Alarge yard sale to benefit mission work in Senegal will take place for the ninth time on Friday and Saturday, July 31 and Aug. 1, beginning at 8 a.m. at the home of Jill and Mike Edelman, 2449 Ridge Road (Route 23), Elverson.
The Edelmans are missionaries
with the Global Training Network (GTN) and Mission Inter Senegal (MIS), the former of which trains pastors and other Christian leaders around the world. MIS helps missionaries connect with local towns and villages within the country.
The yard sale returned last summer after a two-year absence.
“It’s really not a yard sale,” Jill said. “It’s more like a flea market.
I call it a God sale.”
Shoppers will find a variety of items at the upcoming sale, including antiques, lamps, artwork, furniture, jewelry, toys, baby and toddler items, fishing gear, sports equipment and household items.
All of the items available at the sale will be donated by members of the community. The couple said that prices at the sale are much

On July 4, Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site held its annual Independence Day celebration, which featured patriotic music and the recitation of the Declaration of Independence. The event also featured the reading of winning essays as part of a contest that invited local students to address the question, “How do you see the Declaration of Independence influencing the future over your lifetime?”
In the high school division, Tithi Patel, Kayla Karasek and MaryEllen Reichart, all of Exeter Township Senior High School, placed first, second and third, respectively.

It’s an unusual pairing, but one that will be in evidence at the “Glow Run” 5K run and walk at Honeybrook Golf Club, 1422 Cambridge Road, Honey Brook, on Saturday, Aug. 15. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Honey Brook Food Pantry. This year’s event is the first of its kind since 2023; previous events benefited OneRunTogether, a now defunct nonprofit that financially and spiritually supported local cancer patients in need.
The race, which will start at 9 p.m., will have runners adorned in T-shirts with glow-in-thedark logos, as well as glowstick necklaces and bracelets.
“It’s a very cool visual effect when you see almost 200 people running together with glowsticks through the night,” said Steve Elliker of Elliker Financial, principal sponsor of the event. “This is a beautiful venue at the golf club; beautiful rolling hills. It’s quite a nice visual.”
There is a nominal cost to sign up, which can be done at https:// runsignup.com/Race/PA/ HoneyBrook/ReadySetGLOW atHBGC. The signup price will increase after Saturday, July 25. That date is also the deadline to guarantee a T-shirt. Registration includes glowsticks and snacks on the night of the race.
On the day of the race, registration will be from 8 to 8:50 p.m. After the race starts at 9 p.m., the awards ceremony will be at 10 p.m. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in each age group (5 to 7, 8 to 10, 11 to 13, 14 to 16, 17 to 19, 20 to 29, 30 to 39, 40 to 49, 50 to 59, 60 to 69 and 70 and older). She referenced movements for abolition, women’s suffrage, civil rights and other issues as having drawn words and power from the Declaration of Independence, saying that the document will “act as a guide for what’s right.”
She also said that the document will serve as the blueprint for how rights expand in the future, which is why it will influence the future over her lifetime.

“It’s really a family, community-friendly event,” Elliker said. “It’s not normal to do that kind of breakout, but we’re just trying to get more (awards) for everybody.”
The run will follow the golf cart path on the course. There will be water at different checkpoints on the course. New for this year’s event, Maggie Moo’s ice cream truck will be at the event. Elliker also said there will be music, although he is not sure if it will be a live band or a DJ.
Also new for this year’s event, a drawing for baskets will be contested. There will be 20 baskets, with themes like taco night, movie night and coffee lovers, as well as a game basket.
The last glow run drew 181 runners. The first glow run was held in 2021.
“It’s always a really pos -
itive response from the attendees,” Elliker said. “It was just missing a host. Now that we’re able to bring it back and have the proceeds go to another good cause, we hope people come back out.”
The event is also sponsored by the Bank of Bird-in-Hand, Honeybrook Golf Club, Blue Marsh Insurance, Doug Metcalfe, The Golf Zone Family Fun Center and the Wright Agency.
Event organizers are also still searching for sponsors. There are different sponsorship levels, with perks including a table at the event, logo placement on tees, and signage displayed alongside the course on the night of the event.

Chester County 4-H Fair Posted
The Chester County 4-H Fair will be held on Saturday, Aug. 1, and from Monday to Saturday, Aug. 3 to 8, at the Romano 4-H Center, 1841 Horseshoe Pike, Honey Brook.
County youths will display the projects they have prepared throughout the year. Projects may include arts and crafts, sewing, plant science, engineering, robotics, photography, citizenship and leadership, foods and nutrition, and wildlife. The tabletop exhibits will open in the evening on Aug. 3 and remain on display through Aug. 8 at noon.
During numerous animal shows, youths will demonstrate their skill in the handling and care of farm animals, including breeding sheep and market lambs, swine, beef, market goats, dairy goats, dairy cattle, and horses. A livestock sale of beef, sheep, goats, and swine will be held on Wednesday, Aug. 5, at 6 p.m. The fair will wrap
up with the horse show on Aug. 8.
Members of the public are welcome to attend the 4-H Fair. Free guided tours will be available on Tuesday, Aug. 4, and advance registration is requested by contacting the Chester County 4-H office at 610696-3500 or ChesterExt@ psu.edu.
4-H is a national youth development program for children ages 8 to 18 years of age. Clubs meet at local homes, schools, churches, or community centers and are guided by experienced adult volunteers using educational projects designed especially for 4-H clubs. 4-H stands for head, heart, hands, and health. Nolan Rucci’s Facing Challenges
He Dreamt Of

