Vintage Revival Spring Fever Market Planned ebbie Luther, market facilitator for the Vintage Revival Market, recently recalled the origins of the gathering. “A group of ladies used to meet in a Walmart parking lot to share vintage items found at yard sales and auctions,” said Luther, adding that she thinks those meetups began around 2012. Eventually the group began holding markets at an Akron church, and the event was held at that location for some time. Eventually, the group members became too busy to continue to run the market. Luther, who had been a vendor at the market with her own Dazzling Daisy Designs jewelry, became the facilitator, moving the market gatherings to a space in the Shops at Rockvale that once housed West Elm Outlet. The next Vintage Revival Market will be held at Suite 1079, 35 S. Willowdale Drive, Lancaster, on Saturday, March 27, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free to the public, and it will feature more than 50 vendors, live music, food trucks, and giveaways.

Among the many vendors will be those selling vintage furniture, antiques, vintage glassware, Pyrex items, lighting, knick-knacks, vintage planters with plants, wallhangings, artwork, vintage clothing, and more. “We have live music all day,” said Luther, who has lined up two musicians to perform at the Spring Fever event, which she plans to hold inside and outside the Rockvale venue. A coffee cart and a cupcake vendor will be located inside, and food trucks will also be on site. One food vendor will have beers, wines, and ciders. Food trucks will include those selling tacos, soft pretzels, breakfast sandwiches, chicken wings, and french fries. Luther noted that antiques and vintage items are differentiated by age. “Antiques are older than vintage,” said Luther. Rather than being 100 years old, vintage items are 30 or more years old. “I am not an expert on vintage, but it’s (mostly) from the ‘50s, ‘60s, ‘70s,” said Luther.

Landis Woods Nature Preschool has been meeting for more than two years, and teacher Matt Geyer, known as Mr. Matt, has always interspersed lessons about the great outdoors with learning letters and numbers. However, this year, classes are being held primarily outside Boettcher House in Landis Woods, located off Route 501 in Neffsville. “Our goal is to have them ready for kindergarten when they go, but we add a nature twist to it,” said Alex Van Pelt, who works in environmental education and outreach for the Manheim Township Recreation & Park Planning Department, which oversees the preschool. “This year especially, we are outdoors the entire time,” he added. The classes, held on the Boettcher House patio with children sitting on
individual squares and wearing masks in accordance with COVID-19 restrictions, take place weekdays from 9 to 11:30 a.m. with 4-yearolds meeting three times a week and 3-year-olds meeting twice a week. On Jan. 15, in addition to classes discussing the letter H, taxidermied birds stored at Boettcher House were brought out, and Mr. Matt discussed differences between types of hawks and also between hawks and owls. The discussion varied from history to helicopters to herpetologists, and students learned about using vowels to build words before the discussion turned to butter. “We are going to make some butter sculptures,” announced Geyer, who reminded students that butter comes from cows before Van Pelt showed a video about how milk is processed into butter. Geyer reviewed the information from the film, discussing how butter is separated from buttermilk in a machine. A second video focused on butter

