The Village Library of Morgantown, 207 N. Walnut St., Morgantown, will hold its fall book sale on Thursday, Oct. 10, through Saturday, Oct. 12. An early bird sale will be held on Oct. 10 from 4 to 5 p.m. There will be an admission fee. The sale will continue with no admission fee from 5 to 8 p.m. On Friday, Oct. 11, the sale will take place from 9 a.m. to noon and again from 5 to 8 p.m. On Oct. 12, there will be a Bag of Books sale from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Homemade baked goods will be available during the book sale. Members of the Caernarvon Historical Society will host a program on Wednesday, Oct. 16, at 10 a.m. and again at 7 p.m. Bill Shirk will share about “Caernarvon Township Indians.” The 10 a.m. program will be at the Caernarvon Historical Society building, 2148 Main St., Narvon. The 7 p.m. program will be held at the Churchtown United Methodist Church, 2170 Main St., Churchtown. The public is invited to attend. For details, call 717-445-5040.

Caernarvon Fire Company, 2145 Main St., Narvon, will host a turkey supper on Saturday, Oct. 19. Turkey with all the trimmings, including stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, corn, pepper cabbage and cranberry sauce, will be served family-style beginning at 1 p.m. The menu will also include peaches, cake and ice cream for dessert. Thrive and Grit is just one of many area organizations supporting the fight against breast cancer. Here’s a sampling of some of the other local groups that are fighting back against the disease and supporting breast cancer patients and survivors:

Very loving, sweet, and always having fun - that’s how Jacquelyn Sauder Iannello describes her older sister Megan Sauder Ralston. With two and a half years between them in age, the sisters - who are the youngest daughters of John and Bonita Sauder of Lititz - grew up doing nearly everything together and had a friendship that strengthened into adulthood. Megan graduated from Lancaster Mennonite High School and went on to play Division I field hockey at Virginia Commonwealth University and earn a Master of Teaching in 2011. She taught first-grade in the Washington, D.C., area and married the love of her life, John Ralston, in 2013. In 2016, after finding a small lump in her breast about six months after giving birth to her son, Bryce, Megan - who was living in Charlottesville, Va., at the time and had no family history of breast cancer - made an OB-GYN appointment and was told by two doctors that the lump was a blocked milk duct. “She was nursing at the time, and the doctors said it was going to go away,” said Jacquelyn. “She was misdiagnosed.” Megan’s pain continued to increase to the point of being unable to lift her son. She returned to the doctor weeks later and was directed to a breast care clinic where she had a See Thrive And Grit pg 7

Elverson Parade Set For Oct. 16 Poole Forge To Present 5K Run, Car Show “The Deep Blue Sea” is the theme of the 2019 Elverson Parade, which will take place on Main Street (Route 23) from 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 16. Route 23 will be closed to all traffic between Brick Lane and Route 401 between 6 and 9 p.m., and vehicles will be detoured using Brick Lane and Route 401. The rain date for this annual event is Thursday, Oct. 17. Marchers will begin lining up on South Pine Street at 6 p.m. and move west on Main Street beginning at 7 p.m. The parade will end at the former location of the National Penn Bank on Yeingst Drive. The Elverson Fitness Club will be closing at 5 p.m. on the day of the parade. All are invited to watch the antique cars, marching bands, clowns, acrobats, and floats as they march or ride down Elverson’s main thoroughfare. Wellbehaved dogs on leashes are welcome, but individuals are asked to leave their
bicycles at home unless they are riding in the parade. Bands will perform several times along the parade route. Prizes will be awarded in the following categories - Commercial Float, Noncommercial Float, Marching Unit, Church or Scout Group, Best on Wheels, and Best of Show. Parade participants must decorate around the theme to be eligible for prizes. Pre-parade activities have been scheduled, as well, including face painting with designs keeping with the parade theme. Johnny (Cash) Barnett will provide entertainment before the start of the parade at the Elverson Supply parking lot, where a new food truck, the Mobile Mess Hall, will sell sandwiches and beverages. Moore’s french fries and Jerry Abbott’s funnel cakes will be available near the judges’ stand at the west end of town. Giovanni’s Pizza in the center of town will be open, as well. When awards are handed out at the conclusion of the Run for the Cows 5K at Historic Poole Forge on Saturday, Oct. 12, a special prize will be given to a first-time runner in the under 15 age group with the best time. That youngster will be presented
with the Jacob’s Challenge award, which is named after Jacob Smucker of Narvon, who was tragically killed in a road accident in southern Lancaster County in November of 2016, just a month after participating in his first race.
