More than 20 years ago, a group of Christian men began taking a golf excursion that involved Bible study. Dubbed Bibles and Bogeys, the yearly event led to six attendees forming a weekly Bible study group that meets at a local restaurant early each Friday morning. About two years ago, group member Tom Despard turned to fellow member Neil McCauley and asked if he would like to help organize a benefit golf tournament. “I said, ‘Are you crazy?’” recalled McCauley, pointing to the plethora of golf tournaments held in the area. However, McCauley soon changed his mind about the effort. “Tom told me about Safe Families for Children (a ministry of Bethany Christian Services (BCS)), and I said, ‘I am in,’” shared McCauley. The resulting golf tournament, named the Bethany Charity Golf Classic, will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Foxchase Golf Club, 300 Stevens Road, Stevens. Registration will begin at 11 a.m. A shotgun start will be held at See Golf Tournament pg 4

Upcoming Races To Fund Children’s Programming
In June 1976, Theresa Newell made her first trip to Israel. “The first day I was there, we were taken to the Western Wall,” recalled Newell. “When I walked up to the wall to pray, God just met me there, and I said, ‘Father, I am here,’ and I heard, ‘… and you’ll be back.’” Newell, who is director of communications for CMJ USA, has now led more than 50 trips to Israel. When she returned to the United States after her first trip, she began learning Hebrew. “That was a big adventure,” she noted. Her ability to use the language will be employed again, when Newell leads a group to Israel from Sunday, Sept. 8, to See Israel Trip pg 2
