Car Show Part of Harmony Day Celebration
BY FRANCINE FULTON
Harmony Day, which will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 20, in Honey Brook, will feature activities at many local venues as well as community-wide yard sales. Held for the first time during Harmony Day will be the fall car show of the Draggin’ Wagons Car Club, which will take place at Calvary Chapel of Honey Brook, 5011 Horseshoe Pike, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The club holds car shows twice each year - one in spring and one in fall. “We have normally had a fall show, but it was never in conjunction with Harmony Day,” noted club member Ray Marvin. “We thought it would be a good time. The church suggested it when we asked if we could try a fall show at their parking lot.” Marvin reported that the spring show was held at Jerry’s Pizza Pie, which is located across the street from Calvary Chapel. “It was an overcast day with some rain showers, but we had around 50 cars plus about 20 cars (from local car clubs) and a large amount of spectators,” he noted. “It was a great day and a lot of fun for all who attended.”
Vehicle owners of all makes and models are invited to participate in the upcoming show, including classic, antique and custom vehicles; street rods; muscle cars; antique cars; motorcycles; and trucks.
Those who choose to display their vehicles will be asked to make a registration donation. Registration will take place on the day of the show. There will be no admission fee for spectators, but the club asks that all guests

Flu, Pneumonia Vaccines Available at Giant, Martin’s
The Giant Company has announced that flu and pneumonia vaccinations are now available at all Giant and Martin’s pharmacies. Walk-ins are welcome, but customers can also make an appointment if they prefer. Most insurance plans cover flu shots at $0 copays, including Medicare Part B. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone age 6 months and older get a flu vaccination annually, ideally by October. Vaccination to prevent influenza is particularly important for people who are at higher risk of developing serious complications from flu, including people with diabetes, pregnant women, adults over 65, those with asthma and other chronic lung diseases, those with kidney and liver disorders,

little pumpkins,” said Dawn Ekdahl, Poole Forge executive director, noting that barrel rides for children as well as hayrides for people of all ages will be featured. “The barrel ride and hayride are full the entire day; kids love them.”
New demonstrations will be featured at this year’s event. “New this year will be Dane Fox, who will do chainsaw wood carving; candle making and soap making; rug hooking; and apple pressing,” noted Ekdahl. “These are all demonstrations that people can take part in.”
The day will also include a wildlife show by Raven Ridge Wildlife Center, an Amish youth volleyball tournament, cornhole, a sale of one-dollar books, a pony cart and pet parade and demonstrations by the Lancaster Spinners and Weavers Guild. Lancaster Watershed Leadership Academy and Lancaster Water Initiative will be on hand to talk about water conservation, and there will be a hot air balloon walk-about, which allows visitors to walk into a partially inflated balloon.
A highlight of the day will be a turtle race at 3:15 p.m. Visitors who “purchase” green rubber turtles that will float down Conestoga Creek will be in the running for monetary prizes. The first turtle across the finish line will get the grand prize. There will also be smaller prizes for the other top finishers.
There will also be a silent auction, with goods and gift certificates donated by local businesses and craft vendors. “We got some interesting antiques that were donated, and fall plants and baskets,” Ekdahl said. “(Vendors will offer) painted stones, walking sticks and 3D printer (items). There will be a crafter who makes flowers out of pipe cleaners.” She added that another popular vendor is Long’s Horseradish of Lancaster.
The 18th-century Welsh ironmaster’s mansion will be open for guided tours, and live music will be offered on the mansion porch. “We will have a live string band featuring fiddles, violins and guitars,” noted Ekdahl.
Offering food and beverages will be the Father and Son Barbecue, the Waffle Wagon and Beiler’s HandRolled Pretzels. Poole Forge will offer soft-serve ice cream and smoothies. DJ Jay Mattson will provide the music.
The event will end with an airplane candy drop, weather permitting.
Historic Poole Forge is located on Route 23, 7 miles east of New Holland and 3 miles east of the Shady Maple Complex. For more information and a detailed schedule of Poole Forge Day events, visit www .historicpooleforge.org or www.facebook.com/poole forge. Those with questions may email Ekdahl at hpf1940@gmail.com.

and adults with certain risk conditions.
Immunizations are administered by immunizing Giant and Martin’s pharmacists and specially trained pharmacy team members, subject to state regulations.
