Pieces Of History Reist To Share Knowledge Of Farm Artifacts
More than 30 years ago, Art Reist of Manheim Township went to auctioneer school in Mason City, Iowa. As one of his exams, he was asked to identify 100 items in a pole barn full of antiques. The professor boasted that no one had ever received a perfect grade on the test. “I named every one,” recalled Reist, who noted that the teacher pointed out that there was one item even he could not identify. “It was a tool that was used to seam stovepipe together,” said Reist. Reist will share his knowledge when he presents “Antique Farm Tools and Artifacts,” a program sponsored by the Manheim Township Historical Society, which will be held at the Manheim Township Public Library, 595 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster, on Saturday, Aug. 21, at 10 a.m. Reist said he plans to bring about

St. Peter’s Preschool Prepares To Reopen BY ANN MEAD ASH
hen St. Peter’s Preschool, 10 Delp Road, Lancaster, shut down in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions in March of 2020, teachers left their classrooms and did not return until the summer of 2021. Until the

teachers were able to begin to prepare for the school’s reopening on Monday, Sept. 13, calendars, lists of student names, and seasonal classroom decorations remained locked in time. Now, all that is changing, as teachers and Heather Cramer, St. Peter’s Preschool director, work to
get ready for the arrival of new students. Cramer anticipates a few changes when the parents line up cars to drop off the children on the first day. “We will be a bit smaller than in the past to give a little more social distance for children,” said Cramer, who has reduced class size from 16 students to 12 with a
