On April 29, Honey Brook Fire Company was dispatched to rescue a young German shepherd that was stuck at the bottom of a concrete pipe at a local greenhouse. Crew members were able to rescue the dog, which had been standing in about a foot and a half of water all night. Although she was scared and cold and very thin, the dog appeared to be uninjured and was turned over to the Brandywine Valley SPCA. It was through the SPCA that the dog found her new home with Hope Goyette of Gilbertsville. Goyette adopted the dog, which she named Addy, on May 3 after seeing her photo on the SPCA Facebook page. Goyette and Addy returned to the fire company on Memorial Day to thank the rescue workers for their time and effort in saving the dog’s life. “I saw her on (the Facebook page) and
read about what had happened, and as soon as I saw her face, I fell in love with her,” said Goyette, who was accompanied to the firehouse by her daughter, Grace. “When I saw (Addy’s) face and what she went through, my heart went out to her. I had to get her and bring her home. Something spoke to me.” Following the Memorial Day parade in Honey Brook, the firefighters returned to the firehouse to find Addy and her new family waiting for them. “She looks a lot better than when we first saw her,” commented past fire chief Allen Beiler. “I was one of the first people who saw her,” added Lt. Ike Fischer. “I was glad when I read that she found a new owner.” Beiler explained that rescuing the dog was different than the firefighters’ typical rescue call, but every effort was made to ensure the dog’s safety. “Our first plan of action was to put a long See Rescued Dog pg 6

Her birthday was in October 2018, but she redeemed the certificate on May 25. Forrest Schmeck was the pilot during the flight and sat behind Petersheim in