Nolan Rucci is a very goal-oriented young man. He sets goals, plans, executes and follows through on the process before he achieves them.
Right now, Rucci is focused on one very difficult but attainable goal - becoming a professional football player.
“Focusing on that one thing is important,” said Rucci. “Getting better at football is another goal. As a rookie, it’s almost like being a freshman in college; you’re the low man on the totem pole. I’ve been enjoying the process of getting better. Eventually, that leads to success on the field and ultimately making the team.
“You might show up one day and your locker is cleaned out,” continued Rucci. “That’s the NFL. You’ve got to give 100% every day, whether that’s on the field or in the film room. I’m trying to get better at the things I need to get better at.”
Rucci, a 2021 graduate of Warwick High School and a 2025 graduate of Penn State, is an undrafted free agent who is attempting to make the Indianapolis Colts’ roster as an offensive lineman (OL). Since May, Rucci has been put through all the paces at the Colts’ off-season workouts, including rookie camp, organized team activities and mini camp, as well as the upcoming preseason training camp from the end of July to early September.
Indianapolis will open its 2026 season on Sunday, Sept. 13, at home against the Baltimore Ravens.
“I’m very thankful to end up here in Indy,” said Rucci. “It’s a great atmosphere and a great place to learn to compete at the next level. The vets and coaches have been great resources. At the end of the day, you’re playing football, but the stakes are higher. It’s the same game I’ve been playing since high school, but it’s the big show.”
Currently, the Colts have 15 offensive linemen in camp, and they plan to keep anywhere from 10 to 12 OLs to populate their 53-man opening day roster and their practice squad. Rucci’s odds of making the team may simply be a matter of perception.
“That’s definitely a way to look at it,” said Rucci.
“There’s been competition in the room, but the vets have been great. I’m very thankful for the guys in the room. They’ve been very helpful.”
Following a successful career at Penn State, Rucci figured to have an outside chance of being selected in April’s NFL draft. While that did not happen, he did learn of Indianapolis’ interest in him during the staging of the draft.
“It was definitely somewhat disappointing,” said Rucci. “I knew it could be a day two or day three thing. After the fourth round, I got a call from my agent, and he said, ‘The Colts want to sign you after the draft.’ It took a little bit off my shoulders. I was very excited to get the call.”
After transferring from Wisconsin following his sophomore season, Rucci was part of the Nittany Lions’ offensive line rotation as a tackle during his junior and senior campaigns. He earned All-Big Ten honorable mention honors after his senior year.
In December, Rucci graduated from Penn State with a degree in geography. Overall, it was an experience - both on and off the field - which has prepared him well for the current challenge he is facing.
“Obviously, it was not a straightforward journey for me,” said Rucci. “Going to Penn State was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my career. It helped me be the player I am today. I probably wouldn’t be here without it.
“Growing up in Lititz, the NFL felt like a crazy, far-off thing,” added Rucci. “Then you’re playing in college and you realize what an awesome opportunity it is, so you try to take advantage of every single day. My dad (Todd) and brother (Hayden) have
been great resources. Football to me is a path to greater things. I’m super thankful.”
Despite the fact that he does have options, Rucci has yet to formulate a Plan B.
“I’m just trying to keep my feet on the ground,” said Rucci. “Like, ‘What’s the plan for the next 24 hours?’ Making the team is a goal, and so is making sure I’m getting my body right for the next practice.
“I didn’t end up here because I’m crazy talented,” concluded Rucci. “I think a lot of it is putting your head down, grinding and working hard every day. It’s not like an impossible process to get here. It was a team effort to get where I’m at.”

The Pennsylvania Department of Military and Veterans Affairs (DMVA) is available to provide assistance to veterans who have lost their DD Form 214 (DD-214), DD Form 215 (DD-215) or other military documents. The DD-214 is a Department of Defense document issued upon a service member’s retirement, separation, or discharge from active duty in the U.S. Armed Forces. It contains information needed to verify military service for benefits, retirement, employment, and membership in veterans’ organizations. Without this document, there could be significant delays when a veteran seeks benefits earned through his or her military service. The DD-215 is used to correct
errors or make additions to a DD-214.
The easiest way to manage military documents and avoid confusion in searching for them is to make sure they are safely filed immediately upon leaving the military.
