Among the artists taking part in the show will be Stephen Gambone, who has often brought cityscapes to the interviews for my articles over the years. This year, Gambone brought the colorful “City Over the Water,” which he called a more abstract cityscape. The painting features bright aqua, red, yellow, and blue in a piece that shows both the outline of the city and its upsidedown reflection in a body of water.
“(The paint is) super hard but still flexible,” she said.

Amijah is also unusual because she has a rare disease called chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO), which attacks her bones. One of fewer than 500 people in the world with CRMO, Amijah, who was diagnosed in June, will need monthly infusions at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to help keep her bones from becoming damaged, deformed, or broken. While CRMO can go into remission, Amijah expects to fight the rest of her life to avoid becoming disabled.

We are trying to help the families who need (help) with expenses.”
will begin around 1 p.m. Tickets, which are necessary to attend, will be discounted through Saturday, Sept.

Amijah24. was diagnosed at Hershey Medical Center after experiencing back pain. “She was inconsolable,” said Ashley, who tried warm baths to alleviate her daughter’s discomfort. “There was nothing I could do.” Amijah’s primary care physician took Xrays. “They thought she had a fracture in her lower back,” said Ashley, who asked for more testing. Amijah was sent to Hershey, where lesions were found on her back and legs. Since then, Amijah has had two MRIs, and she will be going to Iowa to visit the only CRMO specialist in the U.S. “Infusions and treatments will give her a chance to live a more normal

The Lancaster County Recovery Alliance organizes the day in cooperation with the 521 Club, a Lancaster sober club. The 521 Club coordinates the event’s Recovery Rocks! Concert, where Octavia Blues Band, known for its blues rock and roll style, will be the featured attraction.

Participants are welcome to bring their own picnic lunch if they wish, as well as blankets, chairs, and lawn games. This is a dog-friendly event, so dogs are also welcome.
Lunch tickets are available for purchase for an all-you-can-eat barbecue prepared by Bellys BBQ and Burritos with fixings or a boxed vegan lunch.

The planned motorcycle ride will take a scenic route. “It’s prettier with the fall foliage coming out,” said Ashley, who noted Amijah enjoys the beauty of nature. “She likes pretty stuff. She will point out a pretty sunset to me,” said Ashley. Part of the ride will be a stop at The Udder Choice in Ephrata. “We will have a little surprise for her during the ride,” said Ashley. “Udder Choice will open up for us to come for ice cream.” Ashley said that Amijah and her brother will arrive in separate cars donated by BDR Automotive of New Holland, where they will meet up with the motorcyclists. Back at the Elks Lodge following the ride, a meal at the pavilion will include hot dogs, broasted chicken from Bright’s restaurant, chips, salad, and baked beans.

The annual Kensill Fund for Hope Auction will be held at Leola UMC, 7 W. Main St., Leola, on Saturday, Sept. 24. A chicken barbecue will be held in the parking lot from 9 a.m. to noon, and the auction will begin at noon. The event is open to the public.

Among the many items that will go across the auction block are a wooden cradle, dishes, plants, decorative items, needlework, jewelry, toys, games, books, school supplies, quilts, gift baskets, baked goods, and vacation getaways. Yohe reported that hot dogs, chips, beverages, and whoopie pies will be sold during the Accordingauction.toYohe, the Kensill Fund was started in 1995, with the first student gifts awarded in 1996. The fund is named for the Rev. Frank Kensill, who served Mid-Town Parish in North Philadelphia from 1957 through 1996. The national UMC body encouraged churches to work with other local churches to help each other out. Leola became a sister church to Mid-Town, with members traveling to Philadelphia to paint and help repair the gym floor. Charles Koon, a member of Leola UMC, and Kensill wanted to help children of Mid-Town to further their education. “They started a number of programs,” said Yohe, who noted that an after-school program involved students from Temple University acting as mentors. One of these programs was the fund that would help provide monetary gifts for students who wanted to attend college or technical school after high school. “The first gifts
“People have started bringing in (items), but it’s not organized yet,” said Mary Yohe, chair of the Leola United Methodist Church (UMC) mission committee, referring to the items that have been donated so far for the church’s annual auction, which benefits students wishing to pursue education after high school. Yohe added that donations from the business community, usually in the form of gift cards, will also be sold.

Yohe noted that students from the Mid-Town area must participate with the church in some way to be eligible to apply for funds. “They must be enrolled (at a college or technical school), and they must submit financial statements,” she explained, adding that yearly giving is capped at $5,000. “If six apply and all qualify, the money is divided,”
