MTHS Band To Present “Fire And Ice” By Ann Mead Ash

On Aug. 5 through 7, Manheim Township High School (MTHS) marching band members met at the school from 3 to 9 p.m. They returned on Aug. 8, 9, and 12 through 16 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. to practice the fall drill for their show called “Fire and Ice.” Practice was held in the outfield of the school baseball diamond because of construction that is occurring on the property.

Bible2School Adds Two More MTSD Locations 18th Annual Rothsville Day Planned By Ann Mead Ash

In 1979, Section 1546 of the Pennsylvania School Code was amended to allow children to be released from public school for religious training of their choice. The Manheim Ministerium responded by organizing Weekday Religious Education

The 104-member band, under the direction of Scott Siegel, will perform at several exhibitions and take part in parades in East Petersburg and Ephrata this fall, as well as at football games. Showcases that the band will take part in will include Lancaster Catholic High School on Saturday Sept. 21; Owen J. Roberts High School in Pottstown on Saturday, Oct. 5; Ephrata High School on Saturday, Oct. 19; and McCaskey High School on Saturday, Oct. 26. MTHS will host an exhibition on Saturday, Sept. 28. According to Mason Norris, who shares drum major duties with Yasmin Nicholas, the show opens with the song “Fire on High” by Electric Light Orchestra. The first piece will transition into “Ritual Fire Dance,” which is a concert band piece by Manuel De Falla. The second half of the show will feature “Creep” by Radiohead, which will transition into a classical piece called “Songs See MTHS Marching Band pg 5

(WRE). About a decade ago, after the organization changed its name to Bible2School, the released time program expanded into the School District of Lancaster (SDL), where the program was embraced. Since then, Bible2School has moved into a number of Lancaster County school districts, and the program even has affiliates in Johnstown and school districts in Delaware. During the 2019-20 school year, Bible2School will be offered in two additional Manheim Township School District (MTSD) elementary schools. A second-grade class program will be See Bible2School pg 3

Students at two additional Manheim Township School District locations will have the opportunity to take part in Bible2School, which will offer a released time program for students at Neff and Bucher elementary schools beginning at the end of September.

Terry Marxen, one of the organizers of Rothsville Community Day, is grateful to all the area residents and businesses that participate in the annual event. “This is all made possible through the work of many volunteers from the various churches in the area,” said Marxen, “but it would also not be possible without the local businesses who support us financially and allow us to bring in this level of entertainment.” The 18th annual Rothsville Community Day will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Forney

Field on Church Street in Rothsville. This year’s 5K Fun Run/Walk will begin at 9:30 a.m. Registration at Forney Field on the day of the event will open at 9 a.m. The 5K is sponsored by WellSpan Family and Pediatric Medicine in Rothsville, and it raises funds for WellSpan’s Prescription for Caring to help people who cannot afford necessary medications. Free events scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. include a bounce castle, barrel train rides, and See Rothsville Day pg 2

Character juggler Chris Ivey will entertain audiences at the 18th annual Rothsville Community Day, which will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21, at Forney Field on Church Street in Rothsville. The event will include games, food, and demonstrations.
