A Christmas open house will be held at St. Mary of Providence Retreat Center on Saturday, Dec. 14, from noon to 6 p.m. The event will feature tours of the historic 1890s Potts mansion, also known as Langoma, and visits with Santa, along with hot chocolate and treats. Visitors will also have an opportunity to win gift baskets. New this year is that Santa will be set up in an on-site Gingerbread House, which is located by the indoor pool at St. Mary’s. “Santa will be visiting the children in the Gingerbread House, and there will be refreshments - all by donation,” explained Sister Brenda McHugh, site director. She said that the building that is being used as the Gingerbread House once served as the mansion’s caretaker’s house. “It’s a two-room house with an old stove, and it was built in 1905,” See St. Mary Of Providence pg 8
