Green Valleys Watershed Association will present a Bee Program at Welkinweir Pavilion, 1368 Prizer Road, Pottstown, on Saturday, Aug. 25, from 9 to 11 a.m. The program will teach participants how to support bees in their own backyard. Calvary Chapel To Offer Free ESL Classes By Francine Fulton

Members of the BirdsboroUnion Fire Department will hold their 17th annual scramble golf outing on Sunday, Sept. 23, at the Reading Country Club, 5311 Perkiomen Ave., Reading. The registration fee includes lunch, golf, dinner, and door prizes. Registration and lunch will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. Dinner with prizes will follow play at 6 p.m. All proceeds will benefit the fire company’s new truck fund. Boone Area Library, 129 N. Mill St., Birdsboro, will hold “Introduction to 3-D Printing” for adults age 18 and up. There will be two class options. The first class will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 28, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The second class will be held on Monday, Sept. 17, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. In the class, attendees will learn how to design and print their own 3-D creations. Registration is required. Participants are urged to bring their own computers. The library will provide computers as well. To register, readers may stop by the library or call 610-582-5666.

Nonnative English speakers interested in improving their English language, writing and conversational skills are invited to take English as a Second Language (ESL) classes that will be offered this fall at Calvary Chapel Chester Springs, 217 Dowlin Forge Road, Exton. There is no fee to attend the classes. No child care will be provided. Five levels of classes - from Foundation and Beginners up to Advanced - will be offered beginning on Monday, Sept. 10. Classes will be held every Monday from 7 to 8 p.m. through May 13, 2019. For the upcoming session, a new Special Conversation Class has been added and will be offered each Monday from 6 to 7 p.m. All are welcome. As part of an effort to promote fellowship and sharing among members of local Lutheran congregations, a multi-church picnic will be held at Living God Lutheran Church (LGLC) in Honey Brook on Sunday, Aug. 26, from 4 to 6 p.m. The event will be held rain or shine. Berks County Parks and Recreation Department will present “Harvest to Hearth” on Sunday, Aug. 26, at 2 p.m. at the Beidler House, 1130 Old River Road, Gibraltar. Historian and Colonial hearth cook Courtney McKay Stevens will provide a glimpse into life in and around Beidler house in late summer into autumn, which would have been the busiest time of year for the Colonial housewife. A cast of youths and young adults will present Disney’s “Newsies the Musical,” a Tony award-winning production, at Steel River Playhouse,

Twin Valley Food Pantry (TVFP), an outreach ministry of Conestoga Mennonite Church, 2779 Main St. (Route 23), Morgantown, is in need of volunteers to work at the upcoming food distribution, to be held on Tuesday, Aug. 28, from 5 to 7 p.m. In addition, volunteers are sought to stock the pantry prior to the distribution. Adult volunteers, as well as high school students, can help stock the pantry on Wednesday, Aug. 22, beginning at 7 p.m. following the delivery of food by the Greater Berks Food Bank and the Central Pennsylvania Food Bank. Volunteers will also sort and unload food items from local donations and food drives. Stocking volunteers will work for approximately two hours. Twin Valley Middle School (TVMS) student Tia Sherman recently captured a first-place prize in rifle twirling at the 2018 USA and World Open Twirling Championship, held July 24 through 28 at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. Tia, 13, who will be in eighth grade at TVMS this fall, is part of the TVMS color guard program and has also competed in individual events with the Twin Valley High School indoor guard. At the USA and World Open Twirling Championship, nicknamed America’s Youth on Parade (AYOP), youths competed in various twirling categories, including flags, rifles and batons.
