third-grade class at Daniel Boone Area Intermediate Center, nicknamed the Kindness Squad. “(Volunteers) cleaned up trash, swept sidewalks, mulched and planted flowers in all four of our parks,” said Parks and Recreation board member Christen Thompson. The parks are Rustic Park, Main Bird Park, Vest Pocket Park and Lincoln Park. Congregation members from St. Mark’s Evangelical Lutheran Church provided lunch to all the volunteers. Volunteers cleaned out St. Mark’s community garden beds and planted vegetables. In Rustic Park, Beautify Birdsboro! volunteers picked up trash along the trails and the banks of Hay Creek. Other volunteers mulched and then planted flowers around the signs of the Birdsboro Industrial Park, St. Mark’s and the Birdsboro Community Memorial Center. Other worksites included the Boone Area Library, Texas Field and borough hall. “We also had volunteers do graffiti abatement and painted a few areas that needed a touch-up,” said Thompson.
