Action-Impact Sets Easter Egg Hunt, Open House By Francine Fulton

Action-Impact, a nonprofit Christian youth organization located at 80 Vickery Lane, Elverson, will present a belated Easter egg hunt on Saturday, June 27, at 10 a.m. Children in kindergarten through fifth grade will be invited to search the property for plastic colored eggs, which will be filled with candy. There will also be an opportunity to win prizes. According to Ron Pershall, who leads the all-volunteer Action-Impact staff, the popular annual egg hunt had to be rescheduled because of the coronavirus pandemic. Since the eggs and prizes were ready for the event, organizers decided to hold the hunt a bit later this year. “There will be approximately 5,000 eggs hidden in the fields and woods,” Pershall said, noting that children should bring their own baskets or containers for the eggs.

There will also be an egg hunt for parents. Select eggs will contain prizes, including gift cards for two lunches and a dinner at Olive Garden. The Easter egg hunt will be held rain or shine. In the event of inclement weather, the hunt will be held indoors. Also on June 27, Action-Impact will hold an open house of the site’s new Junior Action clubhouse for youths in third through fifth grades. “The new building is for them,” Pershall said. “The things inside (include) an ark at one end and swinging ropes and ladders they can climb on.” Action-Impact offers weekly meetings for youths year-round. Meetings are held on Friday nights during the school year and on Thursday nights during the summer. In addition to the Junior Action group, Action-Impact offers a Senior High group for students in grades nine to 12 and a Junior High group for students in grades six to eight. See Action-Impact pg 2

Curbside pickup for all orders will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. at Historic Joanna Furnace Iron Works, 1250 Furnace Road, Geigertown. The dinner will include one-half of a barbecued chicken prepared by fire company members, along with side dishes, including baked beans, seasonal vegetables, fresh fruit and red beet eggs, prepared by HCVHA volunteers. Ticketholders will also receive bottled water, as well as a napkin and plastic utensils. See HCVHA pg 5

Village Library Offers Curbside Service, Never Forgotten - A Tradition Carries On Summer Reading Program By Ann Mead Ash

Staff members at the Village Library of Morgantown, 207 N. Walnut St., Morgantown, have been busy preparing for limited curbside pickup, which will be offered beginning on Wednesday, June 24. Patrons will be able to pick up books at the library on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays by appointment only. To request books and make an appointment to pick them up, patrons may utilize an online signup sheet. To access the sheet, readers should visit www.signupgenius.com and enter the email address of library director Maria Long, smo library@gmail.com. Those without access to a computer can reserve materials by calling the library at 610-286-1022. Patrons will then be given a time to pick up their books, which will be bagged and labeled and placed in the library’s vestibule. Appointments for pickup will be made in 15-minute increments. “Everyone that comes to the library to pick up

items must wear a mask,” said Long, noting that those who are unable to wear a mask because of health issues should have a friend or family member pick up their items. Returning books will follow the same process; patrons should bring books back to the table in the vestibule when picking up new book selections. No books should be placed in the library’s book drop, which remains closed. Long noted that patrons can only request books from their home library. “If you see a book in Birdsboro, you can’t put a hold on it (through the Village Library),” she said. “Interlibrary loans are furloughed at this time.” In addition, the library has a backlog of books that were put on hold before the library’s closed in March. “If you had holds, we will take care of them. We want to clear those shelves off,” Long said. “We will be contacting the people who had the holds and go down the line by order of holds.” In addition, the library’s virtual Summer Reading Program was scheduled to begin on June 22. Since May 20, 1922, New Holland-area veterans have held a pilgrimage on Memorial Day. Each year, a delegation of veterans visits area cemeteries and performs a ceremony. The grave of the most recently buried veteran in the cemetery is a focal point, and the veteran’s family is often present to take part. The first year the pilgrimage was held, only the two cemeteries in New Holland - Trinity Lutheran and St. Stephen - were on the schedule. In recent years, 13 cemeteries were on the list.
