PUMPKIN CONTEST
Boone Area Library, 129 N. Mill St., Birdsboro, will present a Storybook Pumpkin Decorating contest. Pumpkins decorated to look like storybook characters may be dropped off during library business hours from Thursday, Oct. 11, through Wednesday, Oct. 17. Pumpkins may be brought to the library and decorated on Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Craft supplies and some pumpkins will be available. Patrons may vote in person or via Facebook from Thursday, Oct. 18, to Wednesday, Oct. 24. Winners will be announced by Friday, Oct. 26. Pumpkins may be picked up beginning on Oct. 26. 1401 Springville Road (Route 897), East Earl, will host 2018 Renewal Services on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 6 and 7. Services will begin at 7 p.m. on Oct. 6 and at 10:30 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Oct. 7. Pastor Kelly Martin of Goodville Mennonite Church will be the guest speaker at all three services. In addition, special music will be presented by local musicians. Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, will host Musical Memories on Saturday, Oct. 6, from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. in the chapel. Musical Memories is a musical program for individuals with Alzheimer’s or dementia and their caregiver. The free event will provide an opportunity for individuals experiencing the symptoms of dementia to spend an afternoon with family members or a caregiver. High Point Baptist Academy To Host Auction, Barbecue By Francine Fulton
The senior class at High Point Baptist Academy, Geigertown, will present a silent auction and pork barbecue dinner on Friday, Oct. 5, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the class’s upcoming service trip. Admission to the event, which will also include a live auction and vendors, is free and open to the public. Tickets for the dinner can be purchased that evening. The pork barbecue dinner will include three sides, a beverage and a whoopie pie for dessert. All events will be held in school’s large gymnasium. “The gym will be split in half. The front part will be the auction items. We have a curtain that goes through the middle,” explained Amy Sandiford, the school’s advancement and admissions director. “The back side will be the eating area and
vendors. Local artisans are coming with handmade goods and different products that they sell.” She noted that vendors will offer items such as gourmet chocolate and coffee, jewelry and handmade signs. The silent auction will include fall flower arrangements and wreaths, a pretzel gift basket, gift cards to local restaurants and theaters and tickets to sporting events. A highlight of the auction will be themed class baskets filled with items collected by students in kindergarten through 12th grade. For example, there will be a Date Night basket with gift cards and chocolates and a Good Neighbor Basket with gift cards to local businesses. The live auction will follow the closing of the silent auction at approximately 7 p.m. “Any items that are valued at $300 or above will be in the live auction,” said Sandiford. “We have some antique Hummel figurines, (including) one that See Auction pg 10

Ryerss Farm To Hold Blessing Of The Animals Weaverland Movie Night By Francine Fulton To Highlight Recent Release Ryerss Farm for Aged Equines, 1710 Ridge Road (Route 23), Pottstown, will host its 28th annual Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, Oct. 7, from noon to 3 p.m. A short nondenominational service will be held at 1 p.m. in the main barn, followed by individual blessings for all animals in attendance. The event, which will be held rain or shine, is free, but donations will be accepted. Members of the community are welcome to bring their cats, dogs and other small pets to the blessing. All animals must be supervised and in crates or on leashes. “It is fun to watch all the animals arrive. We get some beautiful dogs and cats and ferrets and little animals in crates,” said Gail Morris, a member of the Ryerss board of managers. “We never know who will come until that day.” She noted that in previous years, some goat
