The season of celebration of America’s 250th birthday is not over. Birdsboro will host a “Big 250 Bash” on Saturday, Sept. 5, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Main Bird Park, 226 N. Water St., Birdsboro. The event will feature local vendors and a farmers market, a petting zoo, various food trucks, Birdsboro history tours, live music and fireworks. The event has been in the works since the spring. “We wanted to have our own little celebration,” said event organizer Brandi Brennan. “We didn’t want to have it during the summer because a lot of people are at the beach and a lot of bigger cities were having theirs on the Fourth of July, so we thought Labor Day weekend would be a good time to have it, where everyone’s home in sort of the back-to-school season.” In the morning, before the bash, there will be a parade in town. Following the traditional route of the borough’s Halloween parade route with a slight detour at the end, the parade will include various groups in the community, including the women’s club, the Rotary Club and the Daniel Boone football team. Local police and fire departments will also be involved. S ticking with emergenc y responders, members of the police department will be sitting in a dunk tank for members of the community to sink them. Birdsboro mayor Anthony Tucci will also take a turn in the tank, along with some members of borough council. Sticking with the emergency response theme, weather permitting, air medical personnel will fly into the station with a helicopter at 11 a.m., and Gibraltar’s crew will be doing a vehicle rescue demonstration at noon. The crew will cut apart a car and demonstrate how they would save passengers inside of it in the event of a crash. For the younger audience, there will be free face painting, a bounce house, water wars and a “battle of the barrels” event. “Fire departments in the past have done battles of the barrel,” Miec-
zkowski said. “There’s a barrel that’s on a cable, and there’s one team on one end, one team on the other end, and whoever gets the barrel to the other end wins.” Free hot dogs will also be ser ved to those in attendance. The Scouting America will also have a table at the event for those interested in joining. Most of the day’s events are oriented toward children, a choice Mieczkowski said was intentional. “ We’re tr ying to get them in and around the fire company and with the police,” he said. Along with Geigertown Fire Company, Gibraltar Fire Company serves a roughly 30-mile radius in Robeson Township. According to the township, Gibraltar has 50 volunteer members and has nine pump tanks and apparatus.

Youths Recognized at Beef Round-Up

The annual Chester County 4-H Beef Round-Up took place on Aug. 3. The event was one of many livestock programs held during the 2026 Chester County 4-H Fair, which occurred from Aug. 3 to 8 at the Chester County 4-H Center. The Beef Round-Up featured showmanship and market classes, where students showcased the market steers and breeding heifers that they cared for and trained throughout the 2025-26 project year. Par ticipants also completed the annual Beef Skill-A-Thon, where they were evaluated on their
understanding of beef production, nutrition, animal health, equipment, meat science, and other aspects of the cattle industry. The beef show was judged by Daniel Rohrbaugh of Seven Valleys. The grand champion beef showman was Gretchen McCafferty, and the reser ve grand champion beef showman was Ella Howe. Native Tree and Shrub Sale Posted Penn State Extension’s Master Watershed Steward program will hold its seventh annual native tree and shrub sale this fall, with 25 pickup locations across the state. Funds from the sale will support regional Master Watershed Steward volunteer activities, including stream repair projects, tree plantings, and education programs. This year’s fundraiser features one native woody vine species and 23 native tree and shrub varieties, including the frequently requested pawpaw and persimmon. Master Watershed Stewards will accept orders through Tuesday, Aug. 25, or until supplies run out. Curbside pickup will be available on Friday, Sept. 18, at Smedley Park, 20 Papermill Road, Springfield, and on Saturday, Sept. 19, at Hibernia Park, 1 Park Road, Coatesville. Pickups for other counties will have different dates and locations. Native trees, shrubs, and other plants improve air
and water quality, reduce stormwater runoff and pollution, and enrich and enhance prop er t y and enjoyment. Master Watershed Stewards plant trees to intercept and infiltrate stormwater, stabilize soils, and filter pollutants. Customers may choose trees and shrubs in 1-, 2-, or 3-gallon pots. Species sold in the same three sizes of pots also will be available as bundles of three for a reduced price. New this year, two species sold as container seedlings will be available for purchase, sold in bundles of five. Organizers encourage re s i d e n t s t o c o n s i d e r above- and below-ground utilities and mature growth size when choosing a tree for their property, and to always call 811 before dig g ing. Following a recent report by the Pennsylvania Department of Health that measles cases are on the rise, Giant and Martin’s has announced that measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccines are available at its in-store pharmacies. The MMR vaccine can prevent measles, a highly contagious disease that can lead to serious complications, particularly in young children and unvaccinated individuals. The CDC recommends two doses, which provide approximately 97% protection. The borough is awaiting various permits, but the foundation does plan to stage the beer garden during the event. “We’re just hoping for most of our community members to come out and interact with one another and sort of experience the history of Birdsboro,” Brennan said. Another highlight of the day will be the Birdsboro history tours, led by a longtime resident of the town. Another former resident will be doing some live iron foraging and metalworking to honor the town. T he boroug h is also planning on conducting a questionnaire scavenger hunt that will go along with the walking history tour. The winner of the scavenger hunt will receive a cash prize. “Our borough council sort of wanted us to pursue this and put it together to get a little bit more of a greater sense of community in our town,” Brennan said of the history tour. “We have a pretty big divide between retired families and the newer, younger families
