Tommy Froelich Band Returns to Honey Brook Stage BY LOGAN MOYER
H
oney Brook Borough’s 2026 Concerts in the Park series will continue on Sunday, Sept. 13, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. with a performance from the Tommy Froelich Band, a Chester Countybased rock and blues outfit that describes itself as having “high energy, guitar-driven power with a whole lot of soul.” “I’d say it’s a soulful, energetic and familiar sound,” described Froelich. “It’s all based off of classic rock and blues that I’ve listened to through my life. ... It’s rock ’n’ roll with a blues flair.” Concertgoers will have to hope for some better weather this time around; the last scheduled show in the series was postponed due to rain. The makeup date

It’s an extra special year for the Hay Creek Festival. The 50th annual Hay Creek Festival will run from Friday, Sept. 11, through Sunday, Sept. 13, at Histor ic Joanna Fur nace, 1250 Furnace Road, Morgantown. “It’s a major milestone for us,” said Mark Zerr, executive director of the Hay Creek Valley Historical Association (HCVHA), which presents the event. “We knew it was going to be the 250th anniversary
of the country (this year), so we figured that it couldn’t be a more appropriate way to celebrate our birthday with the country at the same time.” Organizers, volunteers, craftsmen and nearly 800 living history interpreters are busy finalizing plans for the annual event, which began in 1976. H i g h l i g h t s o f t h i s y e a r ’s event will include exhibits and demonstrations of traditional early American crafts, a contemporary craft market, living history

St. Mark’s Readies for Annual Fall Fest BY LOGAN MOYER
St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 5 Brooke Manor, Birdsboro, will present its annual Fall Fest event on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Highlights will include live music, homemade food and activities for children, including a “moon bounce,” a kiddie train ride, face painting and a cake walk. The event is renowned for its themed baskets, which it is taking to a new level this year. At this year’s event, there will be more than 100 themed gift baskets available for bidding, nearly double the previous year’s tally. “I have one young lady that is just a go-getter,” said Marsha Springel, who has been the event’s chair since its inception. “What she does is she’ll watch (Facebook) Marketplace and Next Door to see items that are for sale, and she’ll literally call the people and ask them if they want to donate it to support St. Mark’s.” Like last year’s festival, there will be a random drawing for the baskets, which replaced the silent auction format from past years. The baskets include themes like barbecue, Italian dinners, baby items and more. There are also special baskets just for children to win, along with the annual handmade quilt that is donated by church member Tina Rohrbach. For the children’s auction, tickets will cost significantly less. Anybody who desires to win the children’s baskets must be accompanied by a child. In the past, we’ve had grandmothers say, ‘Oh, my grandchild would like that,’ and they bid on it and ended up winning. It’s hard to get people to know who they are unless they come out and support live music.” At the Honey Brook show, Froelich said that the crowd can expect a guitar-derived rock show. In September, he will be all over the region, performing in West Chester, Downingtown, Essington and all the way up in the Poconos. In the past, the band was named as Philadelphia’s 102.9 WMGK house band of the year in 2015-16 and also performed a set supporting Joe Walsh and Bad Company at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion in Camden, N.J., during that timeframe. “Instead of looking for

Free, continuously running shuttle buses will be provided from an offsite parking area from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. An admission fee is charged for the festival, although children age 5 and under get in free. Special for this year’s event, there will a time capsule celebration at 3 p.m. on Sunday. The time capsule was presented to the HCVHA by the Pennsylvania State Historic Preservation Office and will be filled with a variety of new and old artifacts for a future generation to discover. “ T his is going to b e the f irst t ime caps ule ceremony that we’ve ever d o n e ,” s a i d Z e r r, w h o added that there’s no set plan for when the organization will open the capsule. “We figure we’ll leave that for a future generation to dig up. Maybe they ’ll wait another 50 years, or maybe they ’ll wait another 100 years.” There will be a Civil War encampment, demonstrating how soldiers lived and trained in the mid19th century. Re-enactors will also have rifle and cannon firing demonstrations on Saturday and Sunday at the festival. Visitors can also tour the 18th and 19th century Joanna Furnace ironmaking complex. A new exhibit, curated by the anthropolog y & archaeology department at Kutztown University, will be featured in the Blowing Engine House this year, where visitors will learn about the Joanna Furnace hot-blast system, which was installed in 1888. “They really uncovered the corners of the mansion that they did on one side,” Zerr said of the Kutztown team. “ T his display is going to be seen for the first time in September. … Visitors are welcome to check out the display that will be offered.” A variety of entertainment will take place on the main stage throughout the entire weekend. Festival favorite Marion Gehman & Friends will perform her ventriloquist act on Friday. Magician David Dar win will once again perform on Friday and Saturday at the festival. David, a past contestant on NBC ’s “Americas Got