COVID-19 has created a larger niche for in-home care, and Kiralfy noted that YNC is qualified to offer necessary services on and off the three campuses. “We don’t only serve clients on campus, but we reach out and serve the greater community as well,” she noted. “That’s our mission.” YNC, which is located at 706 Rothsville Road, Lititz, offers a variety of services ranging from companion care to end-of-life support, as well as licensed practical nurses who can administer medications and treatments. Kiralfy noted that with in-home safety as a priority, companion services may include helping with meals, meal planning, going to the grocery store, light housekeeping, checking mail, bed linen changes, and laundry. Personal care services include dressing, grooming, and bathing. “We work hand in hand with some cases that involve hospice,” said Kiralfy, noting that hospice services may stay with a patient for a limited amount of time, but additional caregivers can make it possible for people to stay in their homes at the end of life. Memory issues are a factor for many clients, so safety evaluations are part of protocol and partners located on the three campuses may be consulted. “Our partners have been in business more than 100 years combined, so we have those resources to pull from,” shared Kiralfy, who noted that choosing which caregivers to place with which clients and offering additional dementia, cognitive deficit, and behavior training for caregivers is key. Resources offered by YNC’s three partners means a continuum of care when a patient living in the greater
campuses and limiting the number of caregivers that see a client,” said Kiralfy. “A lot of folks want to stay in their homes. (To help them) to do that safely, we are making the appropriate modifications for those folks.” YNC served its first patients in 2016. The collaboration with Pleasant View was approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Health until December 2020. Each night, doors will open at 5 p.m., and the buffet-style meal, which will be catered by Shady Maple, will begin at 5:30 p.m. Matt’s birth parents were overwhelmed by his disability, but adoptive parents Leon and Jean Stutzman embraced those challenges, guiding him to overcome obstacles with a “can do” attitude
that encouraged Matt to try anything he wanted to do. His interest in archery was sparked by his desire to hunt with his father, not knowing the sport would become his life’s passion. Matt went on to win a medal at the 2012 Paralympics in London and to take part in the 2016 games as well as the 2017 U.S. Outdoor Target Nationals against an able-bodied field of competitors. In addition to Matt’s talk, the event will include auction items going up for bids, and a Chinese auction will also be held. Christian and clinical counseling, weekly Bible studies, and Celebrate Recovery meetings are part of the structured and consistent environment the program provides. “We take (students) out for vocational training,” said Santiago. The training teaches the student a skill and gives him a reference or an opportunity to become a full-time employee. Santiago reported that two students are currently earning their high school equivalency certificates, and two more are studying ministry at Lancaster Bible College. Tickets are required for individuals to attend the banquet. Seating is limited. Tickets purchased by Saturday, March 6, will be discounted. Any funds that are left from the Spring Fever event will be donated to North Star Initiative, a local organization that fights human trafficking. North Star has created a sanctuary for female survivors of human trafficking called The Harbor. The Vintage Revival Market is located near the Disney Store behind the Cracker Barrel restaurant. LCCS Plans Second Legacy Workshop

When describing the thought process behind presenting Legacy Planning for Uncertain Times, a financial workshop to be held at Lancaster County Christian School (LCCS), Doctor Sandy Outlar, who works in community relations for the school, turned to John Wesley, Methodist Evangelist and famous theologian, for inspiration. “‘Make all you can, save all you can, and give all you can,’” quoted Outlar. “I think that sums up what we’re trying to do.” He added, “We want to be maneuvered in God’s hands as to what we do with what God has given to us. This (workshop) is meant to be inspirational and informative.” This year’s workshop, the second held by LCCS, will take place in the large lobby of the school at 2390

New Holland Pike, Lancaster, on Saturday, March 13, from 9 a.m. to noon. The workshop will consist of three parts given by presenters who are professional advisers and parents of LCCS students. Estate Planning for Eternity, which will focus on stewardship and leaving a legacy by implementing an estate plan, will be presented by Tim Shawaryn. “Tax Paying With a Purpose” will be presented by Jason McDougall and will explore ways to redirect funds and utilize tax strategies. The final workshop, presented by Lamar King, will be “Investing in Periods of Fear.” Material will look at keeping stewardship purposeful in times of uncertainty. Outlar said that positive feedback from the 2020 workshop, which was attended by more than 50 people, inspired the school to schedule
another one. “(Attendees said) they appreciated learning ways to get the most out of investments and provide funding for beloved organizations (they would) like to support,” he stated. “There was praise for the quality of the speakers and the content.” Outlar added that the upcoming workshop is designed for people who may not have spent much time thinking about estate planning and who might “appreciate getting more out of their money with certain types of investments.” The workshop is free and open to the public, but those wishing to take part are asked to register by calling 717-556-0711, ext. 213, or emailing soutlar@lccs.cc by Wednesday, March 10. Rohrer’s Concrete needs a Plant Assistant to load concrete silos and empty reclamation plant bins. Use dump truck and/or loader to retrieve materials and fill or empty bins, assist with plant maintenance, and take care of precast block production. Successful candidates must have a valid driver’s license; safe driving record; stable employment history, be able to lift up to 75lbs, and work outside in all kinds of weather, heat, cold, dusty & muddy places, with extremely loud equipment, and be available for regular overtime. Experience with heavy equipment, concrete operations, and/or any type of plant maintenance is preferred, but not required. We offer competitive pay and benefits including health, dental, vision, disability, life insurance, Paid Time Off (PTO), 401(k) with match, and long-term care.
