Jennifer Cavalcante is a photographer. “I (take pictures) of (wildlife), animals, and people,” explained Cavalcante, as she held a print of flowers so vividly hued the piece resembles a painting. “(This photograph) is printed on watercolor paper, and the paper makes (the colors) really pop,” she said. Cavalcante will be one of nearly 50 professional artists who will take part in the Landis Woods Outdoor Fine Art Show that will be held rain or shine on the Boettcher House Museum grounds on Saturday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. An art walk, which will feature about a dozen high school artists, will be open from noon until 3 p.m. on the day of the show. Items that artists and craftspeople will bring to sell at the show will include jewelry, mixed media, abstract art, landscapes, watercolor paintings, and
more. The show is billed as a child-friendly and pet-friendly event. Artist Paris Llanso, known for her distinctive paintings featuring bright colors and large amounts of oil paint sculpted with a palette knife, will showcase her work including a painting of a birch tree she refers to as her “Skittles tree” because she used all the hues of the fruity candy in the piece. Lisa Madenspacher has turned her interest from goats, which she featured at the 2017 show, to pool, with a painting of oversized brightly colored billiard balls being among the pieces she will bring to the show. “I am continually inspired by my environment,” said Madenspacher. “I see composition,” she added, noting that she was invited to a dinner party and noticed the pool table at the venue. “Wherever I go, I am observant of my environment,” she stated. Artists and musicians who will be among many to participate in the 2018 Landis Woods Art Show on Sept. 29 include (from left) Paris Llanso, Jennifer Cavalcante, Stephen Gambone, Lisa Madenspacher, and John Beaumont.
Area Youths Invited To Participate Reasons To Celebrate In Annual Triathlon By Ann Mead Ash
One reason Simon Ababou, fitness director with the Lititz recCenter, likes organizing the annual youth triathlon is because of the many benefits the activity offers the children who participate. Ababou pointed out that swimming, cycling, and running are all cardio workouts, but they each require different types of breathing. He added that children can learn from taking part in the triathlon as well. “(The triathlon) teaches patience, helps (participants learn) transitioning from one activity to another, (and helps children) learn to follow directions as they go from challenge to challenge,” said Ababou. The 12th annual youth triathlon will
