The Misfits on a Mission Relay For Life (RFL) team will host a day at the beach with a bus trip to Cape May and the Wildwood boardwalk on Saturday, Aug. 11. The bus will leave at 7 a.m. from the parking lot at Walmart, 890 E. Main St., Ephrata. Attendees may opt to be dropped off at Cape May or the Wildwood boardwalk. EMM’s Global Fair Will Offer Taste Of International Culture
Top drum and bugle corps bands from Pennsylvania and New Jersey will participate in the Buccaneer Classic - A Drum & Bugle Corps Competition - at 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 7, in the Georgelis Law Firm Stadium of Hempfield High School, 340 Mumma Drive, Landisville. “We are bringing drum corps back to Lancaster,” said event co-chair Rick Thomson. “A rich heritage of drum corps activity in Lancaster stretches back to the 1970s. Corps such as Blue Rock, Garfield, Black Watch, Crossmen, Belvederes, Sacred Heart, and many more brought people to their feet year after year with strong brass, percussion, and color guard performances.” The Buccaneer Classic will be hosted by the Reading Buccaneers Drum &
The sight of alpacas, the sound of bongo drums, and the scent of curry will be part of the atmosphere at the annual Global Fair event that will be hosted by Salunga-based Eastern Mennonite Missions (EMM) on Saturday, July 7, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The showcase of international flavor and culture will be held at the 1719 Hans Herr House and Museum, 1849 Hans Herr Drive, Willow Street. Global Fair, an open-air missions and culture festival, will offer opportunities for community members to meet EMM missionaries and to experience samples of the sights, sounds, and flavors from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and North America.

Cavod Will Hold Open House

Simon Ababou, fitness director with the Lititz recCenter, is happy to see participation in the organization’s annual adult triathlon growing. “Last year, we had 172 (participants), and we had 10 teams,” said Ababou, who recalled that in 2017 triathlon organizers focused on encouraging more teams to sign up. When Cavod Academy in New Holland holds its annual open house on Saturday, July 14, from 9 a.m to 2 p.m., the organization will offer visitors the chance to meet characters from past Cavod shows and provide free ice cream to those who sign up for classes during the event.
Harvest Bible Church, 1460 Eden Road, Lancaster, will hold a vacation Bible school (VBS) for children ages 4 to 12 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Sunday through Wednesday, July 8 to 11. Activities will include Bible lessons, songs, crafts, snacks, and games. The community is invited to a grand finale on July 11 at 6:30 p.m. with games, a dunk tank, and hot dogs. Participants in the 2018 Lititz recCenter triathlon will have the opportunity to swim, bike, and run as individuals or as part of a team. This year’s event will be held on Aug. 5 beginning at 8 a.m. at the rec center.
“We’re not just one class,” said Connie Dienner, founder and director of Cavod Academy of the Arts, 665 W. Main St., New Holland, and Cavod Theatre, 641 W. Main St., New Holland. “We have a holistic approach to developing students.” Dienner will be happy to explain more about Cavod’s unique approach to
teaching the arts during the academy’s open house on Saturday, July 14, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Prospective students will have the chance to meet instructors, see performances, and learn about the many types of classes available at Cavod. Free face painting will be offered, a bounce house will be on-site, and a local Christian radio station will broadcast live from the venue. See Open House pg 8
