JUNIPER VILLAGE AT MOUNT JOY

Before my husband’s move to Juniper Village, I toured six other homes. What set Juniper Village apart was the smiles and eye contact of the staff and residents. We felt it indicated a happy environment. Juniper Village at Mount Joy is a truly pleasant place to live; clean and well-appointed. But most important is the care my husband receives. His needs are anticipated and fulfilled with kindness. His call bell is answered promptly. We are very happy with our choice. Thank you to all the staff at Juniper Village at Mount Joy for the excellent care my husband receives.”

“We are beyond thrilled with my Mom’s care at Juniper Village at Mount Joy. The staff is wonderful and cheerful, which helps all of us when these decisions for more care are being made. Mom is happy and loves the staff. We as a family highly recommend Juniper for your loved one’s care, it is a paradise.” Pam C. five-star review on SeniorAdvisor.com

History Of Mount Joy

Early History The first people to inhabit the Mount Joy area were Indian traders. They traded with the Native Americans who passed through the area. Following the traders came the settlers. William Penn granted plantations to settlers in the region. Three of those plantations made up

the present-day Mount Joy area. In the early 1800s the plantations were divided into small parcels. This allowed for small villages to emerge. The Villages There were three main villages that made up the Mount Joy area in the early 1800s. The village of Richland encompassed the western part of the original borough, and Springville became the Florin Ward. A village named Mountjoy made up the eastern section of today’s borough. Mountjoy was named after a ship that saved starving Scots-Irish of Londonderry, Northern Ireland in 1689. Twenty years later, those same people came to this area, and brought their beloved name with them. In 1851 the villages of Richland and Mountjoy, as well as the surrounding smaller villages, combined to form the Borough of Mount Joy. In 1963 Florin was annexed, and the Borough of today was complete.

Mount Joy Area Historical Society The Historical Society is a great resource on Mount Joy history and offers many opportunities for research. The museum houses many displays of Mount Joy artifacts and local business memorabilia. They recently acquired and restored a 900 sq. ft. one-room schoolhouse next to the museum which is used as a meeting house. You can learn more about the Cemetery Road Schoolhouse, the Historical Society, how to become a member, their meetings and hours of operation at www.mountjoyhistory.com

Donegal School District The Donegal School District is comprised of Marietta and Mount Joy Boroughs, East Donegal Township and approximately one third of Mount Joy Township. The District’s close proximity to major metropolitan areas and its small town atmosphere have made Donegal an attractive place to live. The District consists of four schools: • Donegal Primary School (DPS), grades K-2 • Donegal Intermediate School (DIS), grades 3-6 • Donegal Junior High School (DJHS), grades 7 & 8 • Donegal High School (DHS), grades 9-12 While we are exceptionally proud of our academic, arts, athletic and extra-curricular programs, what makes us truly special are the students, parents/guardians and staff! There is a tremendous amount of pride in what we do and a real sense of community in the schools. We work hard every day to fulfill our vision: Every Name, Every Need: One Tribe! SERVING INDIVIDUALS IN THE LANCASTER COUNTY AREA WITH ALL THEIR REAL ESTATE NEEDS

Milanof-Schock Library is your award-winning neighborhood library. Begun as a Girl Scout project in 1962 and awarded the title “Best Small Library in America” by the American Library Association and the Gates Foundation in 2006, Milanof-Schock Library strives to be a dynamic destination for a connected community. If you think people don’t use the libraries anymore, you haven’t been to a library lately. Your library card does so much more than allow you to borrow books! Your neighborhood collection of ebooks, audiobooks, library has an ever-expanding podcasts and databases as well as public computers and Wi-Fi in the building and things to borrow like books [surprise!] and movies on DVD. In the building or online, Milanof-Schock Library provides materials and programs to connect with all age groups and income levels by providing free educational resources and programming. Milanof-Schock Library’s mission is to be a community resource that enriches lives through education, information, exploration, and socialization for the Donegal School District’s five municipalities: Marietta Borough and Mount Joy Borough, East

Donegal Township, Mount Joy Township and Rapho Township. Milanof-Schock Library’s building exists because of bequests from Anne Milanof and Clarence Schock and a long, long list of generous people who donated to a $1.2 million dollar capital campaign in 1999. The library continues to operate because of the ongoing, generous support of our community. As a result, Milanof-Schock Library truly belongs to the community! Visit www.mslibrary.org and see what is happening! Stop in and discover what the “Best Small Library in America” can do for you!
