at the District Office from 10:00 am-12:00 pm on designated Saturdays throughout the year.

The informal drop-in sessions are informational and conversational in nature to provide the community the opportunity to meet representatives from the MT School Board and discuss important topics related to MT schools. The dropins are held on the Saturday morning between the School Board Work Sessions and Board Action Meetings.

The following is a list of all sessions that is scheduled for the Fall of 2019. Members of our community are invited to attend.
