SUMMER TREATS
The Manheim Township Historical Society will hold an old-fashioned ice cream social immediately following the Manheim Township Public Library’s children’s book reading at the Historic Stoner House, 601 Granite Run Drive, Lancaster, on Saturday, July 6. The book reading will start at noon, and the ice cream social will begin at approximately 12:30 p.m. The festivities will conclude at 2 p.m. Both events are free, and no reservations are required. The Conestoga Herb Guild will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, at the Upper Leacock Township War Memorial Building, 54 W. Main St., Leola. A demonstration on how to make lemon balm hydrosols will be presented, and the herb chervil will be discussed. Guests may attend the meeting for a fee, but must register in advance by calling or texting Susan at 717-725-7451 or emailing atkinsateb@aol.com. JAZZ CONCERT
will continue its 2019 Lemonade Concert Series on Thursday, July 11, at 7 p.m. at Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 E. Roseville Road, Lancaster. The concert will feature the Amy Banks Jazz Quartet. Banks will perform her favorite tunes from the Great American Songbook. A freewill offering will be accepted.

First Listen Concerts Planned
On Flag Day, residents of Lancashire Terrace Retirement Village, 6 Terrace Drive, Lancaster, gathered at the Village Center under the direction of Air Force veteran Richard Little, chaplain of American Legion Post 56, Lititz, to celebrate and honor Old Glory. At 11:15 a.m., Little opened the service with a word of prayer, saying, in part, “We thank you (Lord) for the flag and all it represents … We pray that our flag may bind together the many elements of our dear country and foster the rights of 100 percent Americanism. Please grant that this union of sovereign states remain forever indivisible.” Little’s prayer was followed by the singing of “The Star-Spangled Banner” by the gathering under the direction of pastor Grace Shirk. Gretna Music will begin its seventh year of the First Listen program on Sunday, July 7. The First Listen program showcases the talents of young artists in the local area by allowing them to play before the professional artists begin their performances at 7:30 p.m. All First Listen performances will take place at the Mount Gretna Playhouse, 200 Pennsylvania Ave., Mount Gretna, and are free and open to the public. Concerts will begin at 6:45 p.m. on Sundays, unless otherwise noted. Lancaster Mennonite High School senior Sarah Stoltzfus will perform on violin on July 7. Vocal Harmonix Focuses On Making Music, Friendships
FIBER ARTS CAMP
Penn State Extension 4-H will host a Wool Felting Mini-Camp at the Farm and Home Center, 1383 Arcadia Road, Lancaster, from 9 a.m. to noon on Monday, July 8, through Thursday, July 11. Camp will include instruction and hands-on experience with wool felting and other fiber arts. A small fee will be charged. Membership in 4-H is not required. Cavod Schedules Open House By Ann Mead Ash
“The culture of Cavod is friendly, family-oriented, and welcoming,” said Connie Dienner, founder and director of Cavod Academy of the Arts, 665 W. Main St., New Holland, and Cavod Theatre, 641 W. Main St., New Holland. “We value each person for the gifts God gave them,” said Dienner, who added that the organization’s new tagline is “Create With Purpose.” Cavod Academy will give area families an opportunity to learn more about the academy if they visit an open house on Saturday, July 13, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for tours of the facility and a chance to meet the instructors. The academy, which is now in its 15th year, offers classes in a variety of disciplines, including dance, gymnastics, music, and theater. Classes are open for children age 2-and-a-half to adults.
