CAR WASH

Boy Scout Troop 140 will hold a car wash on Saturday, July 13, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Sonic Drive-In, located at 850 Crossings Blvd., Elverson. Scouts will wash cars for a donation to the troop. Weaverland Anabaptist Church, 210 Weaverland Valley Road, East Earl, will host a community meal on Wednesday, July 10. A hot, nutritious meal will be served in the fellowship hall from 5:30 to 6 p.m. The meal is open to everyone interested in friendly fellowship with others. Registration is not required. Annual Event To Feature A Display Of Vehicles And More By Francine Fulton

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, located at 1035 Old River Road, Birdsboro, in the village of Gibraltar, will present its 10th annual car show, rain or shine, on Saturday, July 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The show, which will feature a display of all makes, models and years of cars and trucks, will benefit the church, as well as Helping Harvest (formerly the Greater Berks Food Bank). Vehicle owners will be asked to pay a registration fee upon arrival. Spectators will be admitted free of charge. Between 150 and 200 vehicles are expected to be on display at the event. Those who bring a nonperishable food donation to the car show will receive a free ticket for a drawing to win a CD and record player combo. Additional tickets will be available for purchase. OUTDOOR SERVICE

39 Horning Road, Mohnton, will be the site of an outdoor historical and inspirational service on Sunday, July 21, at 6:30 p.m. Lloyd Weiler of Manheim will speak on “The Life of Moses and Lavina Horning,” focused on a Weaverland Mennonite Conference leader (1830-1906) and his wife. The Friends of Hopewell Furnace will present “World War I: Then and Now” on Sunday, July 14, at 2 p.m. at the Hopewell Furnace conference center, 2 Mark Bird Lane, Elverson. The guest speaker will be military historian Charles Miller. The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.

Long before Cavod’s musical theater camps begin, the students who are participating are cast in a show, receive the script, take part in a readthrough, and begin to learn their lines. “On the first day of camp, (students) come with the dialogue memorized, and then we choreograph and polish,” said Cordell Huyard, who oversees the camps for Cavod and is directing Disney’s “High School Musical Jr.,” which will be performed by students taking part in the camp being held from Monday, July 15, through Friday, July 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day at Cavod in New Holland. The camp will culminate with the show being presented in the Cavod

Campers who make up the cast of the Cavod musical theater camp’s production of “High School Musical Jr.” met for a read-through before camp began. After meeting in a private home, at a firehouse and mostly recently at King’s Highway Elementary School, Strong Faith Family Church now has a permanent home at 211 W. Stewart Huston Drive, Coatesville. The church is housed in an office space that is located in the Sikorsky Helicopter complex.
