Honey Brook Community Library, 687 Compass Road, Honey Brook, will hold a spring tea fundraiser on Sunday, May 19, at 1:30 p.m. Tea and finger foods will be served, and there will be a chance to win gift baskets. Attendees are asked to wear elegantly embellished hats, and there will be a prize for the best hat. Tickets can be purchased at the library desk for a set cost, and all proceeds will benefit the library. The event is for people of all ages. Homeschoolers To Stage “Gladys In Wonderland” By Francine Fulton

“It’s a really quick and funny play,” said director Geoff Burkholder when describing “Gladys in Wonderland,” which will be presented on Mother’s Day weekend by the Community Homeschool Players. “Gladys in Wonderland” will be staged at Conestoga Mennonite Church, 2779 Main St. (Route 23), Morgantown, on Friday, May 10, at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, May 11, at 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door. A portion of the admission fees will be presented as a donation to the Twin Valley Fire Company. “Gladys in Wonderland” tells the story of 87-year-old Gladys, who spends her days eating doughnuts and scanning the obituary page. She gets a visit by the Angel of Death, who is ready to take her away. However, since the feisty

will present a visual program in slides and memorabilia from World War II titled “The White Caps of Pearl Harbor” at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday, May 5. Lucky Dawg Animal Rescue Inc., which has found homes for more than 100 dogs and close to 60 cats since its formation in January 2018, is currently seeking a home for a special needs dog named Albert, who uses a doggie wheelchair. Albert is currently being fostered by organization founder Mary Bauer, with help from volunteers. “He has such a zest for life. He plays and runs around in his wheelchair with our other dogs like he is part of the pack,” Bauer said. “He is adorable.” According to Albert’s biography, he was found in December 2018 on the doorstep of a veterinarian’s office in Georgia with no note or explanation. LAPS Plans Open House, Notes 30th Anniversary By Francine Fulton

The Large Animal Protection Society (LAPS) will hold an open house to celebrate 30 years of service to the community on Saturday, May 4. The event, which will also include a tack sale, will be held at its facility, 29 Keller Road, Cochranville, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. According to Pat Geiger, LAPS president, this is the first time that the all-volunteer rescue group has held an open house. “ We want to let the community know about what Stella, the dog of a Large Animal Protection we do,” she stated. He also gives her a taste of what life might be like in a nursing home. “It’s a spoof of ‘Alice in Wonderland.’ Like Alice, Gladys meets a bunch of different people,” said Hayley Hopkins, who plays Gladys. “It’s also a mother-daughter play, but they never interact. Gladys is getting ready to die and Doris, her daughter, is getting ready to lose her mom.” Despite the dark subject matter, Burkholder said the play is funny and will cause audiences to consider their own purpose in life. “A lot of the jokes are smart. You have to think about them a little bit,” he said. The play is based on the book written by Rosemary Frisino Toohey. It was first produced in 1999 as part of the Baltimore Playwrights Festival.
