GOTR To Screen Film Focused On Anxiety Free Link To Connect Families To “Angst” BY ANN MEAD ASH
Sarah Yohe, development director with Girls on the Run (GOTR), has an analogy concerning the different types and levels of anxiety people are feeling in relation to the pandemic. “We are all in the same storm, but we all have our own individual boats with their own holes in them that we are trying to keep plugged to stay afloat,” she said. To address that anxiety and provide a service to Lancaster-area GOTR members, the organization is providing a free link to the film “Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety” Thursday through Saturday, Oct. 8 to 10. The initial live event will begin at 7 p.m. on Oct. 8. “The GOTR team will open up the evening by sharing our mission and our reasons for hosting this event,” said Yohe. Following the opener, the 56-minute documentary will be shown, and then a live, half-hour discussion with approximately four panel members from related fields, such as psychology and pediatrics, will be held. Audience members will be able to submit questions to the panel. During the next two days, GOTR members and their families will have the option to watch the entire event via the link. The documentary, which was produced by IndieFlix, utilizes interviews with children and teenagers to explore the facets of anxiety and how it impacts relationships, along with offering possible solutions. Olympic athlete Michael Phelps is interviewed, as are mental health experts. “‘Angst’ opens up the conversation about anxiety,” said Yohe, who added that the film fits with the curriculum of the weekly GOTR team meetings. “We provide a really safe space for our girls to sit and talk about their emotions and name their emotions,” she said. “When we saw this documentary, we realized that this is a (way to) engage our Girls on the Run - Lancaster, a youth development program, will host a free virtual forum and film,

Spencer Browne (left) and Jayna Ribner are part of Pandemic of Love’s Lancaster chapter. The new organization was designed to match donors with those affected by the pandemic to help cover utility bills and other needs.
Looking back at the abrupt changes he dealt with last March when COVID-19 restrictions temporarily closed the state, Spencer Browne, now a senior at The Stone School in Lancaster, was philosophical. “When something as shocking as a pandemic happens, there are many different ways to (react),” noted Spencer. “I think it consumes a lot of people and they are stuck in shock about the world being so different they can’t do anything … but we saw it as an opportunity to help people who are in that stasis.”
