Fellowship Day To Support Caring Fund By Ann Mead Ash

Landis Homes’ Caring Fund, which has now existed for 25 years, was founded to provide benevolent care for residents who have exhausted their finances. The annual Landis Homes Fellowship Day event raises money to help support the caring fund, and residents of the community often contribute auction items for the event. Landis Homes is located at 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz. For the 2019 Fellowship Day, which will kick off at 7 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14. Residents Susan Fast, Jake Dagen, and Fred and Eleanor Honaman all donated items to be sold at auction. The silent and gift basket auctions will open at 8 a.m., and the live auction will start at 9 a.m. See Fellowship Day pg 8

Displaying items they will donate to the Landis Homes Caring Fund auction, which will be held during Fellowship Day at Landis Homes on Sept. 14, are (from left) Susan Fast, Jake Dagen, and Eleanor and Fred Honaman. The day will also include food and a variety of flea markets.

Not The Last Dance By Ann Mead Ash

Doris Kreiter of Lititz is not happy that her husband, Dave, is retiring - even though Dave is 83. “I hate to see him retire because we have a good time,” said Doris, referring to her husband giving up calling square dances, which he has been doing since the mid-1970s. The pair founded the Swing Thru Square Dance Club in 1974. Doris is still looking forward to the last two fun nights of calling that Dave has on his schedule. Although Dave is retiring, the club he and Doris founded is still going strong, and members are excited to teach square dancing to the next generation. In fact, the club will offer two free introductory nights for those who are interested in learning a bit about this form of dance. The club invites singles, couples, groups, and families to Luther Acres Wellness Center, 600 E. Main St., Lititz, on Thursdays, Sept. 12 and 19, at 7 p.m. Classes See Square Dance Club pg 2

Manheim Township residents Keith and Cindy Grebinger are the owners of Lancaster Picture Framing, 2618 Lititz Pike, rear, Suite 1, Lancaster. Now they are adding another focus: the Sera weighted blanket. Several years ago, Cindy, who has a background in sewing and product design, converted the building’s small kitchen into a sewing studio, where she makes baby blankets and other gifts for children. She was approached by a customer to make a weighted blanket for the customer’s 10-year-old grandson, who was affected by night terrors. “I honestly had never even heard of a weighted blanket before,” Cindy admitted. “As I did my research, I learned that a weighted blanket is a very safe way to help children and adults relax and get a great night’s sleep.” See Sera Weighted Blanket pg 8

Cindy Grebinger developed the Sera weighted blanket, an adjustable blanket with weights that can be added or removed. She is joined by Zid, a rooster with insomnia on a quest for a great night’s sleep, in inviting the community to support the blanket’s larger-scale production via a Kickstarter campaign. Various specials are available to those who donate to the campaign, which will run through Thursday, Sept. 19.
